Hi Connie, you’ve enabled me again, I need the metallic neo colour ones now. I loved all your pages and backgrounds. The one in Woodland Kingdom is very pretty, I may have 2 copies of that book, don’t know why, just felt I needed an extra one!!! 😂
Thank you for sharing this video. So many great ideas! Here in Pennsylvania USA our leaves start fallig the third week of August. This year leaves started falling the first week of August. Too soon for me! I am from Minnesota and understand all about the miserable isects. Yikes! Lol
I said it in your other video and I will say it again … those black backgrounds with that marker looks like black velvet 😊😊😊😊 love it! Can’t wait til they get more in stock 😊
Really love your colour scheme choices, vibrancy and how chatty your videos are. It's great to hear your thought processes. Have added 3 books to my Amazon basket as a result of this vid. Consider yourself an enabler! 😂❤ You have a new subscriber, thank you for your content. 😊
If you want some soft pastels that you can use with the pan pastel tools I will tell you to get arrtx.. I have the 48 set and I use them like that. I don't like to touch the pastels, I hate to use a craft knife to "grate" them, so I love that the arrtx are soft enough to use with pan pastel tools (that plastic ones that you put the little sponges. I believe now they have a 72 set. I suggest those tools to Shelscolouring when she got the 72 set and in one of her latest videos you can see that she stop "grating" and using cotton pads and now uses the soft pastel ones with the arrtx. I cannot promise you will like it but I think they are wonderful and a great price.. Maybe watch some reviews first.. Hope it helps ❤
Nice coloring Connie - I really enjoy how you are always experimenting - it's fun to see and inspires me to do the same! Those Zig Art & Graphics Twin black pens are magical...Thank you so much for introducing it! Best wishes for back to school.
Hey my fellow left brained colorist! The neo 1 page was wow! The blue background you’re unsure of, if you have a soft pastel close in color you might be able to even it out. When all else fails, I pull out black acrylic paint. For matchstick mouse, I’d leave the two hue black and just outline the circle in paint, a metallic of some sort or something nice and sparkly. My tricks aren’t even tricks but instead simple fixes to issues. I’m sure there are more creative solutions but my problem solving brain says, just go split up the blacks and your tree limb dilemma goes away. 😂
Very beautiful pages. What I use for solid color backgrounds is Acrylic brush pens. If you go slowly and in the same direction there are very little streaks and it doesn’t bleed through most paper.
Very true! :) I've used the acrylic brush pens for backgrounds, too, but I wanted to see if I could get a decent background from the non-brush pens. I have a bunch and wanted to see if I could figure out a use for them as I don't use them enough (and am feeling guilty for buying them :)).
Oh Connie!!! so fun!! I have the Garden Enchantment due to Maia as well!! It is too hot in California as well...and this year the biters are just crazy!! One got my calf in my kitchen!! Your pages are amazing!! I also love the experiments!! I am still fighting the paper. Amazon paper is tissue in the book I am coloring...the little frog book. Challenging. The paper game is an awful fight! However even the pencils are a challenge! Who knew this would be such a puzzle!! Keep away from the bugs!!! and those black pens are amazing! and yes they look like velvet!
some lovely work there Connie ,I would carry on with the foxglove page , you could always fade that black edge out slightly with a dark blue but I think it looks great and your foxgloves are beautiful .
Great video Connie. I like to use black acrylic paint for backgrounds. I prefer Americana decorart. Loved that Neo 1 metallic. Looks great. It reminds me of the folk art color shift which I just started using in my books for backgrounds. I have lots of whips too and ok with that. I would leave the black circle in matchstick the way it is. If you make it darker you will loose the circle. The pic reminds me of someone looking thru a binocular.
The Decoart black acrylic paint is lovely for backgrounds - I'm just being super lazy with the Zig marker. ;) :) And thanks for the thoughts on the Matchstick Mouse background!
Very true! :) I've done that, too, and it does give a lovely matte background. :) Because I'm lazy ;) I've been enamoured with using the Zig Art & Graphic Twin marker just because it's easier and less messy than paint. ;) :) Thanks for chiming in!
How can you tell beforehand which books are printed on Amazon paper? I wish the publisher would tell us the pounds and roughness/smoothness of their pages
Cheezes are like hard cheetos. They are yummy, going to have to go get some from the store now haha. You did lots of experimenting I love it. I need to find some of the supplies you use you create some pretty cool backgrounds. Definitely add that color the forest book to my collection!! What you can do with markers is amazing, I have been practicing but wow! Thank you for sharing!
For the matchstick mouse background, I would do some different color stars in the black (with the trick you shown for the fireflies) to create the impression of space, and the do a shiny border around the circle to create the impression of a glass bubble floating, so like a smoothed posca around the border and some reflection on top of the image to simulate glass
I LOVE that idea!! But I'm afraid you might be over-estimating my colouring ability. ;) :) I'll think on it and see if I can work up the courage to try it. :D Thanks so much for the suggestion!
Wow, you've been busy. I am curious about the black backgrounds. Is this what you used: ZIG Memory System Writer Marker 010 Pure Black | Dual-Tip (0.5mm & 1.2mm) for Scrapbooking, Journaling, and Cardmaking | Acid-Free and Fade-Proof Ink That black background is amazing! I would be interested in seeing how the fixative works. I was hoping that the other product worked, sorry can't remember the name). I would love to see a video on ironing your pages, as well. Because of your channel, I want to start playing around with the Staedtler pens. I got the original set, for now. I want to get the Zig, a few colors, and the black pen especially. Try them out before I buy the big set. I got that "full set" syndrome😅 I am a digital gal. I like ordering paper in bulk (250-500 sheet packs) Do you have any recommendations on paper for markers? Neo color 1 metallics I bought early this year. Now I have a purpose to use them! Love the shiny effect of a tissue. Who would have thought?
For the black background, I used a Zig Art & Graphic Twin marker in black - you can buy it through open stock here: www.markersupply.com/zigartgrtwma.html I've never actually ironed a page :) but I know that Jen from Jen's Coloring Corner has done so - here's her video on how she does it: ruclips.net/video/AJCmyv_dO6w/видео.htmlsi=_EcZC3pn0Dyil-mf I don't often scan and print images but the recommendation I got from Jennifer Stay over at Coloring Bliss for a good paper for markers is Hammermill Cardstock, Premium Color Copy, 60 lb. If you search for that online, you should be able to find it. :) Glad you liked the video! :)
Im wondering if inktense might work in the pre-glittered book? Or maybe those Stabilo pencils you showed near the end of the video that advertise a writing on plastic??
Sorry! I mean colouring books that are printed on CreateSpace paper - so printed directly by Amazon and not another publishing company. You can tell if a book is printed by Amazon by looking at the product details given on the Amazon listing. If the book says "Independently published", it's probably printed by Amazon through their printing sub-company, CreateSpace. The paper and print quality can vary from place to place but in Canada, the US, and the UK it's generally not very good. Hope that helps! :)
Question…you mention Blick quite a few times. Being Canadian, were you ever hit with duties? And how fast is their shipping? Looking to make an order just cause some things I’d like to get are cheaper than delta art even with the conversion. And certain things are very hard to find in Quebec lol not you can’t find at all.
If you order from Blick to Canada, you will have to pay both duty and a brokerage fee - it can get pretty pricey. In the end, it might be about the same price to order from a Canadian store - their prices are probably higher because they've already paid the duty and the fees to import the stuff. :) Have you ever looked at Deserres? Or Paint Spot? Or Above Ground Art Supplies? Jackson's or Cult Pens might have what you're looking for and if you wait for a sale, you might get some good prices at those places, too. :) Hope that helps!
Hmmm... That could be! It does say in the front of the book: "To make the most of the glitter effect, we recommend using alcohol-based markers or permanent markers." I read that to mean that I was supposed to use alcohol-based or permanent markers on top of the glitter areas - but I could be totally mistaken. :) Maybe I'll try another page and go with your idea of leaving the pre-glittered parts white - we'll see what happens! :)
Sorry watched video again not sure how I missed it but they are sold out. Do you have the brush one or the other? Thanks again. Sorry to bother you! My daughter is a 6th grade science/math teacher. Totally not chemistry but hey! 😊
I use the one with the foam rubber brush nib, not the one with the real brush nib. I have both and I find that the one with the foam rubber brush nib gives a better, more solid looking black background. I'm sure they'll restock soon. :) Glad you're liking the videos!
Hi Connie! Whow!!! The Neocolor 1 methalics are amazing!!! I did not know you could do this with these 😮!!! I want these! You make me greedy 😂😂

Maybe you should try waxy, low pigment regular Crayolas on the glitter areas.

Usually if the book is printed by Amazon, it will say "Independently Published" under the publisher's name in the listing. :)
