I knew it was going to be Endless OS. This is a really cool distro, I wish more schools took note of it
With all the old PCs they normally have it would be an excellent use for them
@@spamtongspamton3422 gnome is resource heavy tho, my Thinkpad with i5 4gb of ram can't run gnome smoothly
@@17moh.oktaviazizn.75 Yeah. Gnome is heavy. If you are lucky you can get it Down a bit but it is hella slow. Maybe use cinnamon instead. Easy and similar to windows so school kids would find it fine
I agree.
perfect distro for linus ltt linux challenge
Thanks for the detailed review!
- Daniel @ Endless
Wow amazing! My absolute favorite part about this is hack. Learning linux and also learning how to config things is pretty awesome. I would've loved this when I was a kid. But then again, linux wasn't as mature in the early 90's as it is now lol.
That "taste of the internet" is probably the best parts, to be honest. As soon as they get a social media account they get corrupted.
Protect our future, ban social media!
(om maybe a bit harsh, but in principle correct) :)
You're using social media right now
@@ruukes4770 That does not invalidate my point.
@@Glurgi I'm surprised that none of the big tech corps have STILL not come up with a moderated social media site for kids...
@@fiddledotgoth There is probably some good money in it, to be sure. Weird part is that there is an entire (huge) industry that carters only to kids with toys , clothes etc.
This is actually fantastic. I am so happy that stuff like this is being made to help teach them while they are young. The penguin army grows!
That really is a tremendously amazing thing! Thanks for sharing - it's refreshing to have content that is so different in focus from the usual Linux RUclipsr fare!
I was dead sure it was going to be endlessOS.
it is a pretty good distro and something we should aim to help communities without internet.
Great test, fun and atypical! I've been testing this distribution for a few days and I'm very pleasantly surprised! Even if I prefer for my personal use to use Solus KDE, I will propose Endless for my friends, families and also, the people a little old who have difficulties to use a computer. Here, the system files are read-only and the Flatpaks are updated automatically. Simple and pleasant! Thanks a lot for this video :) Sincerely from France.
Really cool distro I never heard of before. Thanks for sharing!
@techhut Thank you for this review. I have been looking for a Linux distro for my grandchildren. In my search I came across this one a few weeks ago, but hadn't tried it. Now I'm going try it with my grandchildren as a live usb to see if they like it, and how much.
Thank you for sharing this! I'll definitely give this a try to find out about more!
I have to say thank you. I saw this in my feed and was semi like, I should check this out or maybe not on the fence. Considering I plan on eventually making an after school STEM based place, this is useful and considering I never heard of this OS. So thank you for bringing this to light. I would say they need to have alternate languages, and maybe they do, but I will check it out since translation is a not that big of a deal. Thank you for highlighting this.
The notification style tutorial and the hacking toolkit look pretty cool!
I just bought my first Pi for my kids. Excellent timing.
I'm so impressed by this that I will install it my little brothers computer
I hope this is still worked on and updated in the future, really awesome project
That looks so cool!
This is a very unique distro!
I'm 13 And I LOVE Linux, I Have An Ubuntu/Win10 Dual Boot And I Plan To Make My Own OS Soon!
Best linux distro for kids: endless OS
The linux distro kids actually use: Android
Based on a true story
I feel this would be great for even just basic navigations of gnome. Especially for users coming from windows.
Thanks man, I was just searching for a Kids distro since I'm getting a laptop for one of them, this changed my mind about the distro that I had planned.
what did you plan? And what's your opinion since one year has passed since your comment?
@@montre-moi I am very happy with it. One of the things that I want is to allow them to change the system (check mark). Also, more security in internet, for that I need help of other pieces like a DNS system like PiHole (plus some other lists to block sites).
Put all that together and it's pretty neat.
My daughter uses Elementary os and she's happy with it.. And i like the parental options on it...
amazing video!!
4:28 ngl I want that thing on my pc rn rn
Man, as a kid I could not even DREAM of having something like this.
I've opted for Zorin 16 Core in order to begin my Linus learning, exploration.
this is amazing
Thank you for the cool review will be putting this on my wife's old laptop for the kids
This looks pretty sick
hmm this distro looks great . Im teaching my 12 year old sibling how to use endeavour os with kde
Awesome
Man this Is Cool
My son uses void linux but Enless OS is nice too. He learned how to use thunar now he make his own folders and is learning how to use gimp, shell is a little hard cuz he is only 6 years old.
@techhut Hi again. I have been recently checking out Zorin OS Edu. It looks like a great learning distro for children. My grandson started learning using one of it's games, GCompris. I thought you might find it of interest. Thanks
Waiting for pop os 21.10 it's released
It is released, you can go to the upgrade and recovery option in settings to check if it is available
I wish they used something lighter. But it is so gorgeous!! ♥
The Hack looks so damn fun...
Cool
That is really awesome. I love the fact that it is so educational. I am gonna have to put together a low end Laptop together and put EndlessOS on it. I really like all the offline info that it contains. So what if it is 18GB's in size, worth it. I know for a fact that I will learn a thing or two for sure from this.
Whoa! EndlessOS was devised for developing and 3rd world countries - now it turns out kidz in the states need this shit as well. G'night America. :(
How does this large file,s usb was burned. Does normal available programs are capable as i was unable to burn windows iso in linux due to its size
Also try out Kano OS.
Well, time to switch distro on my daugther's computer!
Oh boy, I'm fearing RUclips will flag this for RUclips Kids. Gotta teach those 9 yo how to install Gentoo.
I am 14. I installed arch when I was 10. I installed gentoo when I was 11. But I got tired of recompiling my system every time so I switched again to Arch.
Nice meme btw
@@JTCPingas I use btw os
@@mihaist3f I use amogOS
(pfp sauce?)
@@ddc171 her name is roxy from jobless reincarnation
@@mihaist3f yeah I knew it was from Jobless Reincarnation, I just didn't remember the name.
why is abstract algebra (group theory, vector spaces, homomorphisms, etc) under the normal "algebra" tab??? that is university level stuff on the same tab other topics, some of which is basic algebra... moreover, linear algebra, which is a part of abstract algebra, has its own separate tab...
that math app isn't really well designed in terms of content organisation, imo
I don't know mate, I was surprised by this too but I've found that kids these days are learning it in elementary school, at least where I'm from. Some of these concepts have been introduced at university level for me
@@ararune3734 kids learn abstract algebra in elementary school nowadays? where are you from?
2:15 ☺️👌
wow
there is a raspberry pi image you should try out
You always looked as stoned as I feel watching your videos 😂
does anyone know if this distro comes fully translated to spanish?
I using fedora as a daily driver?
make a video on pop os 21.10(release version)
Does this distro have a language support?
I've been looking for something like this. I have a 13 year old son and I am really concerned that there is nowhere for kids his age to learn about computers. Schools teach an absolute load of rubbish which is of no practical use to anyone. This OS seems really promising.
Definitely agree, EndlessOS seems pretty cool although I don't really know who exactly it is targeted at. Some parts of it seem to be directed at primary school students while other parts are for high school students. Btw maybe your sons plays games that he can mod, that's basically how I started coding when I was 13.
yep
I wonder why the English version of Endless is so much bigger than the French one...?
Gentoo
i actually discovered this didtro in 2019 but when i installed it oon my laptop it was too bloated and laggy so i moved to other distros and forget this
Their consept is amazing, but i'm wondering are these apps available also for other distro like ubuntu? I prefer ubuntu even for children, bcz when they start explore things, it will be easier, with more popular distro
We already have endless os, why do you want ubuntu?
Probably? They're all flatpak or just custom shortcut for collibre.
@@throwaway9738 I mean there are many reasons. Smaller download size, you can choose which programs you want to install without having an overwhelming amount, etc
Do you still plan on doing that android apps video?
Doesn't work well at all
@@TechHut rip, I tried myself but my core 2 didn't support some odd feature anbox needed so I gave up
WHEN IT USES "windows to display info"
17Gb?? That distro is thicc, truly "endless".
*ba dum tss!*
As a 13-year-old, If you consider me a kid, I think every kid should use Gentoo.
I consider you an edgy teenager
@@master138 As an edgy teenager, I consider him to be a cool guy.
17gb? Endless OS indeed
That's the full version where EVERYTHING but the kitchen sink is stored offline. Useful for third-world countries. Not that useful otherwise.
I think Trisquel is better for educational institutions
i'm 14 and using arch linux since I was 12
ok, then?
its arch
hello distro primtux
If they ever do a proper translation to Swedish I will recomend it to erveryone I know with children.
Why? They can learn English, my first computer was all English, nobody to hold my hand because my parents knew nothing about computers or English. Kids find ways to figure it out, trust me.
I fail to download this OS.
Kali Linux for kids when?
which kid hacks, just the school's koolkidz
yep
I think this OS is not good for children because it’s limiting the kids and what they can learn and I also tried this distro when I was 12 and I hated it because it feels so limiting and than I just started with a normal distro (arch or Ubuntu for example ). and also I think this OS should have more animations for visual impact so the kids know what is happening
12 is a bit late for this I feel. It would almost feel too childish. Ultimately all the extensions can be disable and applications removed.
LMAO
Bloat in its finest lmao, jk i see why one could want those apps by default
How are kids going to use blender, gimp etc. They need completely new kids oriented alternatives.
I have not watched the whole video, but as a middle school student, I believe the best GNU/Linux distribution for young people is Arch Linux.
Not sure if trolling ... xD
im first
Any distro with rounded corners are made for kids.
why?
I think you sayed that because Windows 10 doesn’t have them 😂 😂
or maybe rounded corners just look good?
why
why? Is it because it's safer for kids since they can't bleed out of sharp edges?
for children lol, linux desktops are not even for human
