- The 19th Psalm abounds with geocentric sentiments. This is unsurprising since it is a historical fact that the ancient Hebrews believed in a flat earth covered by a dome. However, Christians who seek to defend their belief in a globe commonly argue that the geocentric language of the Bible is nothing more than poetry. Indeed, none would deny the harmonic rhythm and potent imagery of this psalm. Yet does the use of poetry make these verses untrue? On the contrary, metaphor and simile are used for the very reason that they bring the truth to light.
The sun is likened to a bridegroom coming out of his chamber, and to a strong man running a race. Clearly, the purpose of these similes is not to argue that the sun is a man, but that it--like a bridegroom hastening to his wedding and a runner to the finish line--quite literally, moves. It is the principle of motion that is attributed to the sun by these comparisons. And this motion cannot be that of the sun charging through a supposed outer-space, for it is further described as a circuit.
In this psalm, three verses are dedicated to establishing the point that the sun moves in a circuit above the earth. Two vivid illustrations are employed to underline this fact. Remember, the sun is the bridegroom; not the wedding altar. It is the sun that moves; not the earth.
Another whole verse (verse 3) is given to establish the fact that the sun is contained within the firmament which is called a tabernacle. Yes, this is a metaphor. The firmament is not a tabernacle. However, it is like a tabernacle (or a tent) in that it is arched over a flat floor to provide open room within. If the firmament were not like a tabernacle, then what would be the meaning of this metaphor? Further, if there is no firmament-as the heliocentric model affirms-then how could it show forth God’s handywork?
To brush all the geocentric language of the Bible under the rug of ‘poetry’ is to not understand what poetry is. One might as well brush verses 7 and 8 under the rug, for in them, the judgements of the Lord are said to be more desirable than gold and sweeter than honey. This too is poetry. Poetry that highlights the inestimable value and pleasantness of God’s law. If gold were not desirable, and honey not sweet, then the use of such poetry would be meaningless.
By the same token, a bridegroom coming out of his chamber is moving. A strong man running a race is moving. And these clear comparisons reiterate the observable reality that the sun, going forth in his circuit, is moving.

When I first read Genesis & it said the Spirit of God moved upon the face of the waters & separated the waters from each & created the Firmament I thought that was the ground. Then I had understanding & meditated on each verse of Genesis ch 1. Beautifully done ! The landscapes are amazing like our creator !

Hello and thank you for your very kind words. My name is Kim. The Psalms are poems, many of which, were originally put to music, and used in the Jewish temples (Jesus was a Jew) to praise the Lord. I am self-taught on guitar (I have just always loved them), and have never really thought of myself as a 'musician'. (I've always been a closet player and singer) I hadn't played guitar in many years... and never in front of people... having only recently begun playing and singing again. Your comments were uplifting and very much appreciated... with ALL glory to the Most High. I composed the melody for this Psalm... and others that I am currently working on, having been inspired by our Heavenly Father. I have early stages of arthritis in my hands, and so cannot play very complicated chords or patterns. (I can forget bar chords altogether) I cannot really give you any intelligent sounding or musically technical explanation, other than to say... God inspired me to start playing again.. only this time, for His glory. He put the melody and the timing for His words in my heart... ('tabernacle' was a little tough to incorporate -lol) ... And so, I just did my best to pick it out as I heard it in my head and I sang it as best I knew how. I am glad you enjoyed it. @@faithloveandsunflowers Happy sabbath. Yes it’s certainly a beautiful place. I initially thought it was here in NZ because of all the green. Except for Tasmania which I assume is very green. Singing is interesting. It can be lifting especially if someone is what the Bible describes as a daughter of music. These are those who have a very lifted state of mind. And with their singing they can lift others. Women’s minds are slightly more lifted than men’s and hence this along with their womanhood facilitate men’s lives.
And because the singer with great unction sings with little or no self admiration the singing has a purity to it and is sweeter to the ear and more well received. Hence the melody of your sweet praise to God is very lovely. Was it Tasmania. 😊🍀💒

@@aaronarmstrongaa - the first half of the chapter is describing the Firmament God created on day 4 and how the sun moves above the earth, within that firmament, in a circuit, or circle. The Bible teaches the sun moves and the earth is stationary. The religion of the world, promoted by “modern science”, teaches the opposite of scripture. The world teaches the sun is stationary and the world moves around it. I believe the scriptural account over the modern science.

@@tmm0042 Every study made of water being level has always proved that fact. The great Lakes of North America, Seas between nations, Suez canal, even the 8 mile English canal. Always flat. There is a false science, like the one you are following. True science and the Bible speak against false science. In 2019 I woke up to this. I was deceived until then by all the lies most of us have been influenced with. I hope you come out of this also. I have the plainest flat earth verses you can get. There is only one true account of Creation. It was given by the creator Himself in Genesis 1. It is the Father Himself speaking that account. A lot of work has been put in to this. I don't care what anyone believes, everyone has a right to believe what they like. But the globe is a basic fact that is easily demonstrable. A flat earth is a physical impossibility based on what we believe. You need to look in to this because until then, spreading this flat Earth nonsense is hurting Christianity. The rest of the world are starting to think we are all stupid.
Christianity has hurt itself by rejecting God's word in favour of science falsely so called. Your own senses demonstrate to you that the sun moves and that the earth is stationary which is exactly what the Bible says.
