This type of camera was very sought after in my childhood days in India during the 1970’s…

Thay are fairly rare over here. I have only ever seen this one in the person. I have come across several Yashica-flex branded, but not the Yashica-D. Thanks for watching and commenting!

there was version with an F2.0 aperture. The viewing lens was f2.8 but taking lenses were all f3.5. The later models had the same Yashinon 80mm F3.5 lens that is in the Yashica mat 124G. The early models have the Yashikor lens.

I misspoke when when describing the aperture. Being the worlds worst RUclips photographer means those kinds of things happen.

@@joeheptn it happens apparently I even misspoke in my reply haha. I meant to say there was "no" f2.0 aperture

I haven't used my Yashica D for a few years. I'd like to shoot with it again. I had a vague recollection that you had to keep that button pushed in every time you winded on the film which I found to be a drag. It required a fair amount of pressure and if it was mounted to a tripod, it could potentially shift the camera's position slightly. Other than that, it's a fun camera to use. I brought it out of storage recently and noticed the shutter is sticking with some of the slow shutter speeds. B is fine though. I'll shoot some long exposures of the local creek and small waterfall as we've had so much rain here. It's been an incredibly wet winter. I'll load some Fuji Velvia 50 film and wait for an overcast day and whip out my 3 stop ND filter.

Sounds like it needs a CLA mine had issue with shutter stickiness which the CLA cleared up. I sent mine to a person Atlanta, but that was several years back so I don’t know if they are still available.

Just push the button once, then wind. Stops automatically at next frame.

@@alfredbarten4901 Oh yea I figured that out some time ago. It certainly makes life easier. Now it's a more enjoyable camera to use.

    Hi Joe
I was not aware that you can't change the settings for the Aperture and shuttle speed once you have cocked the shuttle. I have the Yashica 635 and I have no issue with that. You should have also mentioned that this TLR camera allows for double or multiple exposures too, as other later models like the Yashica 124 and 124G can't.
As this is a vintage camera and hard to find in such a good or excellent condition, I would put a piece of cloth on the table to protect any scratching on the two lenses outer rings when loading the film. I do this on my laps so that I won't scratch my cameras. This is just my opinion.
You have good sense of humor. Great work.

Thanks for the comment. You are absolutely correct in that I should have used a cloth when setting the camera facedown on the table. I didn't think about doing so because the way I changed film in the video is not how I generally change film for that camera. I usually hold the camera in my lap or with my right hand when putting in new film.
As far as multiple exposure goes, I completely forgot that camera was capable of taking them because multiple exposure is not a facet of photography I have explored. The camera I use in the next video does multiple exposure also, and I completely forgot to mention it in that video.
I think a video about me trying and failing miserably to take usable multi exposure images with one of these cameras might make for an interesting video.

I'm not aware any Yashica TLR had a taking lens with a f/2.0 aperture. The best they had was a viewing lens with a f/2.8 aperture.

The D represents the best of the knob wind Yashicas. The more "advanced" series is the crank wind. I have both, but prefer the D because its is lighter and has an accessory shoe on the left side, which lets me place a small light meter in it (or a flash gun, though I seldom use flash). The crank series does not have this shoe, but instead has built-in meter, which aren't very good. It's dead only Yashica Mat LM. My F has an f2.8 viewing lens, which gives a brighter view than my LM, which is f3.2. The D also has double exposure capability, which the crank series does not. Be careful!

How do you set up the ASA speed ??

    • @joeheptn
      @joeheptn  5 лет назад

The winding knob has an ASA dial, but many times I forget to set it because Ido the metering via a meter of some sort (usually an app on my iPhone) and then set everything manually on the camera.

@@joeheptn The ASA dial doesn't do anything other remind you what ASA film you have put into the camera. Providing you remember to re-set it each time, of course.
