I don't think he's underrated. Actually well below average. Any average heavy metal guitarist from the 80s will run circles round him. He was fortunate to have Steve carry him through the 80s period. It's actually embarrassing seeing him on the same stage as Viv Campbell
@@stonecold9132 He's a much better player than most. Much more musical and a master of melodic solos and a great rhythm player as well. I was a shredder in the very competitive L.A. scene in the 80s, sharing the bill with bands like Racer X. I was up there. I think Phil is an overall better guitar player than most of these cats. Is he a great alternate picker like Phil Gilbert or Al Di Meola? No. But as a very good rock player he deserves a lot of respect. He's a solid player. I'd rather listen to Phil play for two hours than hear Yngwie for five minutes.
Kudos to you for not being stuck on just one type of metal.I'm exactly the same way.I don't see what's wrong with liking Megadeth AND Def Leppard!!!! Two of my personal favorites!!!!!
@abysslord16 It's supposed to be a Jackson sustainer, itäs their own model. So it's not Fernandes nor Sustainiac. At least that's what they say on the specs. But if you want to buy one Fernandes or Sustainiac makes those, and they one extra sustain mode, three in total. That one in the video has only two.
It was a PC-1 for sale on pawn stars, they made 30 of them, for the 30th anniversary of Jackson PC-1, he spent 9 months going to the Jackson factory to make them, the one he is playing right now, is the PC-1 artist approved #1, the one sold on pawn stars, was a Jackson PC-1 artist approved #3 (you're welcome)
@Jamcad01 I can't tell if you're saying that Dio was hair metal, but Vivian's work with Dio already shows that he is a better guitarist. And that was when he was young in the first place! Viv was ripping before Collen even dreamed of playing that type of stuff. Granted I do think Viv is a tool, but a better guitarist tool..
@triviumgibson I'm afraid thet it might look almost exactly like the Ibanez. Maybe a different color but Dimarzio D-Activators, no inlays, Floyd Rose and the same knobs: volume, killswitch and p/u selector.
@TheSsdylan You may have missed the 'of all time' thing. There have been about 107,602,707,791 humans born in the history of our species. When ranked Phil comes in at 25,589,521,369th. Andre Yarmovski from Lithuania is #1 but his story has been largely lost due to his lack of eyebrows
@BUFFW it's true about the fat neck i play a thicker necked strat and it shakes really hard. moves the wholebody . of course it feels weird to normal hands though
He s not underrated... Damn he play with Def Leppard... The only band with Motley Crue that still rocks a looooot.... Being the lead guitarist of Def Leppard is such a big honor... Def Leppard is a band... Not singular players 🎸🤘🙏
The neck on the PC1 is only .825 of an inch at the 1st fret. You can get replacement necks from Warmoth and other companies that are very well made, that are called the "Fatback" contour. It is 1" inch thick from the nut, all the way down the entire neck. Now THAT'S a BASEBALL feel kind of neck. I love Phil Collen, and his ability. But I just wanted to put it into perspective that that is not that thick of a neck. It just sounds weird to say that it's "the biggest neck Jackson has ever made! I am 6' 4" with huge hands, and I play the Fatback neck.
Warmoth have stated that they do not make replacement necks to fit Jackson guitars,probably because they are tooled to do replacement necks for fender type necks not the wider at the body end necks of Charvel/ Jackson guitars.
Actually Phil isn't underrated or overrated, in fact he isn't rated at all, but the band is. Phil is as famous as the band he plays in. Def Leppard is/was about the band as a unit and that being the key to their success, not about having the most technical musicians and being famous because of that - because that only works for individual musicians. So taking this into consideration, the idea of Phil being overrated is entirely fabricated by rock fanatics who most likely obsess over shredding.
Vivian Campbell as a lead guitarist is technically better, or at least appears to be with his memorable DIO work. But what exactly has that got to do with being a great (all round) musician? A guitar player can not be rated highly in regard to one aspect, if he fails in other areas. Also, his choice to join Def Leppard - during a time (early 90s) when metal was dying out, might have something to do with wanting an easy ride, being paid well and getting laid - a lot.
The guitar is pretty damn cool, but I' like it more if the headstock was turned around. The dude's earring is kind of annoying also, but if that's what he likes.... It's his choice.
@mgdth502 I don't know a whole lot either..and I'll give him that he's a good songwriter, but as a guitarist I think Vivian blows him away. Not for the Whitesnake stuff though, for his work with Dio.
well saw them live yesterday and i have to say that in leppard collin kinda is the faster player (at least when playing a solo) vivian kinda take it slow for the most time...... gotta say that phil might have been a little more entertaining to watch acually...
This guy is such an underrated guitar player
Grant Codron I agree 100% he’s also the one guy who admits he uses 13 gauge strings tuned to Eb on all his guitars and uses metal picks
I don't think he's underrated. Actually well below average. Any average heavy metal guitarist from the 80s will run circles round him. He was fortunate to have Steve carry him through the 80s period. It's actually embarrassing seeing him on the same stage as Viv Campbell

this is probably one of the coolest guitars ever
I NEED THAT GUITAR!
love his tone!
The splattered paint job is reminiscent of the pyromania album cover you rock phil
Grover Jackson used to work for Charvel guitars, left in the early 80's and has been making guitars ever since.
Hell, that's a cool guitar :D!
Japanese Guy confirms...it does say Phil.
Where does he show how to play "Hysteria" "Photograph" and "Fooling"?
Kenyon Denning a different video
@abysslord16

dimarzion super distortion, floyd rose, sustainer and ebony fret board.
yep that sure does sound like a strat
Why did it say featuring songs when there was very little playing at all? Anyway,I dig the snakeprint one he used on Hysteria.
@mgdth502
Actually Phil wasn't there until Pyromania. Pete Willis was the original Guitarist.
@sixxthunderbird RIGHT??? Tell me when it's uploaded
loved how it looked like but does the sustanier run on battery????
Isn't this the same guitar that was up on sale on Pawn Stars?
Van Halen There are 30 of them, each one a little different :)
On on Pawn Stars was PC3
Paco... You've got to be fucking kidding me...

@synchroflip123 Yeah. It runs on a 9v battery. Just like an active pickup
i wish he played that awesome on def leppards albums >.>
And people say "all the famous rock stars start at a really early age"... Look at Phil started at 16 and he kicks ass..
hey guitar world, have you ever heard of the bass guitar
love that Andy Warhol shirt! Phil Collen is an underrated guitar player!
@kdenn71 You have to go to the guitarworld website.
@mgdth502 Is John Sykes part of the current line-up?
@triviumgibson

nice guitar, but i totally disagree with the fat neck. i like thin
@DarknessOverFlow cause he the guitarist for Def Leppard your thinking of Phil Collins
I love it! Maybe id get it if it dint have PHIL on it
i love that sound

And what’s your rank sir
Why doesn't he play "In The Air Tonight" ?
That guitar costs a fucking fortune :O
What is the website or link for that sustainer pick up ??? :)
sounds good

@TheGeorgeBelanger Thanks!!!
@XImaleXI Because Jackson and Charvel are practically the same company.
Como se llama la canción que sonó al comienzo?
Nice axe. I love that paint job.
@Jamcad01 I'll have a video up soon.
@abysslord16 You can get one called a Fernandes Sustainer.
I just bought a PC1.
whats the sustainer pick up called?
The white paint fucks it up.
I think it's the coolest part
@sixxthunderbird
Nope thats Vivian Campbell
i bet i could play some wild animal (Steve Vai) music with this one! i also love the finish, it would also fit Animal music... ;D

@synchroflip123 yeah they do
@Stonyman65 oh, never heard of that, thx

bad ass guitar!
what was the opening song? sounded cool? i know def leppard but im not familiar with their songs XD not that of a big fan
I wonder what an X2N would sound like on it.
The basic model has it as standard. I think he said somewhere that it makes the guitar sound good live without too much tweeks.
Rizka wibowo i totally agree

The guitar is pretty damn cool, but I' like it more if the headstock was turned around. The dude's earring is kind of annoying also, but if that's what he likes.... It's his choice.
@TheSsdylan
I am talking about all time humans not currently alive humans.
Why 1 fret marking?
Callum James It is a signature Phil Collen gutair look :)
Where is the how to play?
CCYFXVIDEOS you'll have to search up the guitar lesson version of this
No, that says "Phuil"
man, there are a LOT of trolls in youtube, espacially in the guitar world channel
@sportsportsport says some dude on youtube.
@Kyle1337ful wow...
what is write in japanese
@sixxthunderbird Your only saying Viv's better because no one takes hair metal seriously. (Viv was in Dio, Whitesnake etc)
@mgdth502 I don't know a whole lot either..and I'll give him that he's a good songwriter, but as a guitarist I think Vivian blows him away. Not for the Whitesnake stuff though, for his work with Dio.

You haven’t seen Vivian in his dio days then!
@Magiffin maybe he wants to be a pirate when he grows up ?
the neck pickp sounded absolutely NOTHING like a strat
not if i post a comment
The problem is the fact it has 24 frets and not 22 so it' impossible to get that strat tone when the pickup is moved down.
my les paul sustains longer without a sustainer
dang enough with the lacquer!! we get it!
i’ll give you a kiss for one of those splatters
