I love my Glycine Combat Sub.. the built quality and thin-ness of the watch are 2 factors that swayed me over. One of the best Bang for Buck Swiss Made watches.. period!
The bezel minute markers all align perfectly with the numerals on the dial. Rules it out for Seiko fans, who will not be happy and won't be interested in buying this watch.
I wanted a field watch and a dive watch. I couldn't chose which to get. So I got this. As a daily wearer this is just fantastic, and for me the best of both field and dive styles!
Of all the outside shots you took, I think this one takes the cake. Love the way the rain drops run down the face of the watch, the way the gloomy weather contrast with the orange on the dial, and the green bushes in the background in combination with this watch got me thinking of the american soldiers deployed in Vietnam. Thank you for another great review!
An FYI on this watch, the older models are based on the 25 jewel ETA 2824 while newest ones use the 26 jewel Sellita SW200. Obviously they're basically the same thing but some people do care about the difference. Just look for the difference in the jewel count to know which ebauche each Combat Sub model uses.
I just got a GL0083 Combat Sub. Very happy with it. It's got, I believe, a Selita SW200 movement, black dial with just the baton markers at the cardinal points and pips at the others. Newer wingless logo after the Emporio Armani lawsuit era 😅 fits awesome on my 8-8.5 inch wrist 😊
This was my first Swiss made automatic. Mine is also a post-Invicta, and they seem to be making a few subtle changes every year (mine has drilled lugs and a much more matte dial, etc). Overall, though, it's a fantastic "every day" watch.
A nicely done review! I like how loaner watches allow you to stretch out your review repertoire. Kudos to the kind soul that loaned you this watch, as it benefits all your subscribers. Hey! At that Costco price, you could get one every time they switched the model they offered - you could end up with the whole Combat Sub catalog, possibly!
Orange paint has been the traditional color for actual dive watches (Doxa/Seiko). For a long time people thought it would show up well under water in filtered light (sun or flashlight). It doesn't. A light teal blue does show up better. But, orange is the traditional color. Great review. Thanks!
Great price for a watch with ETA 2824. Maybe Glycine can inlude inflatable arm bands with this diver😁. The watch will last and last. Another great value watch from Jody☘
Be N S O N Jody did an unboxing of a Seiko Flightmaster recently. It looks really nice. Jody said he was going to do a full review of it soon, but has yet to get to making that video. I’m personally really looking closely at getting the Seiko Flightmaster myself. Here is a link to Jody’s unboxing. ruclips.net/video/3ieFkLKPMII/видео.html
Jody Claborn The Flightmaster would be perfect for me if that dial was *just* a little less busy. It still looks great but I feel like I’d get a little annoyed with all the detail after a while. It’s still currently a top-pick though.
I have a lot of chronograph from entry to high end..probably the best bang for the buck are alpina at grey prices..fit and finish is superb even compared to main steam watches at retail, grey is a steal and tons better vs my glycine combat chrono or microbrand crap. Baume/ball fit/finish quality > tag and Oris I own. Tool/aviator/space watch, Fortis is awesome and more accurate vs my Tudors, Rolexes, Breitling, even my JLC's/GO.
A very fair review. I basically agree. I have a few of these. They are really nice. I’m not sure, if the Combat Sub was actually ever used by any military, but I believe it’s supposed to be military inspired, hence the Combat in he name. So a case that is not super refined makes sense. The lume I believe is C1, so it does not last as C3 does. Probably the watch’s biggest weakness. Of course, it’s also an aluminum Bezel insert, no ceramic or sapphire. I have the GL0080, which is the Black PVD with the Black and red dial. Reminds me of 1980s sport cars and also KITT from Knight Rider.
Been on my radar a while, superb watches, I own a 36mm Combat 6 and its fantastic, the ETA 2824 in mine is accurate to 2/3 seconds a week, the build quality is excellent and the Invicta ownership makes no difference to the Glycine brand, they have been around over 100 years and are still made in the same factory in Switzerland, highly recommended.
Bought mine a few weeks back while browsing the watches at my local Costco. Pleasantly surprised to see Glycine in the case, and absolutely couldn't pass up the price! Love the slim profile.
It's a good looking watch. I recently purchased 2 Glycine Combat Subs. Within a few weeks of ownership, the both had teeth go off the ratchet wheel in the movement. I wasn't overly impressed by that.
Hi mate! So i got my 3rd and final chinese special today. The loreo yachtona in light blue. I'm glad I saw your video. Super happy jody. Thanks. Your channel is #1 by far. I can't wait for your next top 10 Ali Express special video. You are truly the most awesome watch guru. Gustavo from San Diego california. Your friend.
Very fun review! Looking forward to the Seiko Flightmaster review! You did a great job teasing it a few weeks ago with the Tissot unboxing. Oh the suspense!
Bought an identical dialed one from drop a few months ago (rubber strap though). It did however have drilled lugs which they appear to have reintroduced - great upgrade as they did initially drop them when Invicta took over. Great review.
Have to admit that your review has me considering locating a Combat Sub. I currently do own a Combat 7 Vintage that I really like. I picked it up on Jomashop for under $320.
Interesting, I have this same watch and model and my lume lasts all night. Maybe you are not giving it a good long blast of light. Maybe because I use an ultraviolet light flashlight to prime mine up. Anyway, I agree with everything else you've stated. I have much more costly watches but for some crazy reason this watch stays on my wrist! The only thing that would make this watch better, and I know this is just me, is a day/date rather than just day complication. I am super excited about the brand new (as of Oct 2019) bronze versions. They have a completly redesigned dial. I hope you review them once they are released.
Definitely beats my Squale Militaire with the regulation. I think my that Squale is about +15 sec./day. After watch collecting for a couple years I figured out what I really like, and I went with higher priced automatics like the Oris Aquis, Sinn 104, Seiko SBDC109 Willard and a Stowa Flieger. They all pretty much run less than + or - 5 sec./day. But I still think you can't go wrong with a Glycine Combat Sub. I'd wear one with pride, and I've been tempted with one in particular with a red and gold triangle on the bezel. Apparently Glycines were popular with the U.S. military, but when I was in the Marines, no watch ever survived more than a couple months. I had more sense than to wear something expensive. Maybe these guys were officers or something?
Great video Jody! My Costco had a blue dial & bezel model at 299.00, should have picked it up last week but going back today and if it's still available think I'll pick it up..
Orange hands and chapter ring... I think you'd get sick of that after a while... I prefer the Glycine model 3908.196.N1.MB Combat Sub. But for Glycine overall, I actually prefer Glycine Airman DC-4, or Combat Vintage GL0122 (military dial).
I have the all stealth pre-invicta (old logo) combat sub and love the thing. Lume is black / dark grey so there's no need to thi k of it at all and the overall look is amazing and tacticool
Awesome as always Jody! Would you mind doing a review of the Glycine triple 12 Quartz? It’s definitely a affordable and fun Glycine imo I really enjoy mine but most people don’t know they exist:( just a thought hope all is well and thank you for all the videos!
Great Video as well as great watch. I know what I saying , because I bought myself a Glycine Airman from Drop and it's my favourite watch in collection.
Great review Jody! Have this watch. Love it! Excellent quality for the price. Get many complements and keeps accurate time. Definitely take one of these over two Badgers!
Great review as usual,Glycine make a bloody good watch..I've got a PVD Incursore with a 6497 in it & it's a fantastic watch....Spot on review, your channel is completely charming so keep at it!!
I had one a few years back, sold it because it's too big. Owned an Airman Base 22, also soldi it because of long lungs. Now i own an Airman 18, which is 39mm, and should be a perfect size for almost any mainstream watch.
Howdy Jody! Really like the colors on this one, nice looking watch. And as a brazilian myself I dig the t-shirt! ps: although I played a lot of Mortal Kombat, I was more of a Street Fighter 2 fan myself, lol! cheers
At 40mm it would be a World Champion🤩 This piece also does really well on single and double pass nato style straps, with it’s thin profile and drilled lugs. BTW- Bronze version has 160 click bezel with nice raised indices and superior lume!
I got the bronze version with a gradient brown dial from Massdrop less than a year ago and it has a 120 click bezel. I actually wish it was 60 click as I knew the older ones were. Love it to bits though, especially on an elastic MN style strap. Looks the business. Enough even for the wife to compliment me on it 👌🏼
@@JustOneMoreWatch I would love to hear your opinion of the Glycine GL1006/GL1007. Great deal for 139.00$. I picked up one from ashford and am very happy
Hahaha...back when I took my SCUBA course, we had to float for 20 minutes, tread water for 10 minutes, then tread water with our hands out of the water for 5 minutes (while passing a ball around) - with no breaks/rest in between. Since I float about as well as a lead weight, I had to tread water for 35 minutes straight....this was after the 300 yard swim and the underwater swim test. Good times.
I picked up the Costco Combat Sub a couple of weeks ago. When my Dad saw it, he decided that he wanted one too, lol. In the warehouse, the watch goes for $289.99 - unbelievably inexpensive for a Swiss made dive watch, on a bracelet no less. Oddly, mine seems to be a little older, possibly a pre-Invicta model. It has the old logo. You don’t have to be a member to buy one from the website, but if you aren’t a member there is a 5% surcharge. The watch itself is fairly solidly built and super thin for a watch with the water resistance rating that it has.
Point to look out for is that older ones have drilled lugs. Regarding the logo : there's recently been a trademark dispute between Glycine and Armani, who objected to the winged logo and to "Airman" being too close to "Armani" (WTF ?). The parties signed an agreement earlier this year, without discolsing its terms, but it looks, from the new models glycine released, that they are reverting to the old non-winged crown logo. This might also be the reason why those currently are available in numbers at such bargain prices, i.e. that it could be that Glycine are off-loading stock bearing the winged logo.
£630 in the UK... A tad expensive methinks. They are available in 42mm, 48mm, stainless steel or bronze though, for those of you not living in Ripoffsville. Just checked another UK store... Jura watches are wanting between £825 and £900 depending on strap n case metal.
I've often looked at this when it's been on Drop, but I suspect that 50mm lug-to-lug would be too large for my 6.5" wrist. Any other small-wristed guys have any experience wearing this?
The largest I can comfortably go is 43/44 width. To put it in perspective I am within 2 - 5 holes all the way to the right on most watch bands (5 being loose. 2 to 3 being average for me). Might i suggest a baby tuna if you are looking for a dive watch? It truly does wear much smaller than its case size suggests and if you remove the shroud it goes down to 40mm with maybe a 43mm lug to lug (without effecting the water resistance). I wear it sheoudless when I am doing social events and with shroud when working or doing rougher activities. My other goto watch is the citizen tough (a little large on my wrist but the thin-ness makes up for it).
I love my Glycine Combat Sub.. the built quality and thin-ness of the watch are 2 factors that swayed me over. One of the best Bang for Buck Swiss Made watches.. period!
acethis No nonsense- built like tanks!
The bezel minute markers all align perfectly with the numerals on the dial. Rules it out for Seiko fans, who will not be happy and won't be interested in buying this watch.
$289!!!! Yes on your recommendation I went to Costco here in the US and picked one up!! Couldn’t be happier!
I have a Glycine ... very underrated for the price ... 2824 200m diver that is very thin ...... I like it a lot
pablo rages Strong piece!
Rolex submariner is a glycine homage. Worth to mention.
Wouldn't say it's a submariner homage. Definitely its own watch.
daniel hoey He said the the opposite... and it is not a submariner homage, agreed. Does Rolex always have to get the credit for EVERYTHING?
@@willardhooton920 thanks
I did manage to get the Costco version in the store for $289 . It is a great watch and great slim height.
Eric Sherer You’ll never get a better retail watch deal, enjoy it!

Bringing back the arcade memories, thanks Jody.
It have a Glycine Combat 6 small face, a great watch from an underrated manufacturer
steven aston Sweet little understated piece!
You've mixed my two favorite things in this video. Video games and watches. Kudos to you, Sir! Liked.
I love the retro font for the numerals on the dial, looks a bit of a nod to the WW2 ATP's and Dirty Dozens.
This was my first Swiss made automatic. Mine is also a post-Invicta, and they seem to be making a few subtle changes every year (mine has drilled lugs and a much more matte dial, etc). Overall, though, it's a fantastic "every day" watch.

I have the older much smaller version. Same orange hands, black dial, way cooler bezel. Love it to bits. Nice brand for the money.
Jody you should take a look at the bronze combat subs! They have 120 click bezels, applied indices, and tons more lume!
The long lug to lug is ok if it's following a curve.
If curved lugs reach the sides of your wrist, lug to lug will be 60mm
I own 3 of them. Love them.

SubCapt Good call. Mine does not have the drilled lugs....must be new then. That’s fine with me.
Thumbs up for the intro alone!
