    This is just short of a miracle. A media interview with Mick, where the interviewer isn't trying - in vain - to entrap, trick or belittle him. By their constant, negative coverage of the unions, the main stream media is having some impact on public opinion, though. Their efforts to divide the working-class for their corporate masters, can only be defeated by solidarity - not jealousy - with all workers.

Someone should make a list of all the mistakes different governments have made where billions of money has either been wasted or given to their cronies (eg PPE) vs what public sector workers are asking for, then ask Sunak et al, why it's okay for them and not for us.

      Spot on Alan Wood, I'm 54 so not so far behind you and like you I have seen the slow degradation of the working classes. I have been made redundant twice in my working life. The first time when I worked for Asda. The chief executive was non other than Archie Norman the then chairman of the conservatives. He was the major shareholder of the company, as part of our wage package we had a sharesave scheme, which would have given us you would have thought some voting rights in how the company was run. Norman and his cronies the richest share holders sold the company out from under the workers to Walmart an American supermarket chain, making them even richer. About a month after getting my pittance of a redundancy after 15 yrs I received a letter from a debt collection agency threatening to take me to court saying that they had paid me twice. Just goes to show the conservatives are Whores, they not only fucked me but now they are fucking the whole country. Ps sorry for the language.

      @@aronbrewer7466 Overheard today two blokes talking about houses built in the 1970 having bigger rooms and more space generally, this is so true, the UK was booming in the late 1960s and through to the early 1980s until the Tories, Thatcher, got into power and started destroying everything & tanked the economy. Houses built from then were smaller and became far more expensive. An interesting way to view the country is to look at housing.
      Thatcher by the way was the person who, together with Reagan in America, deregulated the banks allowing them to lend more and borrow from each other. 20 years later, the 2008 sub-prime mortgage crash happened because of this. It seems to me that Conservative governments do the most damage to the UK, whilst Labour governments spend all their time repairing it. Over the last 50 years, the Conservatives have been in power for over 35 of them, and it shows.

    He's right about the agency NHS staff costs being much higher than the costs of permanent staff. That's why it's more than feasible to pay a 19% award. When agency staff are paid twice the wages.

    • @midjehunt7424
      @midjehunt7424 2 года назад +9

      The whole agency staff thing is rather hard to grasp unless one gets to the basics on it.
      On the NHS issue, (and we need to be specific , I am only talking about the NHS) we need to know why the extra staff need to be recruited, for how long, and where
      If a ward needs one nurse for one day then an agency may be a good option, even though the agency may typically take over 15% in commission
      If the wing occasionally requires on average, two nurses a day, and then the hospital requires say, 10 per day, but only all for one day, , it would make sense perhaps to have one senior nurse to float but employed by the hospital..
      Multiply that by the hospitals in the district on the general requirements and it makes sense to dump the agency who are effectively like the leach that charge so much commission to sell a house..
      What do we all not like? Leeches and grinches..
      Mismanagement in the system is the main cause of waste I think.
      I am aware of the kick backs some get, or may be offered, even just the odd bottle of wine.
      Once we sort the mismanagement we can sort the pay to staff.
      19% ? I do sort of think they need a good wage seeing as they year on year get stomped on.

    Mick is a legend. The govts attitude to these negotiations is nothing short of a disgrace. Mick and Eddie Dempsey have frequently been negotiating with rail companies, organising meetings with the express intentions of coming to an amicable agreement, yet the Govt at the last minute then refuse to meet or negotiate. Often times Mick and Eddie are travelling to prearranged meetings when they have received a call from the train company they were meant to be meeting, saying the Govt have ordered them not to negotiate. This is just disgusting juvenile behaviour by a desperate govt with nothing left in the tank. Let's get everyone behind the strikes, stop whining and moaning about the disruption to your daily life because you are just playing to the govts narrative. Look at the amount of different sectors who are joining these strikes on a daily basis. It started with the RMT then the CWU now the nurses closely followed by the ambulance service. The fire brigades union are balloting their members, now border force staff are joining the strikes, the armed forces can't be expected to cover everything. I predict there is going to be a general strike across the country within the next 2-3 months so people need to start making preparations. Look to the govt if you want to apportion blame. The nurses union openly said they would suspend strike action if the govt would just come to the table, the govt outright refused so there you go.

The agency staff filling that position usually only gets a pound or two more than the regular staff but get none of the responsibility.
