    GREAT-BRITAIN
Balena, a leader in material science, collaborates with modular 3D fashion designer, Variable Seams, to pioneer groundbreaking 3D-printed compostable textile garments. On-demand creation of 3D printing textiles minimizes waste and overproduction by empowering consumers to repair and customize their garments. With this project, we address circularity on multiple fronts.
Variable Seams focuses on designing 3D-printed fabric modules with disassembly in mind for ease of repair and recycling. Leveraging Balena's FlexTex3D technology for additive manufacturing of wearable fabrics, powered by proprietary BioCir®️flex3D biobased, compostable, and recyclable thermoplastic elastomer material. Balena's FlexTex3D technology supported Variable Seam's creative vision. Fabrics made with this filament are ready-to-wear, durable, flexible and stretchy! The material decomposes and degrades at the end of its life cycle, ensuring minimal environmental impact and completing the circular loop.
Jurystatement: „This project adresses an industry very much in need of more sustainable options- Fashion. The design captivates with its beautiful details, shapes, and versatile variations. It is transitioning seamlessly from haute couture to practical daily wear, while highlighting the delicate and exquisite potential of AM.“
