  • OS Max 40 SF Ringed that I bought from RC Groups in for a rebuild. I tried dubbing over the video but it ran at a slower speed since my computer was getting bogged down. So I cut in some music.

    I love these older engines. I just got one on e bay and it should be here soon. I decieded to watch some rebuild videos because I know it will need some upkeep. Great video

    A ultrasonic cleaner and LA's Totally Awesome All Purpose Cleaner is your friend here. I would not put all those dirty parts back together without cleaning them all spotless inside and out first.

    The aftermarket needs to step up and start producing repop parts for these engines since O.S. has no interest in doing so after they are discontinued. Inspiring entrepreneurs are you listening to this?! You could have a thriving business and make a lot of money. Most of us would rather fix our old vintage engines than throw them away and keep buying new ones. New O.S. engines are $189+ these days as well. That's a lot of money to spend every time some little thing goes wrong or wears out.

      Sure...I'll start a company. I'll need about 250K liquid. Are you ready to invest?

    Would have been nice for us newbies if when inserting the barrel to line up the notch in the barrel to the dot marked on the bore ?? or that the exhaust port looks different to the other ports and to line it up with the exhaust (well DER but if you dont know you dont know !!!) and as i found out the engine will run quite fine, but not the way it should, 1 vid a guy said to line the barrel up with the cast mark in the front of the motor and (was OS Nitro motor) this wasn't correct.
    In your vid there was an image of the exhaust port and that is was what i used to fix where i had gone wrong, would have been nice in your vid if when inserting the sleeve to have slowed it down loose the music and just give a quick explanation of this, but all in all your vid helped and thankyou :)

    Did you buy a rebuild kit and from where if so? And what oil are you using?

    • @michaelsmutnick
      @michaelsmutnick  3 года назад

      3 in 1 oil. I had to buy all parts separately. search ebay for parts for your engine. boca bearings for bearings. All stock parts for new OS engines are available but if you were to buy bearings, gaskets, and piston ring new you could probably buy a brand new old stock engine for a little more.

      O.S. MAX parts are getting harder and harder to find as well as a lot more expensive. If you find NOS or NIB vintage engines they cost even more. From what I see on Ebay and elsewhere double what they originally sold for. Remember when you could buy new O.S. MAX FPs or LAs at the hobby shop for $50 - $65. Well not anymore that same engine is $125+ now.

      Nice O.S. MAX FXs are easily $100+ these days let alone a NIB NOS brand new one.

    How do I remove that piece. Without the pulley remover tool does anyone know or could help me out

    Hello Michael, I have an OS H60 F GP engine that I am trying to get the piston out of. I have removed the sleeve, but the connecting rod doesn't seem to want to lift enough off of the crank shaft for me to remove the connecting rod. Is it ever necessary to use force to pull the connecting rod end off of the pin on the crankshaft? I would upload a photo, but I don't know if that's possible here.

    I was given a 40 SR. Is it as good as this SF?

    • @michaelsmutnick
      @michaelsmutnick  11 месяцев назад

      The SR is the prev generation. it is also very popular. if you have it, it is worth putting on a plane and flying it!

      ah you mean video, sorry, i did this on other side of basement away from camera. Heat with heat gun from harbor frieght, (wear heavy leather gloves) then slam down on rear on the edge of a block of wood (so it hits square) and bearing will fall out (hopefully)@@ThyerHazard
