  • A long time ago, Rua Hatu, the god of the sea, gave Polynesia a wonderful treasure : gold and silver colored fish.
Once, a man who had nothing, not even enough to feed his family, was on the verge of total despair. He then remembered the traps he had inherited from his ancestors : old traps made of stone, too old to be of any use. He looked at all the traps and saw waves of gold and silver colors. There were a hundred fish caught in the traps.
He understood Rua Hatu’s message and went to tell everyone that no man must ever destroy the traps, because they could save man from famine.
Today, in Huahiné, in the Société archipelago, six traps are still active. Only three families continue to use them.

Great content! You should note the production year in your documentaries ( you seem to always ignore this important information). This one is from 1999
