    can you gut this MINDY lock for us please Bill? I'm curious to see inside it. ^_^

      I would like to see the guts as well

    • @Steel-Pinnings
      @Steel-Pinnings 8 лет назад +12

      Ryan Paton
      This lock will have to be destroyed to gut it.
      So the best way to guarantee it being gutted is to order one from Amazon and sent it to bill saying please gut this lock so we can see the guts.
      But you can do this method with just about any other locksport picker on YT.

      Haha kinda like Master lock... The outside looks great and is tough under fire as well. But the guts are riddled with cancer.

    The Chinese design some amazing locks, it's a shame they don't incorporate better materials and anti-pick technologies. They'd be some pretty challenging locks then.

    I've seen the same cores in Mexico used by a brand called Ashico, made in China but the brand claims to be Polish if I am not mistaken. I have one and I really like how easy the key goes in and how precise the core feels. This Mindy padlock is handsome.

    In the fire service at least one source suggests "case hardened" intends to resist compression cutting forces like bolt cutters. It goes further to suggest that case hardened shackles should indicate the need for rotary cutting tool

    • @Kenji314159
      @Kenji314159 8 лет назад +1

      It's actually not uncommon for cheap locks to have the 'hardened' stamp on the shackle and it isn't hardened, or only hardened on the surface. Especially if they come from China and the like.

    • @thephantom1492
      @thephantom1492 8 лет назад

      I got some "hardened" locks from the dollar store, 3 locks for a bux! A small, a medium and a 'normal'. The small one you can bend it by hand. The second one you can bend it with long nose (in case you don't realise, those ain't made to twist, but to grab things lightly). The bigger one... Take a screwdriver, and twist it. The package say "body and shakle hardened", the shakle have hardened written on it. The small one can be cut with one or two strike of a metal hacksaw. The bigger one I cut it with about 10 strokes... Don't trust 'hardened'.

    Well...writing "high security" and "hardened" along with the funky keyway might intimidate a potential thief from even trying, so it's probably a good idea to write that crap on your lock even if it isn't true.
    I wonder if that keyway would be a good place to try one of those round tension rings. I'd also try sliding a shim into the shear line while picking instead of using tension. It looked like there may be enough space for a shim there, and no guard or warding to prevent it.

    so. the dentist references about opening up his smile; every video, you handle your picks like your a dentist. and when you single pin pick, it reminds me of a dentist feeling for decay. haha. just had to share that...

    Those smiley keyway's certainly deter people who use rakes, the lock i use on my mountain bike has similar features to this but also uses spindle and serrated pins lol I have beat it once using mad bobs picks and a "wishbone" tension tool, learning so much thanks.

    On these odd hard to tension locks you could try UV set glue it sets really fast and so far I haven't had any adhesion problems. It cost about $10 and has an UV led light built in.

    Feels like a Brain De Palma film(MI1). So what are some locks that are hard to pick; hard to drill; moderate/severe brute force resistant; hard to hacksaw; less than 50 USD; less than 100 USD?

  • @FFVison
    @FFVison 8 лет назад +1

    I wonder if you could use one of those tensioners for shuttered locks (like on a car door). They kind of look like tweezers with the 2 tips bent in the same direction so that you can get a pick in between the tensioning tool. I wonder if this might be a bit too big though. Anyone know?

    Neat lock, silly that is says hardened, fake deterrent I guess. I would have liked to see how you'd pick this lock without using the vice to hold it in place. Seems like cheating a bit having it held for you, but that's just my thought.

    While the lock body and shackle seem to be pretty rubbish, the core (more precisely, the keyway) seems very good. Imagine having to pick that thing while it's hung up on some door or gate, not in a vice.
    You would need 3 hands to tension, pick and just hold the lock which should make things difficult
