Interesting. But what happens if you have pulled the blinds all the way up and then you forget to shut off the timer for the tilt. When the timer goes off, will does the motor have a cut-off mechanism, or will it just try to keep cranking the blinds open and probably burn itself out?

A Lot easier than I thought it would be. How long does the unit stayed charged before you need to charge it again? Great job!
They say about 9 months depending on usage. You could also plug directly into the wall with the USB cable, or get the solar panel charger.

Just to clarify this can only tilt and close the blinds, right? If so can you still lift the blinds up and down? Still a great design and very intuitive.
correct, you can only tilt them with the motor. you can still lift the blinds up and down manually
My problem is I have 4X 6 by 6 windows (2 of which are 10 feet above the floor. It would be so much better for me if there were a raise and lower component to these as well. Still worth considering all the same. Thanks

This was my first time I saw the video from HomeAutomationX and really liked the concept, applying some technical skills with available technology for real world solutions. I was really hooked on this episode. However, after watching other episodes, I was less than satisfied because it was mostly reviews. Only a few episode like the Toyota washer pump and the thermostat nest episode got back my attention. Hope you can do similar, or create another channel for this kind of concept. And I love this girl, Chrissy was it?

No. Once the motor is installed there is no way to turn it by hand.

It can't do that. it can only open and close them by turning the tilt rod.

What is a hub and y would one need it for?
This unit is zwave not WiFi, so you need a hub to control it like SmartThings, or the Echo Plus. However i don't believe this company is selling them anymore. I haven't seen them

Its a nice video - but without the function or raising or lowering your blinds it feels pretty limited.
HomeAutomationX i want the hardware but it’s not on the site.
Also, add some sound dampening foam around the motor to eliminate that awful motor sound.

You need a Hub but it doesn't have to be Samsung.

Does this only work with 2" blinds? Or will one be available for 1" blinds also?
officially 2" and 2.5" slat blinds. However my living room blinds are 1 3/4" and I cut a few inches off the side of the head rail to make it fit. I didn't show this in the video as the bedroom blinds are 2" and didn't need cutting and they worked great. I was planning on doing a follow up video mentioning I got it working on 1 3/4" blinds too. But to answer your question 2" and 2.5" blinds officially.

have you compared these to mysmartblinds?
mysmartblinds use Bluetooth - so they don't work with the smartthings hub, and they don't work with Google Home or Alexa. They may implement z-wave in the future, so it might or might not someday be compatible with a smarthub. However, you can actually buy mysmartblinds, so they've got that going for them.

That would require a 2nd motor. Probably a bigger one as some blinds are heavy to pull up.

How long does the battery last please?
They say it last up to 9 months. However you can plug them in with the 9 foot USB cable. or also order the solar panel charger to attach to the window.

Anyone see the price on these units yet? I was planning on getting the Solmni automatic blinds from Home Depot online, but if this is a lot cheaper..... then I may change my mind. It's hard reaching windows that are freaking 20 feet above you.

The motor that operate the blinds is very loud.

I don't believe this kit works on cellular shades, especially shades that can operate from either the top or bottom.

From the manufacturer....Yes it has been tested and it pairs and works with Wink. Right now it only supports open/close and not the ability to tilt to any angle between 0-99. We plan to work with Wink as well as other zwave controller manufactures to have all features fully supported
