  • I'll give you my opinion on IF there should be a Last Chance Qualifier for the CrossFit Games.
    There was a last chance qualifier in 2021 and 2022.

    When does it stop though? The best athletes qualified at the Semi's. That is what the Semi's is all about.The most well known or popular athletes may have not qualified but it isn't a popularity contest.

      @Amanda_Hari  2 месяца назад

      For the most part, the most well known definitely did. But not necessarily the ones that will be most successful at the games.

      Just as in every sport with divisional type play offs, athletes from one area that didn't make it because of limit restrictions, may be better than the athletes that made it from another area. The wildcard would allow best athletes into the games.

    We just need more big comps out there; more opportunities for athletes to earn money, earn fans and gain big stage experience. What do we have currently with good coverage: Rogue, WDZ and open...???

    • @Amanda_Hari

      I agree that we don’t have enough big comps!

    I agree with you 100%. I heard that other podcast and to think anyone would risk not trying during the semi finals to bet on a last chance qualifier is not a professional. And as you said, the Jack Farlow, who were probably out of the mix would try that much harder to get the placing necessary for that last chance qualifier.

    Supercross has a LCQ. It’s accepted and great. CrossFit should bring it back. Finish 1 spot out and have one more shot after semifinals. 🎉🎉🎉🎉

    I like the idea of having them right before the games, but it’s a scenario that should keep the cut after the first two days of the Games

    • @Amanda_Hari
      @Amanda_Hari  2 месяца назад

      That would be interesting! They could also just give out 2 less spots at semis, that way have the Last Chance Qualifier there would still only be 40 athletes.

    Bring it back, make it in person, and don’t release the work outs ahead of time. It’s gotta be harder than the semis to disincentivize people from thinking “oh I can just do the last chance qualifier and make it easy”

    • @Amanda_Hari
      @Amanda_Hari  2 месяца назад

      It would probably be hard to do it in person-but I would love it if they could!

    How about a competition to make it to The CF Games Demo Team?
    It seems like non-qualifiers to the Games always want to make it to that squad. Make ‘em compete for it.

  • @dp8897

    They should definitely bring it back. Instead of having months off from semifinals to the games there will be something else to get the community excited about. CrossFit needs more excitement.

    The top 3 or 4 of those who didn't make it from every region come together the weekend before the games for a Wild Card game would be fair and interesting.

      @@Amanda_Hari Another solution to assure only the best athletes make the games, is to use a universal leader board from all regions Put every semifinals score on the board and take only the top scores regardless of where they come from.

    How many last chances would you need then? One? Two? Five? Semies is the divider, end of story, no more chances folks.

  • @Type1Lifting

    I don’t think they need to do that. They just need to add more spots for the areas that produce the better athletes. For example the west could have added one more spot and remove the spot in the Africa region.

  • @_hannbee
    @_hannbee 2 месяца назад

    I don't think that the Death By comments meant so much that athletes wouldn't TRY, just it dilutes the STORY that you can tell probably on broadcast and during the event. When you lower the stakes, it's kinda reduces the importance of doing well.

    • @Amanda_Hari
      @Amanda_Hari  2 месяца назад +1

      I see what you’re saying, although I would argue that Kristin Eramo qualifying through the last chance qualifier after narrowly missing out at Granite Games then finishing top 10 at the games was an awesome story.

      @@Amanda_Hari absolutely, but do we expect that to be the common case, or the outlier scenario... 🤔

    • @Amanda_Hari
      @Amanda_Hari  2 месяца назад

      @@_hannbeein 2022, Jonne Koski and Arielle Loewen qualified through the LCQ. They finished 15th and 11th, respectively. So we’ve had quite a few LCQ athletes who were very successful at the games.

    • @_hannbee
      @_hannbee 2 месяца назад

      @@Amanda_Hari noted but aren't those the only years the LCQ was around? Small sample I guess.... And perhaps further refinement of the allocations for semis would still negate the need. I mean there's no perfect system to be sure, but at least we care enough to talk about it right!

    Although I was pleased that Kristi made it a few years ago, I'm generally opposed to last chance. Over all, this was the best semifinals I've watched, the most consistent tests across the different regions.

    • @Amanda_Hari

      That, or they can just give our two less spots at semis so there will still only be 40 athletes.

      @ChicoProductions2012 2 месяца назад

      @@Amanda_Hari Yes. Invite the top two men and women "runners-up" in each semis to compete for two spots -- 12 for two. The only thing is the extra traveling for those in other countries because it should be in-person. Do a four-event competition in mid-June or ... how about starting the CF Games two days early for last chance qualifier. The winners would stay in Texas and begin individual competition on Thursday.

    I kinda liked the “play in game” right before the games. Downside is it would probably be only North Americans as no one would want to pay all that $ to come just for a chance
