I lost my first set of Sisterlocks to chemotherapy! I paid $1,200 for the installation. After watching this I think I will install my second set MYSELF!! You’re a genius!! Thanks for sharing!!
Whew Chile! 😂I thought I was precise with my installation but honey, you have taken precision to a whole other level! Your final results are amazing. But all that math makes my head hurt 🤣 You certainly rocked that explanation ✊
May I just state that I absolutely love and respect the level of precise and mathematical analysis that you put into designing your grid! I think you're an excellent teacher. THANK YOU for making it look so cool! :)
It really helps if you pull out your calculator and do the math with her, students! I rewound, pulled up calc app, and now I understand so much better 😘😁
I didn't even bother with all the math. My hair is fine with variable density and coil pattern. So I just made some mini braids and wore them for two weeks. After that, I just took it to the next level and split each braid into quarters. It's kinda microloc esque but with freeform vibes because my hair frizzes if I blink 😁. I'm mostly braided with two point interlocked roots and I'm loving it. I have 227 locs btw.
You've demystified it. And shared it with us! I tried something like this a couple of years ago and I went nuts! My head is lopsided, lmbo! One ear is higher than the other and my hairline near my temples are also wonky. Meaning the number of square inches within the sections wouldn't jibe. For the life of me of couldn't figure out how to remedy the situation. I had a diagram, a calculator, lmbo at one point I even wrote a list of my objectives on the diagram so I could stay focused on what my math needed to achieve. lol But I could NOT make the math work with the aesthetic. The aesthetic is very important to me for this type of look but the math has to support. This seems so much better. I think I need a mathroom too. Thx u so much for sharing what all your work is based on. Keep up the good work. I've watched both part one and part two twice, I'll probably watch more when I get ready to try again.
I have a methodical type of thinking pattern, I carefully plan out everything, even my skin, nails and hair regimens. I really admire the amount of work and thought you put into planning your grid. Whew girl, I don't know if I have the patience and energy to do the same.
Girl! Thankyou so much. I took down my starter locs lastnight. I installed them 4 months ago. I really want this grid pattern and thanks to you I just finished the top section and I'm about to start in the back.
Hi Queen. I have 6 more sections to do on my hair. My son saw my hair and loves these set of locs way better than the ones I took out. He kept talking about them. He's been loc'd for 3 years now. I can't Thankyou enough. I love this set.
You MUST be an engineer! I can't thank you enough for this. I started my twists last night, but got really frustrated because I didn't plan out my grid. I also didn't consider beforehand what should be the average size. I'm not doing microlocs, but this will really help me get the results I want. Thanks to you, I feel I can get started and feel satisfied with the outcome.
Ok, that made so much more sense with the 3 anchoring lines from previous video. I also loved how you had break down the sections into much smaller ones so you can get pretty precise sizing.
I thoroughly enjoyed your entire series. I personally have an appointment tomorrow because my patience is less than stellar when it comes to hair care. 8:17 My hair is like 6 inches so I won’t be breaking the bank. Love, love, love that you took this so seriously and found time in your busy schedule to help others. Kudos Queen.
I have truly enjoyed your DIY microlocs videos. This one was the icing on the cake! I like how you broke everything down. I made your diy microlocs tool I just haven't gotten around to starting my loc journey. I will be using this video for reference when I do start. Thank you so much for sharing your insight with us. You will help so many ppl when it comes to figuring out a grid!!!!
I really appreciate your explanation for the grids. I'm planning on doing microlocs in a couple of weeks time. I've always done my own hair and I want the grids to be precise
Love the precision in this! It's up to everyone how much they personally care, but since I'm planning on having these in for years, decades, possibly even the rest of my life, getting it "right" on the install matters. I love you address the concerns about how everything will lay, including slope and density, especially in the front-facing sections. My biggest concern is exactly how small I want them and the length of reties. I love this really micro size, but also feel I'd love a larger 'micro' size like Nappy is the New Black has. So hard to commit when you know how time intensive it is to install and take down. They make so much sense for my lifestyle and I love them. But then I think, what if I install them and end up hating it??? Anxiety strikes again lol.
I’m a little stuck on the part where you actually came up with your grid 😩 I can’t seem to figure out how to actually lay down my grid with the general parameters and my head measurements. Do you add the 4 head measurements based off of the square inch to find out how many sections/ slash rows you have in each measured area? I’m also confused by the rows that you’re talking about in reference to the Bantu know boxes that the hair gets sectioned off. I’m sorry I know this is a lot. I’m just in the middle of setting my grid down and got stuck 😩
Now that I’ve watched your videos, I’m contemplating redoing my hair. I really struggled with the sizing because I didn’t do the small sections like you did, and for me, I now feel that’s essential if doing it yourself. I did two strand twists to start so the take down won’t be hard. I tried interlocking to start but my hair is shorter and I just couldn’t keep a grip. Thanks for these videos!
Wow that was so informative! I feel like I took a perfect college class. Thorough, yet concise.😆 I currently have no plans to lock my hair, but your hair is so beautiful, I was curious to see how it was done. I love how methodical it was. Thank you for taking the time to share your journey. I love your delivery, so I will continue to follow you on it.😍
I Love You Queen Eleem! You are so beautiful, intelligent, elegant and charming! I thoroughly enjoy watching your videos. You are a great teacher with a heart to help others. We appreciate you having the courage to think outside the box and implement this brilliant DIY plan. We are grateful for you just simply being true to yourself! Continue being your Best You.. inspiring us to be our best! YOU’RE AWESOME!!💖
I looked everywhere for one that included math before I started and was bummed when I couldn’t find one some I’m really glad to help ppl like you and myself that want to install on their own and just need a little bit of a guide 💕 lmk how it goes! 😊
Thank you so much for this in depth tutorial. I just paid $1600 to install sisterlocs but I'm so unhappy with the outcome. I'm planning on combing them out and installing them myself. These videos make me feel like I can do it 💜
So much math! You’ve done a great job. I’m considering installing my own micro locs. I’m not even sure I will be able to follow all that you’ve laid out here but I think there’s some good stuff to help me get started. Thanks for sharing this information!
This video was amazing! At first I was like, MATH?.. FOR HAIR😒 but with the visuals along with the math... it made perfect sense! I'm starting my journey in the next week or so and you've definitely helped me SO SO MUCH! THANK YOU!
Soooo you just gonna flex those beautiful Bantu knots on us huh? Girrrll you are amazing with your explanation and precise details. I feel so empowered to take the bull by the horns and finally begin this journey. I can’t thank you enough young lady. I feel like I don’t need to research any further
These dreads are beautiful and neat. I used to think dreads were a lower maintenance hairstyle but I see that's not true at all. I never had them but I did my hair in mini twists and maintained them for almost 2 months. Moisturizing is soooo important and it's scary thinking about all the possible snagging and snapping that can happen 😳 Only thing about moisturizing is shrinkage 🤦🏽♀️ it's always something lol
Wow, you did an awesome job explaining and showing the draft of how to part and do the hair can't wait to start my locs I'm twisting my hair cause my hair is so soft and very very curly so I'm going to blow-dry my hair and flat iron. I'm learning about and enjoying your teaching.
Hi! I'm so happy that I found your videos. I'm planning on installing my locs in a few weeks. I just have a question, I couldn't find the answer I your videos. Why did you choose to do 40 sections? Rather, how did you come up with 40 sections?
Chilllleee! PATENT THIS METHOD! Thank you for sharing!!! if you made this an affordable course with tools that we can download or buy, you’d make so much money. I WOULD BUY! A calculator or formula book would be great for those who struggle with numbers
I wish I could have seen this before I started my micro loss a year ago. When I started mine, I couldn’t fine any real good videos . I do not have a precise a grid as you do. As a matter of fact, my front sections have shifted with the many re-ties I have had so they are not even straight any more. I sometimes wish I could start all over.
You are simply amazing ! I have been spending hours thinking about my grid and making drawings especially on this special triangle crown area and my result falls right into your calculation I am so happy ! Well I might have spared some time if I looked your videos first but it still very pleasant to correct a bit with your math insights hahaha Also I am a little psycopath : I want exactly 300 locks and no more (I have a small head and fine hair) so I counted every part and adjusted everything so that it fits, I know my tables 4 and 6 perfectly now 😂 Anyway, thank you so much for your work, it is a real gift and you are really gifted (in brain & beauty ❤)
Your video was amazing. I took plenty notes, took screen shots. You broke it down hunty. I ordered the book as well. New subbie here. You broke this thing down to a science.
You are amazing! I am currently re doing my micros because I feel some are too big. I love how you took the time to do and explain your grid. I couldn't stop watching! Can't wait to watch your journey. Do you teach math?
I’m having a hard time wrapping my head around this maybe you can help. I have 12 locs from my hair line to my crown, 14 locs from my ear up to my crown and 22 locs from my nape to my crown, but I only have 522 locs... I didn’t section my hair into 40 sections like you to break it exactly down where the difference is but it’s hard to imagine how you over 100+ locks than me. I have counted 3 different times on 3 different days to make sure I wasn’t tripping. I even recounted all my locks 2x.
This was so detailed thank you for the video there shouldn't be any more questions after this lol now I'm contemplating doing my own versus this $1,000 price tag
Sister I applaud you for your technical, mathematical and precision skills not to mention your patience. You rock! Nevertheless I would be heading to the salon since I don't have any of those skills lol. I would also be sending my stylist the link for this video.
Lmaoooooo same. I historically cannot part but she’s making me think if my hair was straightened maybe I could. Might go to the salon just to get the parts done
@Queen Eleem, I am new to your channel. Thanks for sharing thorough details on how you set your foundation. One question that I have that I didn’t see anyone else ask is how you styled your hair when you had to go out during the eight week process of installing these? With some parts of your hair still being undone during the process. I know DIY microlocs are a long process and requires constant breaks. So how did you style your hair for your daily obligations (work, school, etc) during the 8-weeks of installation?
I kept my hair in those mini braid sections. Sometimes I’d pull those braids back into a pony tail. I would take out a section at a time to install my locs. Then when that section of locs was done I’d loosely two strand twist/braid the section back up.
I don't know if you'll see this, but I'm starting my lock journey soon and I want to straighten my hair before install to make it easier. Did you use heat protectant before flat ironing your hair, what product am I allowed to use before installing locs?
If you can avoid using any products you should. Starting in natural stretched hair is best, I used a very small amount of coconut oil before I flat ironed my hair. Once my section says we’re sectioned I then washed my hair while braided with shampoo to get as much oil put as possible before I started to loc
Uggghh! I still want to do this because I don't have the money for sisterlocks but I know that if I were to do this, it would probably take me out. I start questioning my sanity halfway through installing box braids 😂😂😂
Would shape of face and head be an additional factor to determining grid sectioning? and do you think the interlocking direction should change per grid section (e.g. crown can have a 4 point interlock where the 4th and last interlock is front to back, and front left grid section has a 4 point interlock that ends with a right to left interlock)?
I lost my first set of Sisterlocks to chemotherapy! I paid $1,200 for the installation. After watching this I think I will install my second set MYSELF!! You’re a genius!! Thanks for sharing!!
I don't know your name but you will be included in my prayers. I lost my best friend a couple of years ago. I hope all is well with you.

Love every bit of this and the breakdown just makes the process seem much more doable….
Both of your videos helped a lot! Especially the measuring of the head to get an estimated number of locs. Thank you soooo much!

This was so helpful. I was wondering how people figured out the scalp sizing for the grid.
Impressive!! Your videos are so great. So informative.
Yay! I was looking forward to this video! Thanks for the upload.

Once my section says we’re sectioned I then washed my hair while braided with shampoo to get as much oil put as possible before I started to loc
@@QueenEleem Thanks, I’ll use a small amount of coconut oil
You are incredible, I'm gonna do it.
YAY! Lmk how it goes!
Wow look can you just do my installation! Lol now to find someone to do what exactly I want cause this is it!
What math did you use to determine that you needed the 40 sections that you parted?
Looking at the SL grid pdf
I’m going to make mine so small that when you look at my hair you’ll confuse it for a press n curl until you look really close!
Would you also consider cutting/ shaping of hair before braidlocs an important factor?
What is the reason for having a grid? I understand to have the hair loc in a pattern. Does the grid help with parting and styling?
How many locs do you have in your head?
I started with 668
This is awesome! Ty!
this much math is making my head hurt but you do a great job thank you
Yes. You end wherever you want to loc to lay
Very detailed. Thank you
You should be a lecturer! Wish you could see me lean into my screen just to see your illustrations haha...thanks so much!!
U did that sis!!❤️❤️
wish I had this video a year ago when I started my locs 😭
So brilliant 🙌🏾
You coulda taught my loctician a thing or two when she installed my locs!😂
This is why people pay 500 and up! 🤣🙏🏽 GREAT JOB THOUGH! You saved yourself so much money!
Yes. You’re money is well spent if you decide to go that way but it’s nice to save!
Couldn’t figure out how to print your fabulous Grid map at all.......
But this does not consider the hair type. What about if you had the same head but much lower density hair what should be done then?
More locks/ smaller locks for lower density to increase overall surface area.
You are AMAZING!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
