Wow. The lack of interest on the creator’s part is so obvious. Apparently, the reason Moon the Moon was so complete was because Maxwell Atoms had to recycle a script called “Billy and Mandy vs the Martians” into the episode. And given how he and Craig McCracken have spoken at length about how everyone knew this was a bad idea, I think that what CN should have done was pitch the idea to the different shows, and see who would’ve wanted to take part in it. I know that’s super unlikely, but I’m spitballing here.
yes that's right each of these 5 shows which were cartoon network's best shows during 2007 were selected to be in this special event consisting of these special episodes & on may 6th im watching the 1st episode of cartoon network invaded which was "cheese a go-go" because each year on 1st week of may until memorial day I do commemorate this event & commemorating this cartoon network invaded each year is how I celebrate memorial day because during april of 2008 (year after this) I decided that every year on 1st week of may until memorial day im commemorating cartoon network invaded
@@andreg.ignacio that's cool, I wish the episodes had more connections and weren't all the good rated shows bit it is what it is. Keep up your tradition 👍
CN is highly experimental with its animation. Their cartoonists give you the impression that they walk around their studios wearing lab coats all day. But like any other company, these scientists still have to adhere to the whims of the executives who don't really know a thing about actual research. SMH.
nice I also liked this & this became cartoon networks most notable & captivating special event during may of 2007 & because this week im commemorating this event this friday night im watching this events 1st episode "cheese a go-go" & im also commemorating event until memorial day because during april of 2008 (year after event) I decided each year on 1st week of may until memorial day im commemorating cartoon network invaded & commemorating cartoon network invaded each year in may is also how I celebrate memorial day
Same actually like the event as a kid especially to this day because I didn't really care about what is behind the scenes of the event I was enjoying my favorite cartoon network characters dealing with creepy aliens
Honestly, the only part I ever saw when it aired was “The Eds Are Coming”. Jimmy’s nightmare and the ending still kinda gives me chills, and I wish there was actual follow up and payoff to all of this.
I agree also this cartoon network invaded is a special event that I commemorate each year on 1st week of may until memorial day because during april of 2008 (year after this event) I decided each year on 1st week of may I shall commemorate cartoon network invaded & this is how I celebrate memorial day (including watching movies released during may & marvel 1's & doing other memorial day activities)
Yeah!! It could’ve been a two part episode special of Ben against an eldritch alien who is extremely powerful against Ben, and wins in the end, though the ending he says that this isn’t the main timeline, just a mere alternate timeline that you shouldn’t worry about. Because he is that powerful. A cosmic observer who only intervene when he thinks it would be interesting in an alternate outcome. Like Cthulhu or something like that.
Not Evil per say, but one who doesn’t view the universe in black and white, since it’s been around far longer then the universe itself was made, so such trivial concepts aren’t important to them.
Ben 10 already has aliens in every episode. It wouldn't make a good "Invaded" special when it blends in with the rest of the show. Cartoon Network had to pick shows that don't normally use aliens for this gimmick.
One thing you left out, in the My Gym Partner's a Monkey episode, there is a scene where the Ed's appear on a newspaper saying the cul-de-sac disappeared Real talk, I loved this whole event as a kid
yes & this became cartoon networks greatest event during may of 2007 & during april of 2008 I officially decided that starting 1st week of may I shall commemorate this cartoon network special event every year during 1st week of may & continue to commemorate this event each day during may until memorial day also during this cartoon network special event I had directv & commemorating this "cartoon network invaded" is also how I celebrate memorial day each year including by watching movies released during may including marvel 1's
I liked this promotion. It fed into the brand CN was cultivating at the time; it made all the shows they aired feel like part of a diverse community that knew how to coexist with one another
Actually. The characters from the other Cartoon Network Shows beside Billy and Mandy did receive Frankie's other packages: Jimmy from Ed Edd n Eddy, Clam from Camp Lazlo, and Adam from My Gym Partner's a Monkey. Although, I don't blame you for not noticing. Because the Easter Eggs are so hidden a lot of the time, that you don't notice them a single bit
@@Numbuh900 maybe, I mean. there was a cartoon network promo in another country where CoCo from Foster's Home for Imaginary Friends and Shnitzel from Chowder interacting with each other in a chat room afterall
All I remember what a severe lack of payoff. But at least this explains the aliens saying "cheese" at the end of the FHFIF episode. It was SUPPOSED to be a Macaroni and Cheese commercial!
Whoa! I remember this back in the day! The idea of linking episodes from different shows to create an interconnected story is an interesting concept! Such a shame that it wasn't what we expected. Potential wasted.
I think there actually was something a bit similar to this done on the USA Network with 4 of its cartoons; Street Fighter episode The Warrior King, The Savage Dragon episode Endgame, Mortal Kombat: Defenders of the Realm episode Resurrection, and Wing Commander Academy episode Recreation. They each revolved around a magic orb that a Conan the Barbarian type character voiced by Michael Dorn was trying to retrieve.
From what a little I’ve heard of it (I saw Phelous review that specific episode of Mortal Kombat) it was a better example of a cross through than CN Invaded was. The OC and macguffin were at least a little interesting especially when taking it all together, both of these elements interacted with casts of other shows in one way or another, and because of the nature of the crossover the eps can still be viewed individually without feeling lost. It makes me wish the aliens were more involved in earlier shows without repeating the same plot over and over again.
I think I remember seeing the Mortal Kombat cartoon creators being the least interested in this because they had the character that connected it all show up for all of two seconds in the episode just to jump into a portal in leave lol
So I vaguely remember this event, but I had no idea it was supposed to be one full story and tie-in to each other. I thought it was just ‘CN episodes about aliens’ and that’s it. It’s funny I came across this video though since I just finished a rewatch of Ed Edd n Eddy. I actually like their episode (except for that stupid ending), since it all being Rolf’s family made sense and the themes worked a bit too since Ed was always a fan of monster media. That ending is so ridiculous though.
Interesting stuff, I'm happy that the Billy and Mandy crew were able to make something entertaining out of it at least. As for more modern ratings traps in cartoons, it's all about those damn 'shipping wars (ala Miraculous Ladybug or Adventure Time with Finn and Bubblegum vs Flame Princess, for example).
When this first came on, I was so confused. Was this the epic story they promised? Now, I find it painfully meh, especially how most episodes are the exact same. I think that shows how uninterested everybody was in making this. The creators (minus Max) must’ve met up and shared notes and loglines to help cut down on the work needed.
...What if the K.N.D. wasn't part of it because it would undermine the reveal of the existence of the G.K.N.D., and C.N. was merciful enough not to executive meddle that badly?
It may have been multiple set ups that amounted to less than a worthwhile pay-off, but I'll take it over modern CN any day. Still, it would've been nice to see a legit crossover between the shows, similar to what the comics for the cartoons did.
There's was very little interaction with the aliens in each show, but it did give me laughs with the hilarious Gilbert Gotfried playing a platypus in My Gym Partners a Monkey! Too much hilarity!
I remember there were some live action promos that kinda freaked me out as a kid Like one where a little kid was looking out the window. The dad asked "what is it?" And then the kid said the aliens are coming out (or something to that line) the dad carries his camera and looks out the window but before we could see anything The CN invasion logo appeared. Been looking for that promo forever
nice every year on 1st week of may I commemorate this because during april of 2008 (which was year after this) I decided each year on 1st week of may until memorial day I shall commemorate cartoon network invaded & commemorating cartoon network invaded every year on april 30th until memorial day is how I celebrate memorial day & watching movies released during may including marvel 1's & this made the year 2007 a great year & youtube during 2007 & other sites were & other entertainment was so awesome during that year & every year im waiting for april to end so I can commemorate this cartoon network special event again
2:12 ironically adult swim did the invading force thing better for a continuous Halloween short, turned April fools prank, hopefully turned series, pibby apocalypse… it’s built with the same hype up and is also built into the episodes,
Here’s how I’d make this alien special work! Have those alien mascots in those commercials be in the specials. Cartoon Network kept hyping up these guys to death saying that THEY’RE GONNA INVADE CARTOON NETWORK! And have the cartoon characters interact with the alien invaders That’s my idea.
Introducing story, I was too young to get into that ratings trap. But looking back at the roster of shows they picked, am I the only one that found it weird that they never considered to use Ben 10? That was Cartoon Network’s ALIEN show. I know that Ben 10 was a action show and the shows they picked were primarily comedies but I thought Ben 10 would fit in. Maybe not a full on episode but maybe a promo or a comic or something you know?
That is a good question however I think it might have been due to Ben 10 being a Warner Bros property, not a CN one. I'm sure they could've made an arrangement but probably didn't feel like putting in the extra work or something. Idk, just my prediction.
I think they ignored Ben 10 for the reason of already being an alien show. They wanted a gimmick of aliens invading shows that didn't previously have aliens. If they put Ben 10 in the Invaded week, it would have just been another Ben 10 episode.
Yeah, I remember the CN Invaded event. I had no clue that the creators from these shows that didn't like it. I also didn't realize that it was a ratings trap. I enjoyed the event, but you do bring a good point that it didn't really live up to the hype that CN had been advertising for. I also find it crazy that CN doing a deal with Kraft but only for Kraft to back out on the deal. So weird. Overall, yeah, this event could've been better. I'm also surprised that they didn't include other shows, including Ben 10 - since that show had aliens.
nice & yes I do agree because yes imagine ben 10 also added to this event & I also remember this cartoon network special event & im commemorating this event this week including as I watch this events 1st episode "cheese a go-go" this friday night at 7 (which was exactly when this episode 1st aired at) & ill watch rest of events episodes because this became cartoon networks best event during may of 2007 & during april of 2008 (year after) I decided that each year on 1st week of may until memorial day that im commemorating this event & commemorating this is also how I celebrate memorial day every year since 2008
I never even knew Invaded was advertising Kraft's Macaroni and Cheese. I mean, they only got generic cheese in these episodes. Shouldn't sponsors make it clear what they're selling?
16:31 I have a example called Operation A.L.I.E.N. (Alien League Invade Entire Network) where the Common Cold pretends to having a alien invasion all around KND in order to steal their tech (one of them is a piece of cosmic camembert cheese that have a wonderous smell) and sell it to other villains which includes the aliens. The second episode Operation E.A.R.L. Where the same aliens discussed about how the KND are undefeatable while showing clips of KND fighting Father, Sticky-Beard, Common Cold, and Puttiniski.
If KND got an Invaded episode, that would give way to (future) implications concerning Galactic Kids Next Door... a show that everyone wants to exist but CN refuses to acknowledge whatsoever.
But seriously, when I was a child, a wee boy, I was a HUGE fan of everything paranormal and I still am. Ben 10 and The Secret Saturdays were two of my favorites because I was a fan of aliens and cryptozoology. It's because of that that I especially liked the CN Real shows like Unnatural History, Tower Prep and The Othersiders. And when I saw the promos for this, I thought it was going to be an epic crossover with elements of other alien invasion movies that I liked like The War Of The Worlds. Boy, was I wrong. At the time, all I thought was "Meh" because I still liked the shows despite the mediocre nature of these alien episodes. But now that I know that this was basically a failed product placement for Kraft's Macaroni & Cheese, I feel stupid now.
Hmm, the Frankie Part for the presents did "in some form" get into the other shows Ed, Edd & Eddy: the box contained Bon-Bons "which were empty" that Sarah was carrying and told Jimmy not to eat before bed since he'll get nightmares "because Jimmy did eat the Bon-Bons before bed which caused that nightmare in the first place" My Gym Partners a Monkey: Slips and Jake finds in the box that carried detergent or was it just stuffed away in Adam's Locker? Idk? Camp Lazlo: The Box wasn't revealed but Clam was holding it in Strange Trout from Outer Space Billy & Mandy: We already know it was a shirt/sweater. I didn't remember much of it myself due to playing video games and the later part of the 2000's Internet as a tweenager "age 10"
I remember when this was happening I was so hyped and excited I thought it was such a cool idea and I loved that it meant these were all going to share the universe because I really liked these shows as a kid I know your video here was about how it was kind of disappointing but even with hearing that there's a part of me that still wants to revisit these episodes in this event for the nostalgia I might still give it a shot cuz haven't watched a couple of these shows in many many years Billy and Mandy is an all-time classic tho
nice starting may 6th im watching this special events 1st episode "cheese a go-go" because during april of 2008 (which was the year after) I decided that each year on 1st week of may until memorial day im commemorating this & commemorating this cartoon network special event each year is also how I do celebrate memorial day
This is a perfect example of marketing over substance. I feel like if it was just marketed as an alien-themed block and all the UFO connectivity was removed it would have been perfectly fine.
That's what I thought it was when it came out I'm actually kinda shocked about them all being connected its kinda cool But ya I just thought it was them like oh abunch of aliens and invading shows so there's going to be aliens And that's pretty much what we got
yes this became cartoon networks most notable event during may of 2007 & im commemorating this event this entire week & entire month until memorial day (im also watching events 1st episode "cheese a go-go" this friday night) because during april of 2008 I decided each year on 1st week of may until memorial day I shall commemorate cartoon network invaded & commemorating cartoon network invaded each year is also how I celebrate memorial day (& I use to have directv during this event)
"i dont think any network's done this before, at least not a kid's one" disney channel kinda half did this with their live action shows in the late 2000s, three shows (cory in the house, suite life of zach and cody, and hannah montana) all got visited by the same shooting star and they each had an episode where the main characters of each show have a wish granted and then at the end the star puts them back in time to before they made the wish. btw the suite life one is the best of the three because mr moseby gets laser eyes in it
Nickelodeon is the only one of the 3 Kids networks to never once do this type of Crossover tv tropes calls Cross Though and Red Skies crossover. CN did it once with invaded and Disney Channel does it a lot Wish Gone a Miss, HeatWave, MoonMonday madness , Olympic Torch and Monstober 2015 . Nick could and should have done it with the World's Coild that spreading them out instead of mushing them toghther in a 32 min special and one got just a cameo.
Years ago when I watched this event I never thought it was gonna be some big cross-over. Heck, it was only 5 or so years ago when I discovered the 2 endings of this event on RUclips. Them collecting all the idiot characters and them covering the moon in cheese. (Which then led to the KND cameo) Though I have to say, thanks to your video, the cheese obsession of the aliens finally makes sense. (More so than the cheese moon ending's explanation anyway) it makes you wonder what would've happened had kraft not pulled out.
If memory serves, they actually did address the knd not being involved. I think it was in the big grim knd crossover. They were literally just playing videogames on the moonbase and ignoring the entire event.
Looking back when I was hyped for the invaded "series" as kid, I knew even back then it was disappointing. I mean all the episodes with the exact same spaceships and alien designs, how does not scream "wasted potential"? And personally I couldn't stand these "no one believes me" stories (there's a good side to the Ed Edd and Eddy one, if you could call it that). Not to say I don't understand why most of the cast don't believe the main characters, but still pretty annoying. But that's not my main problem with most of them. My main problem is the endings of them. You probably could call them cliffhangers, since they'll leave you scratching your head. I mean they sure left _me_ with more questions than answers. The only one I'm a real fan of was the Billy and Mandy one, because of course.
I want to hear the story as to why you weren't allowed to watch Ed Edd n Eddy, that seems weirdly specific when it was the most normal of CN's shows. My biggest disapointment with Invaded weirdly is that it wasn't a big crossover event. I fee like that would have made it more entertaining.
I mean Ed, Edd, Eddy was definitely a lot more mean spirited than a lot of other cartoons at the time. My dad hated it because he thought it was too stupid so it was also just annoying to a lot of parents
It might have been specifically because it was normal. At least with most other shows there's a clear distinction between fiction and reality, but since Ed, Edd, and Eddy took place in the suburbs, it'd be a lot easier for stupid kids to try and imitate what they see.
@olaoluwapowilliams5169 that's still very small and non of the other shows mention one another and frankly this is a bad review of CN Invaded filled with hate if you want a better review then watch either Norty North or Toonrfic's
I totally forgot about this! I think I ended up giving up around Gym Partner because I could tell what this was. I’ll give Moon the Moon a view since apparently it’s pretty good.
What is it with Alien Themed Event going wrong? Team Fortress 2 apparently had a whole Alien Invasion thing that was community made, had a few maps made and everythin' but it fell through and was apparently cut short
It seemed like such a cool, ambitious idea. I've heard the term "red sky crossover" used to describe events like these. A shame that they don't hold up so well.
It's much better then Seth Hurrican Trilogy as there no Seahorse Sea Party in any of these episodes. Also seeing how Red Skies are mostly for Live Action shows we should be more gratful
Tbf I haven't seen cheese a go go, but I'd say Foster's Home for Make em Up Pals is the worst episode. It manages to be boring and frustrating at the same time. And the fact that it's essentially a longer version of the bendy episode that came out after the bendy episode makes it much more insulting.
They got regular title cards because when Invaded was over it was time for regular intros as would it made any sense to use the Invaded intro on Foster or Camp Lalzo in 2023 ?
the ending to cheese a gogo scared the ever living shit out of me as a kid when i saw the episode for the first time. i didn't recognize that they were saying cheese, so all i heard was this extremely alien sound creeping in from some clearly outside force that wasn't expected, even by the characters, and it just getting louder and louder as they arrived. it was the same kind of fear that something like signal simulator or voices from the void touch on, in full force for the first time in my life. it was the only part of that episode i remember well, and its hard to find a proper clip of, so it almost feels like i was crazy sometimes. i remember enjoying the ed edd n eddy episode, and it being really outlandish, but that must have been cause i was a kid and ed edd n eddy was always good.
I loved this event as a kid and I still love it now because of how unique it was compared to what Nickelodeon and Disney Channel have done. This, along with cameos in episodes of other shows, were what created my headcanon that almost all of the classic Cartoon Network shows took place in the same universe. It's not a serious headcanon, but I still like to hold onto it.
nice I also remember this cartoon network invaded & starting may 6th im watching this events 1st episode "cheese a go-go" because every year on 1st week of may until memorial day I commemorate this cartoon network special event because during april of 2008 ive decided each year I commemorate cartoon network invaded on 1st week of may until memorial day
This is so surreal because everywhere else online that I’ve been, a lot of people still loved it and it seemed like a success, with people even wanting to see a similar event for modern Cartoon Network shows.
@@eatatjoes6751 They weren't talking about specifically the marketing. Even in the comments of other reviews of each episode of the event, the consensus was more positive. This video and this comment section sticks out like a sore thumb to me, and I didn't specifically look at youtube either by the way.
I liked it. I was mad that I missed the finale when it aired. I was expecting all the build up was for a new alien based cartoon cartoon. But nope, just regular cartoon network shows with a theme.
Well you got a subscriber since as a kid, I loved these unique episodes. Gave a scare factor for me. Especially with the Ed Edd n Eddy episode. Just didn't realize it was a rating trap. But it was a good one for me as a kid. Though admittedly besides the Ed's are coming, never saw the other invaded episodes again in a long time. But with how you trigger my nostalgia, I thank you for this video nonetheless.
You know, I never really understood why parents were so quick to ban Ed' Edd' n' Eddy from their households, mine were the exact same way. Maybe it was just too cruel of a show to parents who don't want to expose their kids to a bit of warped reality, same reason why they homeschool them and put... like, no effort into getting them out of the house I guess...
I grew up not being allowed to watch half the things on Cartoon Network so I didn’t watch this. I do remember my friends talking about being disappointed until Billy and Mandy came on, I had to smile and nod pretending that I knew what they were talking about. 😅
I liked this event. It gave the channel a nice feel and atmosphere for a short time. However, yes, I was disappointed in how it all played out. I never knew that Frankie's packages were supposed to make it into the other shows. Thanks for that bit of information. 👍
I do remember this and this was when I was like. Irrationally terrified of aliens so seeing this shit on CN had me terrified when I was little. Like everything about being outside at night had me scared of aliens, being under the full moon made me think of aliens, spot lights freaked me out when I couldn't see the origins, and specifically this one building that looked like a UFO in Florida that really freaked me out. So when THIS played on cartoon network I was so fucking terrified for no real reason. Now Im older and I know the context behind it, I know the real thing to fear is corporate meddling. /hj
Cause it had a too realistic look as compare Ben to Ed or Billy. Also since its already a about aliens it would be too easy while the rest either had no aliens or 1 or 2 alien themed episodes before like Billy and Mandy Brains so they was more pizzazz
I first learned of this event with the Foster's episode where it had the Invaded intro (it did eventually get its proper intro and title card like the others), I did see the Ed, Edd n Eddy episode first but I didn't know it was part of the event. Even though the Ed crew (like the others) didn't want to really do it, they just went crazy anyway and I thought it was creepy yet awesome. Billy and Mandy also went crazy with it as well, so props to the creators anyway (two of them anyway) for just rolling with it.
nice I also do & yes this became cartoon networks best event during may of 2007 & this week im commorating this cartoon network invaded including by watching 1st chapter "cheese a go-go" this friday night because each year on 1st week of may until memorial day I commemorate this cartoon network special event & this is because during april of 2008 I decided each year on 1st week of may im commemorating cartoon network invaded & commemorating this event is also how I celebrate memorial day since 2008 which was year after this (I also had directv during event)
There was another Cartoon Network marathon that was themed around episodes that had epic fights. The two shows that I remembered being part of the marathon were Regular Show's "A Bunch of Full Grown Geese" & Mad's "Randy Savage: 9th Grade Wrestler." I cant find any of the promos, but maybe you'll have better luck.
I liked these at the time…watching them now….not really. I rewatched these two years ago and was like “Were these the ones I watched when I was little? Really?” I think I let the awesome promotion influence my opinion and memories.
At least it got us the masterpiece of The Eds Are Coming. Outside of that, yeah, they're all pointless looking back on it and realizing, "Oh, the episodes were supposed to be a giant event to sell cheese singlets. Why couldn't they have used Cheetos or Ritz Bits Crackers? Scooby Doo had a contest once for Cheetos...that would have worked!" Also, I think this was around the time where (foreshadowing) I was getting bored of Cartoon Network for the first time until Regular Show and Chowder. Really the main thing that annoys me is that this wasn't some failed movie marathon promotion of Ed's or a nightmare of his and how they went with...Kraft for their promotion. Kraft, really? Also, it feels like the Camp Lazlo/Ed, Edd n' Eddy crew were the only ones who kind of gave a shit and the reason KND wasn't in the special is probably because the huge reveal that the Galactic Kids Next Door including Lizzie were aliens would have been severely undermined by the cheese thing though it totally made sense.
The Edd Ed n Eddy episode was always kind of weird to me since it acted like this big event taking place in the show until in the end it turned out to be all a fakeout, what I didn't know is that this wasn't just bait for EEE fans, but also bait for the people awaiting this special. Can't be surprised the Billy & Mandy episode is the best one, that show is near animated perfection.
I honestly was hyped about this whole event. I remember I couldn't wait to watch this when I got home from elementary school and I had the most fun watching the Ed Edd n Eddy one. (Because Ed Edd n Eddy is my favorite show.) But yeah. I did love this invaded block. It had me hype all the way till the end!
I honestly loved the invaded event it was a lot of fun to watch and something spooky to watch around halloween my favorite was the ed edd and eddy special
I remember this. Vaguely but it's coming back to me. Actually, you guys know what I remember more? The year during the Halloween season where all they aired was Goosebumps and another R.L Stine special called 'Don't think about it.'
Cartoon Network introduced me to the Goosebumps tv show as a kid and I freaking loved it. I was surprised as a kid that there was a TV version of the books.
@@troin3925 I was already a hardcore Goosebumps fan around that time. I knew there was a tv series but there was never any re-runs on any networks until that year. I wanna say this was around 2007.
I think I enjoyed this event because I knew none of this was going to lead to a satisfying conclusion with an in-depth story linking all these cartoons together cuz...these cartoons' canon could NEVER cross over in their respective shows. CN City sure but this to me just seemed like a fun gimmick that'd use easter eggs to link them together, LIKE, it was neat seeing how elements from each prior alien kinda linked together before the big reveal in Billy and Mandy. Ironic given it seemed like the kinda extra mile these talented creators just would go to for the sake of it when it was just network mandate. As for Foster's, NO. I'm sorry there is NO way you can convince me Imposter's Home for Make 'Em Up Pals was NOT the worst. I'll take an episode full of aimless chaos where Frankie is frustrated trying to keep everything together, only to end with her failing but still aiming to help her friends in the end of it, over an episode where she's actively punished for a lazy, obnoxious character's OBVIOUSLY awful scam that he pulled off actively...only for it to be revealed it WASN'T a scam w/ some schmaltzy garbage message at the end. SO garbage I don't believe for a SECOND that JOHN was an imaginary friend, and he was just wearing a fake nose under his fake nose and those were people he hired to get off scott free. One has Frankie failing with the message of "you were wrong and screw you for being wrong", the other has her failing and going "oh well" more optimistically. Sorry I'm just, VERY heated when it comes to that episode, SCREW "Goofball" John McGee...
All I remember was that there were five episodes of shows that had aliens in them. The only one I remember any details of is the gym partner one because it had Gilbert Gottfried yelling “brain juice”
I remember seeing only the Foster's and Ed, Edd and Eddy episodes after the event ended and thought the whole alien thing was like some non sequitur joke, I only found out recently it was actually an event.
2:21 A network had done this before, namely NBC. Not long after rechristening their Thursday sitcom lineup as “Must See TV Thursdays,” they came up with an ambitious crossover stunt for 1994’s November sweeps week: Blackout Thursday. Since their lineup for the ‘94-‘95 season was set entirely in NYC (Mad About You, Friends, Seinfeld, and the short-lived Madman of the People) they decided it would tell an overarching story about a citywide blackout. None of the showrunners were happy about it, especially the producers of Friends and Madman since both shows were brand new and already being saddled with gimmick episodes. Perhaps most notable was Seinfeld’s refusal to participate in Blackout Thursday despite being promoted for it, the writers and producers unanimously agreed it was a dumb idea and used their clout to give NBC a flat “no.”
The sad part is, this was the perfect opportunity for cartoon network to do a massive movie for some of their most popular shows. Maybe have it be listed as a Grim and Mandy movie but the plot involves other shows...maybe instead of My Gym Partner's a Monkey.
11:09 There reaction to seeing R.L Stine's creations. As well as Stephen King's creations. But in all seriousness the background characters SERIOUSLY needed a chance to shine bright in the limelight. I'm sure they all have very interesting personalities that have yet to be explored. And if there had been an actual alien invasion themed episode, then that would have been the perfect time for the other animal student characters to shine and for us to get to know more about them.
I dont rember this as a kid but when i started the video and you said aliens invaded cartoon network immediately my brain was firin off speculation and ideas. Like oh man what if they are trying to take over cartoon network studios first for some goofy reason and through the episodes the characters start to notice and work together in a one off special episode massive battle...... one can dream of a better world
Bloo: He's Wearing His Sunglasses Jonathan: I'm Not An Alien Just An Alien Masher From The Year Of 1990 Repping The Atlanta Braves As Their Outfielder Mac: That Makes Sense Given That He's Wearing An Braves Shirt
Ed Edd n Eddy is grounded, but nor entirely. There were a small number of episodes that had unexplained stuff. Setting that aside, its not the least realistic thing. I'm not an alien conspiracy nut, but given the scale of the universe it's not out of the realm of reality that aliens could exist.
@@jaggerguth4391 Dont forget the murder og crows that show up after Ed's ritual. Edd exclaims rhat their migration route isnt near their area. Creepy! Lol
I vaguely remember watching it. Kids Next Door would have made a lot more sense since they did have a moon base and aliens play into the finale. It seems like they just chose whatever was most popular rather than what would have made the most sense.
Honestly i never remembered the build up but if i think about the episodes on their own with a loose theme i actually do like some of them. Particularly the billy and mandy and ed edd n eddy episode.
The KND technically did make a cameo on a bonus Billy and Mandy scene. Sector V is playing videogames in the Moonbase while the aliens are filling its craters with cheese, but aside from Numbuh 1 commenting on the smell, they didn't do anything about it.
Cartoon Network's Invaded would had worked better if the episodes were crossovers like fully instead of what they are now. They Mosty kind of are but wasn't really connected well as a crossover special.
Also from what I heard is that these shows where choosen because these shows had moderate to high ratings

CN is highly experimental with its animation. Their cartoonists give you the impression that they walk around their studios wearing lab coats all day. But like any other company, these scientists still have to adhere to the whims of the executives who don't really know a thing about actual research. SMH.

I'm surprised Ben 10 wasn't part of this Alien theme. CN Invaded feels incomplete without Ben 10.
I know, right?!

They each revolved around a magic orb that a Conan the Barbarian type character voiced by Michael Dorn was trying to retrieve.
didn’t know street fighter & mortal kombat had shows
From what a little I’ve heard of it (I saw Phelous review that specific episode of Mortal Kombat) it was a better example of a cross through than CN Invaded was.

Now, I find it painfully meh, especially how most episodes are the exact same. ...What if the K.N.D. wasn't part of it because it would undermine the reveal of the existence of the G.K.N.D., and C.N. was merciful enough not to executive meddle that badly?
Didn't the K.N.D get an actual alternative credits scene with them actually on the Moon base playing Video Games?
It may have been multiple set ups that amounted to less than a worthwhile pay-off, but I'll take it over modern CN any day. Still, it would've been nice to see a legit crossover between the shows, similar to what the comics for the cartoons did.
There's was very little interaction with the aliens in each show, but it did give me laughs with the hilarious Gilbert Gotfried playing a platypus in My Gym Partners a Monkey! Too much hilarity!

How did they do it better they just took already existing episodes and have libby make them go black. At leaste Invaded had an orgunal ongoing story
Here’s how I’d make this alien special work!
Have those alien mascots in those commercials be in the specials.
Cartoon Network kept hyping up these guys to death saying that THEY’RE GONNA INVADE CARTOON NETWORK!
And have the cartoon characters interact with the alien invaders
That’s my idea.
Ngl that’s what I was hoping the special would be when it first premiered.
That would had worked wonderfully. Replace the platypus with one of those aliens.
I had completely forgotten about this, but the thumbnail brought me right back to 2007.
YEAH! MY THOUGHTS EXACTLY, MY GOOD MAN!
@@TheBamaPrinceable Actually, Ben 10 is a Cartoon Network property. It was produced by Cartoon Network Studios.
Ben Ten is to different of a style from the other shows
I think they ignored Ben 10 for the reason of already being an alien show. They wanted a gimmick of aliens invading shows that didn't previously have aliens. If they put Ben 10 in the Invaded week, it would have just been another Ben 10 episode.

I never even knew Invaded was advertising Kraft's Macaroni and Cheese. I mean, they only got generic cheese in these episodes. Shouldn't sponsors make it clear what they're selling?
I guess so
16:31 I have a example called Operation A.L.I.E.N.
I remembered that event as soon as I saw your thumbnail and I can’t remember a single episode as a part of it.

But seriously, when I was a child, a wee boy, I was a HUGE fan of everything paranormal and I still am. Ben 10 and The Secret Saturdays were two of my favorites because I was a fan of aliens and cryptozoology. It's because of that that I especially liked the CN Real shows like Unnatural History, Tower Prep and The Othersiders. disney channel kinda half did this with their live action shows in the late 2000s, three shows (cory in the house, suite life of zach and cody, and hannah montana) all got visited by the same shooting star and they each had an episode where the main characters of each show have a wish granted and then at the end the star puts them back in time to before they made the wish.

A fellow Dave the Barbarian connoisseur. I look forward to what else you have in store.
Years ago when I watched this event I never thought it was gonna be some big cross-over. Heck, it was only 5 or so years ago when I discovered the 2 endings of this event on RUclips. Them collecting all the idiot characters and them covering the moon in cheese. (Which then led to the KND cameo)
Though I have to say, thanks to your video, the cheese obsession of the aliens finally makes sense.
Wait, this wasn't just a fever dream?!
I never heard of a kid not being allowed to watch Ed Edd n Eddy. Spongebob maybe. But not our dear Ed boys
@@theshrimp1657 Parents hate everything a kid does, so I'm not surprised.
My mom never let me watch it because the characters were stupid
I saw a mother say that it is the show where the characters hurt each other in silly ways.
It might have been specifically because it was normal. At least with most other shows there's a clear distinction between fiction and reality, but since Ed, Edd, and Eddy took place in the suburbs, it'd be a lot easier for stupid kids to try and imitate what they see.
The Disney Channel event “Wish Gone Amiss” weekend is basically Cartoon Network Invaded done right

“Have I Got a Surprise for You” is worse for me.
Here’s how I’d describe this event. All bun, no meat.
Billy and Mandy was that one kid in class who ends up doing all the work for the group project.
They got regular title cards because when Invaded was over it was time for regular intros as would it made any sense to use the Invaded intro on Foster or Camp Lalzo in 2023 ?
Very random but the Seth MacFarlane shows had a crossover kinda like this where each was hit by the same hurricane.
Rick's alien forms looks like the rest of the aliens
the ending to cheese a gogo scared the ever living shit out of me as a kid when i saw the episode for the first time. i didn't recognize that they were saying cheese, so all i heard was this extremely alien sound creeping in from some clearly outside force that wasn't expected, even by the characters, and it just getting louder and louder as they arrived. it was the same kind of fear that something like signal simulator or voices from the void touch on, in full force for the first time in my life. it was the only part of that episode i remember well, and its hard to find a proper clip of, so it almost feels like i was crazy sometimes. i remember enjoying the ed edd n eddy episode, and it being really outlandish, but that must have been cause i was a kid and ed edd n eddy was always good.
This was my favorite event as a kid.

I think it was a bit too grounded in reality compared to a lot of other shows of that era that they were worried about kids trying things at home

& commemorating this event is also how I celebrate memorial day since 2008 which was year after this (I also had directv during event)
YES, DEFINITELY.
Scooby Doo had a contest once for Cheetos...that would have worked!"
Also, I think this was around the time where (foreshadowing) I was getting bored of Cartoon Network for the first time until Regular Show and Chowder.
1:33 Uhh... what!?
“This is a filler episode that makes even Naruto blush.”
I honestly loved the invaded event it was a lot of fun to watch and something spooky to watch around halloween my favorite was the ed edd and eddy special
How was Ben 10 not a part of this?
Seriously, KND had a one-off villain called the Cheese Shogun. The script could’ve written itself!!
Dang it, I just remembered him, yeah.
Like, what happened?!
I remember seeing only the Foster's and Ed, Edd and Eddy episodes after the event ended and thought the whole alien thing was like some non sequitur joke, I only found out recently it was actually an event.

Dude
Have you remotely heard of an episode called everyone knows it’s bendy
The Powerpuff girls and samurai jack along with Dexter would make absolutely more sense for aliens to show up.
Like that boomerang or that phone or the sky is falling.
@@jaggerguth4391 Dont forget the murder og crows that show up after Ed's ritual. Edd exclaims rhat their migration route isnt near their area. Creepy! Lol
Like The Supernatural Things
I vaguely remember watching it. Kids Next Door would have made a lot more sense since they did have a moon base and aliens play into the finale. It seems like they just chose whatever was most popular rather than what would have made the most sense.
They only appeared for a brief moment in an alternate ending.
People were speculating and horrified about this, thinking it was the end of Cartoon Network as they knew it.
That bonus scene is the "Alternate Ending" that replaces the original ending that only premiered ONCE.
@@X2011racer you can find both here
Glad I’m not the only one who remembered this.
The Ed Ed and Eddy one was the best one cause there's a handful of episodes that can be that crazy if you've seen the show
Cartoon Network's Invaded would had worked better if the episodes were crossovers like fully instead of what they are now. They Mosty kind of are but wasn't really connected well as a crossover special.
