Testimony: I am following your method. Started last weekend and SO far starting to have little green shoots. Very baby stages but better than I was able to do in the past!
Just to update you from your last video where i commented. I took your advice and propagated the clippings from where I pruned my Dads thornless Blackberry plant a few days before I watched your last video. And even though the clippings layed out on the ground for a couple days without water and in 60-70 degree weather, I've managed to get them to start shedding new growth. Now take it, it's not as produced as yours are looking, but it IS new growth. Thank You.
ive tried to repdoduce 3 kinds blaclberrys, didnt work best time is when they are dorment just before heat hits 18 c but even with shade n water nothing,is it how tick n quantity they have, the earths mixture ? what kind of earth you use? sand n black húmus with peat moss or just plain earth? thanks for the vid ive noticed they are pretty thick, ever just let then grow out new roots or use the stick on the ground system, putting them slightly underground the tip with slight cut n put v shaped stick, english is not my first language dont know name of the system, but they start creating new roots
Is it too late to take cuttings this year? I'm doing this in Wise county north central Texas. Also do you take your cuttings from the primicane or the floricane? Love the channel. I've started my channel here on all kinds of farming and gardening. Hope I get as popular as your channel someday!
I purchase a blackberry bush from local grower. He mentioned they should not be any wild blackberries (dewberry's I think). We have tons of those around. My garden is close to neighbors pasture and they have a lot also. How far away should I keep the plants? Thanks for all your videos.
I've read that too... but personally, I don't think it's a problem. I have lots of dewberries close to my blackberry patch, but haven't seen a problem.
I just received blackberry plants today in the mail from Norse farms. I'm not home yet but my wife said they are about 6" tall and she thinks bare root based on the packaging. would you plant them now or pot them until fall like the propagated plants in your video? I'm west of tyler,tx
Thanks for the vid. ....could you or anyone tell me: If you just pick the fruit (berries) and through them around in the right season are they lightly to grow?
I doubt it ... I've never heard of that. They spread from the roots, or from the canes if they touch the ground. ruclips.net/video/RxLHLPpn7fk/видео.html
Useful to know - trying to grow some rose cutting from some Valentine's Day flowers, and basically, it's the old waiting game of which ones will die, and which ones will make it.
Blackberry question: I found some orange rust on a couple small wild blackberry plants at the end of the row I'm forming. I know that they will have to be dug up and destroyed. Exactly how contagious is this stuff? Even though caught early and removed, is this a death sentence for this project? I just need to know if I should continue, or whether trying to continue is going to be a fool's errand.
I think I've had a little bit of it, but just ignored it.There is a fungicide for orange rust. Check with your local Ag Extension office for the specifics
Here's hoping the Travelers are just slow. My Freedoms are blooming like crazy and also shooting out new growth everywhere. No new sprouts from the ground, just bushing out.
About to order some Freedoms, was wondering about travelers. I have came here and tried to catch up on the news. Would you know say stick with the freedoms? I saw that the travelers were suppose to be better IF, you wanted to sell them in a market. So my question here is did the travelers do ok, minus gofer attacks. I had watched some of your earlier year propagation where you were cutting tips, in Aug and Sep. I had set up a table and had low success, doing it in those months But I actually got a leaf stem to root figure that out?? So I see here that you are doing this in feb, its now march and having success but say fall would have been better, so what Month do you consider fall. Are you taking the cuttings as the plant goes dormant, and weather cool but not cold in the fall. I am trying to get a play list up on just your videos Going to try and answer my questions but in case I don't find the answers please help. I am about to order 10 ar freedoms, but want to plant about two acres or more once IGET it. I assume I can plant them now in ground, or should I put them in pots in small green house, like one of your older vids on Prime ARK. I am in central Mississippi.
Awesome ..
I’m gonna try it..
Thanks for sharing your videos and keep them coming please.
You bet!
Just getting into the blackberry game. Learning a lot from you. Just got a Ponca. I propagated some last year but this year I want to get serious.
Good for you!
Hi, Would also love to watch you propagate blackberry cuttings in a water 😉
I've tried propagating in water but never had any success.
I always use potting mix

You can try... but I've had very little success in the summer... and I think it's going to get hot soon
Very true. Well when you take your cuttings does it matter which kind of can it's from as long as it's pencil diameter?
Hi! When is the best time to take cuttings? Spring, Fall? Thanks! Yours look great!
I would say now, but it'll probably be fall before the roots are established enough to plant
thanks alot,
was the ideal period to do this when you posted the original video and can they withstand freezing?
I think the best time is in the fall, and let them root all winter.
But, up north it may be different.
How can I tell which is a freedom and which is a traveler?
I can't tell the difference.
They look the same to me...
Darn! Well I gave it a try yesterday. I know it's summer, but this is Washington State. We'll see how rooting 3 cuttings go.
Make sure you mist them many times a day.
If the tops dry out... they'll die.

NOW... and make plans for a drip irrigation system soon. Mulch them too.
From the looks of it, we're going to have summertime pretty quick.
I got home this morning and they are not bare root, they are green plugs. do they still need to go in the ground now
Now... water them in good and mulch. It's going to get hot soon, I think
Looking forward to the next one where you untangle them in the pot. I have done mine just like yours...starting to leaf out now.

What do you use as your potting mix for nursing cuttings?
I use something called 3B from Fafard, but I would think any potting "mix" would to.
Not potting "soil"

What's the white in the bucket?
Probably Pearlite... which is part of the potting mix
can you do this with marionberries?
Sure, I bet you can :)
Sir, you inspired me to do a u-pick blackberry / raspberry / blueberry here in South Jersey./
Good for you !
Glad to help
I hear gopher is good eatin'. ;)
REALLY ?!?!?!?
:)
I can't find your video where you separate the cuttings into their own pots. Can you post a link?
Here's one:

It looks like you're in my garage filming this. LOL!
Broom, 2x4, ratchet, bags, etc.. all laying on the ground around my feet. Respect.

So far, I like Freedoms over Travelers.
Our "fall" should be about the same as in Miss.
October- November-ish
Gophers..... Cue the caddy shack jokes.
"So I've got THAT goin' for me"
(caddy shack line)

Lookin good buddy! I need to take more rootings from mine.
Please document your gopher hunting for us. I've been invaded here and need help!
