Notice how it gives him the feel to use his hips and body correctly through impact. I agree, it is really challenging to make that move if you are used to flipping at the ball. Seems impossible really. It really won't hit your belly if you clear properly in your swing. I can see it grazing your backside with a faster swing, but that is your backside not your belly. Cheers.
