Wow.

@@fvecc ok call it a draw
errol kim LOL, deal. Your point is still valid. Amazing the line was penned by a 19 year old.
@@fvecc Yes it is, amazing. Somebody should tell Greta Thunberg about what a real "stolen future" looks like. White Privilege indeed. The Kennedys were one of the richest families in the USA. Jack got his back broken in The Solomons in 1943 and his brother flew missions with the 110th and died in an accident over England. Our shared history makes a mockery of the "Wokeness" of todays "Youth". Peace.
How can anyone unlike this speech? This was the first Presidential speech I ever paid any attention to as a child.

just because you like something doesn't mean others do
@Koyrion You don’t like uniting the people????
They didn't. Its just Australians trying to Like it.
This is how a president brings a wounded and hurting nation together
I don’t want to imagine how trump would have handled this.
The first thing i think of about this speech is RONALD RAYGUN, i play to much COD Zombies.
@@iamsharky_5606 You mean Ronald Reagan?
@@justsomedudeonyoutube1541 I had to look up the COD reference to that name, but I do remember the term Ronald Ray-gun being used in the ‘80s by people who were against Ronald Reagan’s Strategic Defense Initiative which planned to use powerful lasers and rocket to shoot incoming ICBM’s out of the air. The program was nicknamed “Star Wars”.
@@GeorgiaKev Oh boy, he would have probably blamed someone else, possible claiming that China sabotaged it
Regardless of your politics, this man could speak.
This speech is leadership.
Idk Obama is probably the best speaker as a president.
@@typerdue3057 i wont argue it. But can you give an example here of a memorable speech he gave?
@@typerdue3057 no
@@typerdue3057 Obama is a good speaker but he had nothing substantial to say after he became President.
Honestly, I don't know what everybody is raving about, I felt like he's racing past the speech, no contemplative pauses at all, making it feel contrived. I can easily see old W. or even Obama give a much better speech than this. I'd rate this speech a 5/10.
Only Reagan could deliver a heart-breaking eulogy and never shed a tear. He had an inner strength few have ever displayed in public.
I'm sure knowing this might have helped, ruclips.net/video/uqcd_3daPQ8/видео.html
"I want to say something to the school children of America, who were watching the shuttle's live takeoff..."
I was one of those children. I'll be 40 in six months. Thank you, President Reagan. And Godspeed to the crew of the Challenger.

Obama was a terrible president, Trump was a terrible president and so far Kamal.... I mean, Biden is worst than those two together.
I remember seeing part of this speech on the walls of the Kennedy space centre "This Future doesn't belong to the faint hearted, it belongs to the brave". Really inspiring words, during such a dare time.
How did he not breakdown into tears? What a speech. Just amazing
This speech always gets me emotional, such a great communicator
Humble and to the point.
That powerful last line, he’s adapted from a poem by Magee:
Oh! I have slipped the surly bonds of earth,
And danced the skies on laughter-silvered wings;
Sunward I've climbed, and joined the tumbling mirth
Of sun-split clouds, --and done a hundred things
You have not dreamed of --Wheeled and soared and swung
High in the sunlit silence. Hov'ring there
I've chased the shouting wind along, and flung
My eager craft through footless halls of air...
Up, up the long, delirious, burning blue
I've topped the wind-swept heights with easy grace
Where never lark or even eagle flew --
And, while with silent lifting mind I've trod
The high untrespassed sanctity of space,
Put out my hand, and touched the face of God.
Such a true gentleman. To speak directly to the school children and the employees who worked tirelessly on the program is a perfect example of how a leader should be. RIP to the lives lost. And to a wonderful president
Rip reagan the brave hero potus.♥️🇺🇸
wow... he was a good speaker...
I was raised in a pretty liberal household, and I have plenty to say on subjects such as Reaganomics and the War on Drugs (my dad has plenty more to say). This speech proves that being president is about more than policy, more than championing the ideals of one party or another. Being the president is about being a leader, and bringing the country together during times of hardship. Whatever my disagreements might be with the way he ran things, I cannot deny that Reagan did that very well, certainly better than many who claim to represent his party in 2020.
Would you mind informing what the "War on Drugs" was about? Also, I do know his Reaganomics helped Americans create and fill 19 million new jobs in the private sector. The issue regarding the deficit had more to do with Government spending, rather than his tax cuts and change in tax laws/regulation.
@@dvchel he heavily escalated war on drugs which led to mass incarceration of black and brown men and continues to do so today. Not only this but his Iran contra affair was a joke. Not to mention that he was a racist and that how he ignored aids
I was in 5th grade when this happened.
When Reagan have that speech, Democrats and Republicans listened silently.
Everyone across the political spectrum was blindsided by that horrible event that morning.
But that evening, Reagan spoke to us, assuring everyone that despite what happened, we would get back up, and get back to work and moving forward.
On that occasion, he was everyone's President. Even his staunchest critics for that moment had respect and admiration for this man.
This was when America had a REAL President!
And there it is.......All was going well to the end until your vanity creeped out....."certainly better than many who claim to represent his party in 2020". In the back of your mind, you had to so gently twist the knife undoing everything written prior. Good job. 👍 If you go around always thinking you are right, eventually there's no one left to lecture too.
@@Timbrock1000 to be honest, he was our last real President. I was in 9th grade and home from school as it was a snow day in Tennessee with roads being icy. In Florida, at launch time, it was 11:38 a.m. and temperatures had risen to 36 degrees.
When Reagan was first elected the media mocked him, his political enemies ridiculed him. It didn't take long for the World to realise Ronald Reagan was going to be one of the Greats. He was and remains one of the very best President's of the United States. As for this speech, it must be one of his best. Whatever your politics Reagan was a Leader, an inspiration, honest and true.
Mom still hates Reagan. Making him a better president already.
@Watching You I was wondering, who were Reagan's political enemies, were they Republicans, and why and what for did they ridicule him?
I am not sure why the media mocked him either if true.
He had such.comforting words
I was 29 years old when this happened, working as an Office Typist. The Vice President called all the employees together and told us what happened. January 28, 1986. I still remember this speech and when Ron and Nancy met the victims' families. And then TV started asking Americans to donate money to the children, I think it was "19 children who have lost a parent".
Rustina, you are about my age, I was born in 56, so I was 30, I remember it well. Seeing it after I went to the supermarket, coming back home seeing it on TV, it was shocking.
This is the reason he will always be known as the great communicator. His words carried such emotion and spoken so eloquently.
Watched this live I'll never forget.
Don't care what your political allegiance is. It takes a sad hearted human to downvote words of comfort for the nation and the family of those who we lost that day.
Thiss happened back before president bashing. First it was clintton, then barak. Hoo both were charismatic. I do remember some bashing Dan quail whoo is ver hot and gorgeous
@@looktojesus4774 Wasn't there some big thing about him spelling something wrong?
Completely agree. I am a Australian & i don't understand the way your country treats your leaders. You vote them in& then rubbish them. In Australia we have a similar problem "The tall poppy syndrome." Never understand why people are nasty but to criticize a President when he is giving a wonderful speech (Most likely written by another person) is cruel & unnecessary. Certainly been a Actor wouldn't have harmed the delivery of the speech.
the rea issue isactually attacking America. Obama represents America. u attack ur in essence attacking country. in other countries we learn about villians like sodomy Hussein.U see him and r told he steals land, blows up oil fields and kills his own pepoel. Obama did not evil. some just claim he is a dictato He does not even sound like a dictator. He sounds like a nice man from Chicago with an average family and average lawyer backrund
@@looktojesus4774 I have to disagree with the Obama did no evil part. Just because they seem well spoken and charismatic doesn't prove how they are behind the scenes. From dropping an incredible amount of bombs and expanding the use of drones, to increasing crackdowns on whistleblowers, to ramping up government surveillance, he was no innocent. Wolf in sheeps clothing is fitting.
A brilliant speech from a genuine president at a very sad time…🇬🇧🇺🇸
As an elementary school student I didn't have knowledge of the space program. It was unfathomable having just watched that they'd ever attempt to try this again.
This speech was the most elegant thing I had ever heard and gave me the sense the grown ups really knew what they were doing.
As someone left-leaning who was too young to recall when Reagan was in office, I had a very negative opinion of him. While I still hold that opinion about many of his policies, this video single-handedly changed my opinion of the man. Much like how W did via bullhorn on Ground Zero, Reagan sent the exact message that a grieving country needed to hear. Politics aside, he was a good person and a good leader.
Remember the Challenger 7 this Memorial Day. They gave their lives for their country just as much as all the military casualties of war did.
A great end to an amazing speech. He was truly one of the best presidents we’ve had. Now, quoting him, he too has “slipped the surly bonds of earth, to touch the face of God.”
And unfortunately Traitor Trump was the worst. Boy oh boy the GOP has become the party of lie's, deceit, racists, shameless, moraless, lowlife DEPLORABLE utter gutter rabbid scum. Utterly DISGUSTING and DISGRACEFUL.

True leadership is finding the right words to fit a tragedy, sift from the tears, hope and determination to forge ahead. This was Reagan, and there will be no other like him again.
Another illustration of how Reagan loved this country, and its people. I knew individuals who worked for him during his presidency. He was always a gentleman.
I know that Reagan did a good thing here. I was not a Reagan supporter; but, I know his particular brand of gravitas was important at this moment in history. Watch the Netflix documentary on the Challenger. There’s a five second cut of the video from this speech in the opening credits. You don’t hear Reagan speaking. The way they present it has a gripping effect that conveys pain and distress and perhaps depreciates the gravitas. You have to see it .

Reagan was a great leader because he had little ego. His strength and confidence was invested in the country, not himself. Seems like people back then were not so self obsessed like they are now.
John Gillespie Magee Jr. (9 June 1922 - 11 December 1941)[1][2][3] was a World War II Anglo-American Royal Canadian Air Force fighter pilot and poet, who wrote the poem High Flight. He was killed in an accidental mid-air collision over England in 1941.

I watched and called my mom who was home w/ me that day (sick) and said "something just happened - explosion!" I remember vividly watching on what we now call NASA TV........... "obviously, a major malfunction"

He had minimal time to practice this speech but it came off so naturally and from the heart. Inspiring stuff
The more your practice, the less natural it will appear. It's the pauses and processing of the message that is natural.

I remember that day all too well. Science succumbed to politics. The experts called the lift off a no-go, but Reagan wanted the shuttle to launch with its first ordinary citizen in space on the day of his State of The Union address.
