2003 at KAF that Welcome sign wasn’t there. We walked into a big yellow tent for the in-country brief. Around midnight, August was hot, good ole days with the 10th Mountain Division. Climb To Glory! 🇺🇸

I served - 1998 to 2000. Mos- 11c Infantry. 1st Cavalry, 2-8 cav . Ft.Hood Texas. Deployed to Bosnia also. All this after just graduating from Infantry school - Ft. Benning Georgia. I wouldn't take back a thing. Only issue with me now is that I haven't been able to find employment and things haven't been going well for me in years. I don't do drugs, I don't drink alcohol excessively or look for trouble anywhere. Just a guy that has been trying to settle down for a at least a decent opportunity at life. But I guess I keep coming up short of it. Bad luck I guess. Well thanks for your service to all the vets and have a great day to you all including non vets. Dave ..

+Simon Ridgely: Law Enforcement is a decent path, but if you're in California, you'll be paying out of pocket for everything (unless you get sponsored by a county Sheriff's Dept. somehow). Security is a sure bet. I only do it part time these days, as I have another job. One thing for sure is that vets need to give each other all the encouragement and support necessary as there is a common bond shared between us all.

+wingz on stringz t.v: I served from 1999-'02. Funny thing is the NCO's who I found to be the biggest @ss holes are some of the ones that I remember the most fondly and in the long run probably learned the most from. The only regret I really have in having served is that my mind wasn't really in the right place as far as truly putting my heart in the game and taking the most advantage of what the Army had to offer. One thing is being compelled to be motivated and another is being a self starter. I hear you on your struggles as I have had similar ones as far as landing opportunities that will take me further in life's journey and provide me the stability I seek. In any case, to be honest, I blame myself for many missed opportunities and for not having the 'discipline' to follow up and follow through on things. The sad thing is that when I truly had feelings to go back to service, I was already over 35, which made that an impossibility. Now that I am at a mature stage in life, I find that I am starting to get my act together so to speak and getting all the pieces put in place. Remember that the power and strength is within you. Do the damnedest you can do with what you have or whatever challenges you might find yourself in. Things change the older you get; you know that, but your mental strength and self determination are attributes that no one can take from you and will get you through your challenges. Lastly, don't be so hard on yourself and recognize the progress you make and be content with that. In recent years, I've had military related dreams where I'm back with an NCO or a military buddy in the most bizarre of circumstances, and I swear to high heaven that it feels so damn real when I'm in the moment. Cherish your memories, but live in the present and strive for something better and be the best you that you can be within reason. Basically make the best out of what you've got. HOOOAH!

A lot of overweight troops here - are these people all active duty or are some reservists.
