I LOVE what you do with the shortened draw length! I bought an ancient hoyt a few months back because its cheap and a lefty even tho it's draw is ~1.5 in too short for me, I shoot with that knuckle anchorred into my smile and it works just fine!
That swamp Makes me think of the time my friend took me Deer Hunting in a Canoe... Don't ask... As I'm not sure of the legality of the tactics we used... but we did both wind up punching our tags that day.
Beautiful work as always. And thanks for the video representation on why the word "no" comes right after the word "hell" when I think about some of that natural bow backing. "Would ya like to wander around the swamp looking for a cotton mouth?" "Hell No!". All kidding aside great vid and always love the look of those snakey bows.
I have built a few 72" Ipe and bamboo long bows and they are great fun to build and shoot but i'm not that good to hunt with yet.Still hunting with compounds and maybe one day will go old school. Thanks for sharing.
Traditional archery is more about you and the mark than it is about the bow and the arrow. That said, having a bow that is a gorgeous work of art can't hert ya none.
Funny. I was just watching your snake skin video on this bow last night and was wondering how you caught the snakes. Pretty insane bow. Really getting interested in this style of bow.
Thanks for posting something. I can't shoot in my quarantine in Michigan and I'm missing it. On a side note, when you kill a snake like that, crush it's head. When you cut it off like that the brain stays alive for a while, and that's no way to die. As a fellow hunter, I know you respect the animals you kill as much as I do
good video man! Hogs, snakes... hell Florida seems like a great state for bow hunting!! But if you ever find yourself up near Maine and feel like doing some hunting let me know!
I really want to get into archery for hunting but also recreation. I messed around with my grandfather’s hunting bows from the early 70’s. I’m more interested in traditional than compound. Would a bow like this work for someone basically starting from scratch?
Always helps accuracy if you put an annoying person's picture up on the hay bale. It's a good stress reliever and is strangely very satisfying. Shoot for the nose.
Dear Clay, thank you for all the enjoyable videos, and helpful tips. I have an enquiry if I may? The snake skin you used, was there a curing process before you glued it to your bow? Or was it glued onto the stave fresh, allowing it to dry on the bow? Thank you again, all the best Stephen
I've often wondered why archery supply and e-bay sellers never offered cotton mouth skins. ( they only sell rattle snake) I've made several Osage bows, many with snake skins. I live in Alaska and there is no such thing as a snake in Alaska so I've had to buy skins from suppliers. I think you should try selling some cotton mouth skins on e-bay.
Hi Clay, I have been shooting bows and hunting since I was big enough to stretch the string on a little fiberglass bow! I have killed a couple deer with a recurve but I have a lot to learn when it comes to set up and tuning. I have had several lower back surgeries but have wanted to build self bows for years, this back problem has held me back from trying it. Your videos have inspired me to finally give it a go! I have a couple of kids that like archery and I would like to build bows for them or even get them building their own with me! I am going to sign up for you patreon but have a question I hope you can answer for me soon. Is it too late in the spring to cut down a hedge (Osage) tree? I live in East central Kansas and didn't know if they would have too much sap/moisture already? I am going out to cut a tree for stave material today! I hope you can tell me that it will still make great bow make staves!?!? Thanks for your time, Brian
Hi Brian, I don’t care what time of year it is. Just seal the ends well. If you cut them now you can slip the bark off which will keep horntail wasp from laying eggs on them. Make sure you seal the sapwood if you do. Wood glue works great.
@@clayhayeshunter Thanks a bunch! I was told from someone to cut them late winter or early spring, before they started greening up. Glad I asked you! I'll cut this one I have spotted and keep my eye out for more. Thanks again!
Gold tip traditional arrows and they have the next level up which is goldtip traditional xr or something like that. Sound s like youd need a 350 spine but look at their chart and check
I shoot goldtip trad arrows on my 50lb I cant notice much difference between 500 spine and 400 spine they both work great 350 spine or so should be good for your 70lb bow
Well if you don't like Snakes you can always back your bow with Rawhide... maybe draw some designs on it with Natural Pigments? No need to have a nekkid bow :)
My dad hates snakes. He tells a story about why he hates snakes. When he was young 8-10 his cousin visited over the summer. They went down to the creek to catch frogs. Well his cousin found a 2.5 foot milk snake, and being a kid started messing with it. He grabbed it by the tail and started whipping it above his head like a shepard’s sling. It entended up slipping out of his hand, went flying and wrapped around my dad’s neck...
WOW!! That underwater picture of the cottonmouth is amazing!

That swamp takes me back to my younger days in SE Texas. Crawdad holes and all!
Yep

Oh yea, I'm from outside Beaumont Texas in the swamp area, north of orange

He smashed it's head with a stick right off tho
Howdy clay, I was wondering if you ate the snake that you killed?

Wild do

Sure

Works best during an election year. Lots of free posters. "Is you is or is you ain't my constichunts?"

Wonderful
Sorry, kinda new to channel... Do you sell your bows?
That's a gorgeous bow. I'm surprised it's not more desirable. Are there any downsides to a snakey bow like this one?
Not if they’re built well.
Have you ever used Burmese python as a bow backing? They are invasive and grow huge.
Can't skin a constrictor snake like that.
We don’t have them in north Florida.
Do you have to snap shoot a self bow, or can you draw and hold like a laminated bow?
Lindo arco 🏹🦌🐗👍💪!! Saludos d Uruguay 🙋♂️
Hey Clay what do you charge for a snake Bow between 45lbs and 50lbs?
Nice

They're fairly hard to come by. All the rattle snake skins come from those round ups in texas.
Love the bow... did ya BBQ the snakes ...

a good one !!!
After you skin the snake, what method do you use to prepare the skin before placing on the bow?
Just tack them up to dry. Or put them on green. Doesn’t matter.
🤔 Which arrows would be best for hunting with a 70lbs SinoArt Lion Recurve? And also for hunting with a 50lbs MandarinDuck Phantom Recurve?

use small hooks on lepord frogs with fishing line on a tree. it works catching snakes
Funny I use just one cuz I'm lazy but at end of day I gotta work more
Great looking bow, I've yet to pull off a bow with so much character. What are the mosquitos like in the swamps, must be deadly in a few weeks?
Not bad right now
Looks like it wont be long before the morals come out, still dealing with snow here.
Are you able to ship it to Canada?
Yes.
How do we buy one from you
Oh s#!t u seen how fast that snake turned his head i would of ran so fast my boots would of still been in the water side by side.😂
Are you going to hunt with this bow
Never mind
Snake meat's pretty good if you cook it properly, ya know.
Shows that much more respect to the animal and the life taken as well.
clay
i want buy it from you please
It’s already sold. More to come though.
I post the bows for sale on Instagram
@@clayhayeshunter can i got your Instagram id please
@clayhayeshunter
Sure it can.
Nope! Nope! Nope! I've decided my bow is just fine being naked after watching that! I hate snakes Hayes. I hate em!
Well if you don't like Snakes you can always back your bow with Rawhide... maybe draw some designs on it with Natural Pigments? No need to have a nekkid bow :)
I like how you described it as naked lol
Just let me be the first to say... I hate snakes..... I Hate snakes.... I Hate Snakes!!!! Awesome Bow though!
😂 I’ve always loved’em!

It is usually the Indian, not the arrow
High venom your snake
