Direct-drive beats gear reduction for less noise and reliability.
Brushless beats brushed for less weight (sometimes) and longer run life.
Brushed beats brushless in simplicity and the ability to run straight off a battery or simple mechanical speed control. Brushless needs electronics to run.
For best plane the Arrows is probably the most versatile.
    Just my thoughts. Happy flying!

I'm not sure if you considered the UMX Turbo Timber. It has flaps which your TX can handle. Around $170, that's up there in price for a micro but mine was pretty good as a second plane until I crashed it out of safe mode. I'm in winter here and still trying to fix the hinges. I did pick up a second one on a brief sale last fall but I am stuck now deciding whether to move on to the new plane or not. Thanks for what you are doing here on the channel. I will be using your videos later on.

Hi Gordon and thank you much!
Yes, before I purchased the Arrows Pioneer I also considered the Turbo Timber and the Durafly Micro Tundra.
Both of those look like excellent Planes as well but I thought, everything being equal, the Pioneer had a better Power System.
The Pioneer, at only 113g, floats in so nice and takes off so quickly, I don't think it will require flaps.
I did consider that and was impressed seeing Micros with Flaps.
I think once I extend the Ailerons on the Pioneer it will be Golden.
If my budget would have permitted I would have purchase all (3) of the ones mentioned ;-)

    • @AlfonsdenBroeder
      @AlfonsdenBroeder 9 месяцев назад

I have both, th pioneer is much better. More power, and much more robust. The UMX timber was dead after a not so hard crash, also the electrics, and the pioneer is flying still after two years. My favorite plane by far. One thing, the role rate is very slow

The Fastest Sub-250g Planes I've flown are either DIY or PNF so they don't come with gyros but you can always install one.
The Fastest Sub-250g Planes I've flown are My GFS DIY F22 Micro V2 on 3S and the Eachine Flying Fish on 3S.
I use the Radiolink Byme-D on my GFS DIY F22 Micro V2 and the Radiolink Byme-A on the Eachine Flying Fish.
The next closest on speed and also come with a Gyro is the Radiolink SU27 RTF or PNF.

    Nice Overview
Do you think EDF or Prop driven jets are more fun
Are the bigger or smaller ones like the XK A180 nicer

    • @GroundControlRC
      @GroundControlRC  2 года назад

      Thank you Rudd!
I love the sound of the EDF Jets ;-)
But they lack power and efficiency.
The F16 EDF I converted to a pusher motor and prop has more power and better efficiency so longer flight times.
With these Micro Planes I've found that a minimum wingspan of 24" seems to be the sweet spot and those fly like much larger planes.
That's what I'll be looking for in the future with Micro Planes that I purchase.
The larger the Plane the more stable it is in the air.
      That's my experience.
I do like the planes that have around a 30" wingspan or larger.
      See you in the Air!

      Thanks for the affirmation
Had a hunch that pusher prop was the way to go ..
So does this mean I should only buy one EDF jet for posterity n build the rest of my jets with pusher props
Which one out of the scale looking F-86, Arrows Viper or F-22 should I select as the EDF jet as such or do you have better options ..
Great work on the F-22 Micro n Mini n thanks for letting us have a glimpse of Scott ‘s scale looking pusher prop jets .
You had me pinching myself wondering how your F-22 mini can only weigh 149g .. ha
Previously did a 75 cm Wing Span x 90 cm long SU-27 profile jet with the prop slot pushed all the way up front just behind the canopy so that it can be balanced with a 3S-500 to lower its AUW
Added a 9g servo to control the twin rudder n used a 2206-1500kv with an 8043 prop on it to make it fly real slow n be able to make really tight turns in small spaces with the twin RUD ..
Increased the wing n horizontal stabilizer surface area to reduce the wing loading ..
Also played with another way of adding Rudder to a twin jet by adding a horizontal strip below the exhaust that is hidden from view from the top

@@rudd2962 The Eachine F-16 50mm EDF is my favorite with the Viper a very close 2nd.
They are both very stable, well behaved, and very aerobatic.
I keep trying to find more Airframe ONLY EDF Jets to convert but they either want a small fortune for the Airframe or charge more for the Shipping than the cost of the Airframe.
The F86 and the T33 are terrible.
I'm going to stick with the more modern airframes going forward.
That SU-27 you created sound like a lot of fun and the SU-27 is another really great airframe.

    • @rudd2962
      @rudd2962 2 года назад

      So rightly said !!
With the skill level n exposure you have, am sure you could self - craft a scale looking full fuse body..
There must be some software that can help to lay out an outline that can be folded into shape to give the full fuse look. let me know if you happen to find any ..
Failing that, craft paper can be used to bend n fold things into shape to create the full fuse look before transferring the profile to the foam board for cutting..
There are also several full fuse plans for jets that we can just copy n adapt the dimension of the fuse to get the scaled look too
Another way is just to build profile planes to enjoy the flying experience ..
After the plane is fully tested n the battery position marked, can just wrap the main fuse part with foam to create the scaled look ..
The only thing that is more tedious is if you will like to have a transparent canopy with the pilot figurine inside.
This requires a wooden template of the canopy to be made before melting a clear plastic water bottle over it with a heat gun
The SU 27 is a profile build but I’m sure you can fuse up the fuselage to make it scale looking.
The plane is not with me atm but I’ll be happy to search out some pics if you are keen to build
One thing you can experiment is to try having the prop slot as far forward as possible to reduce the tail weight so that you can balance it with a lighter battery to reduce the All Up Weight (AUW).
The “Light is Might” crowd will always say that a lighter plane flies better ..
This preference to have the motor forward is what will force me to do my own builds as all the prop slot kit planes available have the prop slot way towards the rear, resulting in the plane often having to be balanced with a heavy 3S-2200 batt that drastically increases the overall weight of the plane. This increases the damage when the plane crash too
Thanks for the heads up, there is another version of the Arrows Viper by Banana Hobbies which is really cheap n has a clear canopy with a pilot figurine in it, think I might just end up getting it..
The Arrows BAE Hawk that is painted red looks really nice too, am sure they will fly well with a gyro in it ..
An easy RUD mod can also be done to make them 4 Channel (can enlarge the width of the RUD to make it more effective)
Seeing the kit prices of several EDF jets actually made me feel that the tiny Eachine Warbirds n XK micro planes are really expensive in comparison; quite a premium they are charging for the micro size..
Getting a slightly bigger size Warbird (P-51, F-4U etc) that can be fitted with replaceable electric gear like esc, rx n gyro does make more sense ..
This guy is a master craftsman
Hope you can get inspired by seeing how he build his planes. He shares the plans for all his builds ..

      @@rudd2962 Hi Rudd!
I've thought about using modeling software to build the model and unwrap the texture to get the template for for the foam.
      It should get it close.
      Blender 3D is such software.
I try to design and build planes that look good but are also very easy to build.
The GFS F22 Micro has only 11 parts to the airframe and very simple to build.
The GFS F22 Mini has only 17 parts.
They both fly fantastic but don't have that scale look.
They're something in between a profile and full fuselage.
I really enjoy creating DIY planes I just don't have the time to do it very often.
Hopefully I can set aside time to create a couple more this year.
It seems most people just want something off the shelf and don't care to build even though it's typically much less expensive to build your own.
It's a lot of fun though and I really enjoy it ;-)
I'll have to check out the version of the Viper at BH as it's a fantastic flying EDF.
      See you in the Air!
