Loved those races with Mazda taking it to Porsche, I've had 911's and old Mazda rotary's over the years but man that last shape RX7 is such a beautiful car.
Great to see you guys again, nice to see Mark enjoying this car years after racing it. Revisiting old cars doesn’t always have a positive result. A nice way to start the morning, now I want to go for a drive instead of working around the yard.😂
I was at Mazda training school in 93. The race shop with these cars was next door. They even used a bunch of us apprentices in their pit crew at Bathurst.
Great video. Great story. Great history. I own the last FD RX-7 sold by Mazda in Australia in Montego Blue and the RX-8 GT press car (BFY•28K) featured in Which Car in Aurora Blue.
Hey me too. 2005 rx8. Fresh rebuild, bridgeport, flywheel, intake, extractors, 3 inch exhaust, coilovers, sticky tyres. Absolute blast to drive. Thinking about turbo or sc just because hp numbers and straightline, but in curves or track it doesnt appear to need it.
@noname-sd5dt to turbo it won't yield a whole much for the value imo but if that's the road you want to travel do it. They do require a little more gumption.
I always had a soft spot for the last of the RX7s. Was looking at one just before buying my 928GT - the 928 won out just because the RX7 was just a bit too small. I had a series III RX7 the 80s and it actually felt a little bigger inside. Amazing to get the actual race car back on the road, looks like a fun toy but earplugs are probably a good idea - or noise cancelling headsets!
@@njs461 I'm a big fan of the FC interior. You got a bit of it back with the 8, but it's weirdly cramped in a different way. I would sacrifice quite a bit of weight to get the FC interior into an FD, but the suspension of the FD it just light years ahead of the FC. They went a bit overboard with the weight saving, but many that suspension and how it feels is what makes me really struggle to find a real replacement. FC also seemed substantially more reliable than the REW, and I never care much for the complicated twin turbo setup or working on it. FC interior seems robust by comparison at least relative to 93s. Not sure about 94+.
@@njs461 also saw people actually get 100 plus thousand miles out of those or is all the single turbo FDs would be lucky to get 30 to 45k. Granted some of that was probably due to more power but for some reason that FC motor just seemed a lot more robust and if it was not turbo that thing would run on like four good seals while blowing blue flames constantly out of the exhaust system.
93-model RX-7 SP....? With the video showing a 93-model BP RX-7. This gets confusing..... May want to correct the heading as most enthusiasts know the RX-7 SP was a 1995 release

Thanks for your comment. Yes I guess it doesn’t always work out going back in time with cars, I’m glad it did on this occasion.

Love the car and your work

Very cool, do you still have the car ?
Enjoyable video, always adored these. Currently own an 05 RX8. With some coilovers and good tires that car drives like its on rails.

I driven all three and the FD is the smallest inside! My FC felt roomy and the FB never felt too tight.

@@jinxtacy agreed! The single turbo on the FC is so simple compared to the twins on the FD with the awful solenoid vacuum nest

Great video guys...as always! Where were you driving? It looked like a great piece of road!
Thanks, yes great bit of road just outside Sydney
The Putty Rd out to the Hunter Valley, north west of Sydney. Lovely place to cruise.
Dream car
glad I kept my cassette player. 😛
