  • Ann Druyan is FFRF's 2021 Emperor Has No Clothes Awardee. Ann is a Peabody and Emmy Award-winning writer, producer and director specializing in the communication of science. She was the creative director of NASA’s Voyager Interstellar Message Project and program director of the first solar sail deep space mission, launched on a Russian ICBM in 2005. She wrote with her late husband, Carl Sagan, the original 1980s Emmy Award- and Peabody Award-winning TV series “COSMOS: A Personal Voyage,” the most watched PBS series in global television history. Ann spoke with her daughter Sasha Sagan at FFRF's National Convention.
Sasha Sagan is author of the new book, "For Small Creatures Such as We: Rituals for Finding Meaning in Our Unlikely World." She is a graduate of NYU, and has worked as a television producer, filmmaker, writer and speaker. She regularly speaks on ways science can inform our celebrations and how we mark the passage of time, inspired in part by the work of her parents, Carl Sagan and Ann Druyan.

Carl brought humanity and science together beautifully, and was a real influence on my thinking. I am so glad he had his beautiful wife and daughter to carry on for him. I look forward to hearing more from them.

This is such a refreshing intellectual and humanitarian way of looking at the contemporary world that I cannot help but freak out over what is actually going on out there. Stupidity, ignorance, greed and wishful, magical thinking seems to predominate. The "better angels" of human nature are being smothered by our lesser.

This is one of the best videos I've seen on atheism, humanism, and secular spirituality all at once. Thank FFRF, Ann Druyan, Sasha Sagan and of course the equally great Carl Sagan. I've been looking for a way to lead my life and face the reality that we may not survive our physical death. What more is there to life than love, kindness, courage, intellectual rigour and discipline.. thank you. I wish I could meet you all. "Bless" you all.

The matter of "surviving beyond our physical death" should be studied by science. When scientists and technicians come together to study brain functions, they might probably find one or two surprises. Up to now, religions monopolize the issue of surviving physical death, but what if it would be a science issue? Receive regards.
