I thought the movie was just kind of OK, but it's still amazing to see and hear how much work and effort was actually put into it. I've always been a big fan of practical effects, so seeing how everything was made, is always super interesting.
Kneefoil This. The movie really was just kind of okay. It let me down because of the fact I waited so damn long to watch it. It's fine though, I'm not gonna be all butthurt about it.
This is the thing I love about practical effects: they have a story behind them. How the effects were achieved is as fascinating and entertaining as the film itself.
I don't get all the hate for the movie. I thought it was really refreshing. The visual effects have that Cinemassacre charm, but are also impressively practical. The story was very well told, and always kept moving forward. I could tell that a lot of hard work and dedication was put into making the movie, and I hope it inspires up and coming filmmakers to tell the stories they want to tell without Hollywood getting their fingerprints all over them.
SuperSmash3DS They were expecting something flawless and Hollywood level of style... bullshit. I enjoyed the movie, and had no hesitation about spending £30 or so on the Blu-ray. Is it one of the best movies out there? No. Not a long shot. But it's still an enjoyable movie
It was alright. The problem for me was that I could care less about 2 new characters. It should have been Mike or Kyle. Someone fans recognize. I would probably never have the urge to watch it again. Been keeping up with avgn since the early, early reviews...but this film simply did nothing for me. The ET review at the end was the best part for me. Still love the new reviews and the Board James plot right now is fucking excellent. Also anything where James and Mike talk about old games or old films.
CDWatk I disagree, it was completely the opposite to what I was expecting. The movie had none of the charm and humour of the series and was over ambitious. It was disjointed and there was way too many ideas but most importantly it wasn't that funny. If it was funny you could forgive most of its failings. I look forward to any new film James has in mind, now that he's learned so much about the mechanics of film making he could concentrate on a better script. Im not saying the film was bad, it was just really average. James has to be commended for he's work ethic and ambition.
It makes me happy to know that James got to shoot the movie that he always wanted to. He's put in a lot of work to get to this point, and if anyone deserves it, he does.
James, being the humble man that he is, forgot to mention that the miniatures were all filmed in a warehouse in the middle of the winter, with no heat. Everyone on set was such a trooper on this labor of love. It really turned out great, thanks again for having us!
I really found this fascinating! I'm not really into any sort of film making but I do enjoy seeing how practical effects and a touch of digital magic can really make some great visuals.
This was a fantastic film and a love letter to all fans... I can't believe that there are people who, after seeing all the hard work that went into it, are still saying the film was bad... It was excellent!
Wow, thanks for the look behind the scenes! You guys made one helluva movie and I had almost as much fun watching this as I did the film itself. You guys have come a long way since college and it is so damn cool that you have all remained friends and got to make this awesome movie together!
I've made movies on tight budgets with both practical and digital effects, and trust me, its no walk in the park. This is an extremely ambitious production and the effort put in by everyone involved is incredibly inspiring. I love these behind the scenes footages and James appreciation and respect for classic film production practices are a joy to watch.
I can't believe they put so much work into the movie. I actually can't believe it because I was extremely high on cough syrup throughout the whole thing and remember nothing other than the wacky comedy relief black sidekick.
I feel like James Rolfe could be like an Adam Sandler kind of guy. Not out to make anything groundbreaking or critically-acclaimed but just have fun making rich kid's school project films with his friends and get some laughs out of people, only James Rolfe would probably add more substance with his films.
As a fully trained model maker and special effects artist this warms my heart listening to how much love and affection you have for the practical arts James 😊
IMO, the Movie was pretty good, but not as great as I expected it to be. I don't think the final Review of E.T for Atari was what anyone expected, seems as though people hyped up for it being the worst game ever made but the review actually praised it for the most part hahaha
1 year anniversary huh? Wow, I think I might watch it again. I'm really not sure what people were expecting with a AVGN movie, I find it hard to believe that anyone that was disappointed with the AVGN movie have even watched more that 3 episodes of the show. It was such a great tribute to the old style of visual effects, this is a type of movie you wont see ever again in the future. So I guess have fun with your transformers visual diarrhea movies if you didn't like it
I thought the movie was awesome! Sure, it wasn't perfect. But they all did an amazing job considering. Good stuff. AVGN and all his friends are the shit! Thank you all for the hours and hours of entertainment!
This movie see,m to have a mixed opinion, I for one watch CineMassacure films for the enjoyment, this movie got the classic feel of the types of movies James makes. For those of you who don't know James loves making movies and always has this was his dream and should inspire most people to get to do what they want to do and I felt like this documentary got the feel of that, this movie may not win awards for best motion picture but it sure as hell is original classic and I will watch it again and again and again, thank you James and others for this great movie!
That was more interesting that the film. I really like AVGN but it was misplaced to use it in this way. I get all the special effects and b-movie love, I like it myself. But the problem for me was the cast and story, it gave us a bunch of characters outside of the nerd that we didn't give a shit about. It took me 5 attempts to watch the film all the way through it really did bore me to tears.
For me, watching this movie reminded me of all my childhood dreams of making big Hollywood blockbuster movies with my friends. James' ambitions were what made this movie fantastic. Like it or not, you have to admit that the film is a perfect example of how far you can go by holding on to the "silly" dreams we all used to have.
RandomNPC15 not entirely, most of the time when you judge something its a mix of subjectivity and objectivity. and when i judge something in terms of if someone else would like it i look at it completely objective (or at least as much as possible) and how i see it, objectively the avgn movie is a ok/average movie
Not that I've ever tried to make a film, but... fucking wow. It makes me just want to put it back on, just to justify their effort. When the nature of your work, becomes play. Well done to you all!
I see all these comments filled with hate and shit. But I gotta say, that this is one of the best low-budget movies I've ever seen. James is really talented person and I just know it, he'll make it to the big scene someday. He puts a lot of effort in his productions, that's why it takes so much time to make a new AVGN episode. It's not like sitting down and making a let's play. I'm looking forward to new episodes, James. NerdFist.
GREAT JOB! Just great, we all know tat the current effects are awesome, but making the entire movie this way is just awesome as well, i love these kind of effects. You have even more deeper respect from me now!
Love the movie from day one but surprised at how much went into it and how long it took. Glad to see the behind the scenes. It's my campy guilty pleasure.
Oh yes! Finally someone who gets it. I really, really miss the old days of cinema. I remember the incredibly detailed and so impossibly well done miniature and even puppeteer work the Andersons did for Thunderbirds or later their Real Life work on UFO and Space 1999. So awesome miniatures and model work. Still looks awesome when you look at it today, it really aged very, very well. Way, way better than any CGI of today. Yes, CGI is good and we're at the point where it's more real than real. But knowing that a lot of really talented sculptors and modelers worked to create a wonderful illusion, seeing someone really pull something off that looks awesome and back in your head you KNOW that it's a miniature but they manage to make it look so real and believable... this is awe inspiring. Yes, it is actually way, way more impressive than CGI could ever be. Because it's pretty easy to do in CGI. I should know, I do it. But I honestly admire people who can do it with miniatures. This is where the real art is.
I just want James and everyone involved in the AVGN movie to know that I watched this movie for the 3rd time tonight and I really think its amazing.. all the hard work .. for the real fans that have followed him over the years.. It definitely hit a soft spot for me.. LOVE YA NERD!
+Ryan Geidl btw I also submitted a cover song of the AVGN theme song and James actually replayed to my email saying "nice production quality" that kind of 1/3 completed my life.. even though he has never used it.

It is really inspiring how much effort love and soul went to this production! I have to say I am on the side which thinks the movie is not as good as everyone expected it to be, that especially sad seeing how hard they worked on this, I can't ignore the problems the movie has but still appreciate people who really tried making a good Movie for the Fans, this is by no means and no one can tell me that a "Bad" Movie but it is still not enough the reach the realms of a "good" movie, but I am looking forward, none of us could do such a great production in this scale I think James and the others will grow throughout this and maybe we see another big movie from James, doesn't even have to be AVGN since I think it would be better for him having a break from that and focus on something else maybe, but that's just my humble opinion, I hope many if you enjoyed the movie
Whoa! Did you see that. XD Watching this movie gave such appreciation to practical effects, it was 1 of my favorite movies of 2014. ***** i didn't say i can. i said james could have. instead he went the pc route by hiring a girl gamer, black token guy, and doing a b action film instead of just being an angry gamer who experiences what we did as kids. he screwed up bigtime. worst part is he added insult to injury by not having mike or guitar guy in the film. that's a real big diss.
Well, at least you guys had fun.
Lol
MisterSinister making a movie is tremendous work. it is 10% fun, 90% stress.
***** And no sex.
Well I didn't have fun, and apparently they wanted the fans to have fun watching it, but it failed for me and probably many others...
I thought the movie was just kind of OK, but it's still amazing to see and hear how much work and effort was actually put into it. I've always been a big fan of practical effects, so seeing how everything was made, is always super interesting.
Yeah the film is definitely worth watching for the effects.
Kneefoil This. The movie really was just kind of okay. It let me down because of the fact I waited so damn long to watch it. It's fine though, I'm not gonna be all butthurt about it.
Yeah I agree. I was expecting more but I got enough.
Your profile picture is legendary, one of the greatest games ever made!
Kneefoil Yeah, its kind of hard to imagine what I expected from an AVGN movie but it was fun and it had some good laughs.
Can't wait for Board James: The Movie
Neither can I
There’s sm more to do with that property tbh
Out of all the stuff he did I really never found board james to be to enthralling... I don't know why I mean and I've watched all his stuff
Will Thrizzal It’s not for everyone, but the last season is drastically different
Did he confirm that would be the next Movie
I love how enthusiastic James sounded when Deathmassfnaiugnidfn was destroying the tower.
*Death Mwauthzyx
This is why I like watching movies like Jason and the Argonauts. Movies like Predator, Alien, Terminator, Spaceballs all OG special effects. :D
PistnRods For real? You said Spaceballs but not Star Wars?
tonyAJ420 what's Star Wars?
ilovedragons spaceballs, jokingly yes. ;)
ilovedragons Star Wars is a bad parody of Spaceballs
KeeseToast That's the point, at least to me
This is the thing I love about practical effects: they have a story behind them. How the effects were achieved is as fascinating and entertaining as the film itself.
After this movie James was never the same

Such a fun project to be a part of! It was an honor playing Death Mwuathzyx. Also: best imdb credit ever. -MC
This documentary was better than the movie.
Don’t say that ):
The movie that killed a movie makers passion for making movies. Crazy.
It makes me happy to know that James got to shoot the movie that he always wanted to. He's put in a lot of work to get to this point, and if anyone deserves it, he does.
Oh man James should do his own Kaiju film, Death Mwauthzyx scenes remind me of classic Godzilla films.
Death Mwauthzyx vs Jet Jaguar!
definitely!
ziljin that's the idea!
James, being the humble man that he is, forgot to mention that the miniatures were all filmed in a warehouse in the middle of the winter, with no heat. Everyone on set was such a trooper on this labor of love. It really turned out great, thanks again for having us!

Seeing this movie in Aurora, CO with my buds was amazing, love this movie, loved the experience, love this documentary.

Wow, a lot of work went into this film, great job James and the Cinemassacre team!
It's really fascinating to see how all of these effects were made, I have to give major credit to James to go through all of this.
I can't believe they put so much work into the movie. I actually can't believe it because I was extremely high on cough syrup throughout the whole thing and remember nothing other than the wacky comedy relief black sidekick.

The Nerd dosen't know who Mike is. Watch episode 115
For the longest time I didn't realize that it was actually E.T.'s neck and I saw it like it was in the movie.
Am I the only one that enjoyed this movie? Don't get me wrong, it was very flawed. But it wasn't terrible, just enjoyable.
Super Mecha Death Christ should be in the sequel.
omg...kyle...WITHOUT a hat..... :O i thought he was born with it !!
As a fully trained model maker and special effects artist this warms my heart listening to how much love and affection you have for the practical arts James 😊
this wasn't a Nerd movie, it was a James Rolfe movie, which doesn't mean it was bad. Just definitely not a Nerd movie.
This fuels my filmmaking passion, this all looks so fun
