What does an inspection opening on a large feeder tank typically look like? Is it above the water level? Or does the tank have to be drained to allow the inspection opening to be opened? Also how is it opened for example, is it bolted shut?
Steven Tasker Normally it would be an elliptical manhole, with yokes and bolts to hold it in place with a gasket. That’s what I’ve seen anyway.

You'd have to drain the tank to open the manhole so water level would be irrelevant.
What if it the tank was at atmospheric pressure? If the manhole was above the water level would it be possible to open it without draining the tank?

Can anyone explain what is the relationship of heating surface and amount of steam produced in a boiler?
No idea how to calculate it, but the basic rule is that the more hot surface is in contact with water, the better efficiency rate.. meaning the boiler shape and shrouding is critical if maximum efficiency rate is targeted.
@@normoloid well, there is a fluke in our community. What we do, we divide the total heating surface area by 250 and resultant is the capacity of boiler in tons.

Why extraction of steam from turbine taken at particular stage...How to decide the stage where extraction can be taken....???
The steam turbine manufacturer, using a thermal kit or heat balance software, determines the location of extraction stages. For example in a 900-1000 MW steam turbine-generator, the steam turbine is typically designed with three sections; namely the high pressure section (HPT), the intermediate section (IPT), and the low pressure section (LPT). Each section is designed with one or more extraction stages to ensure the desired power level (900-1000 MW) can be met. The HPT may have one (1) extraction stage, the IPT with three (3), and the LPT with two (2) extraction stages. These extraction stage combinations are established (using the thermal kit) for optimum turbine and overall plant efficiency. More important is that the Turbine-Manufacturer can satisfy and guarantee his equipment at maximum continuous rating (MCR) at 100% power level.
