    I picked up the Movo, based largely on your review, and found it works great. I’ve already made a 25 minute documentary piece with the Movo mounted on a Fujifilm X70 and a Zhiyun gimbal. A brilliant, svelte kit. Thanks for all your work! Dig your channel!

    Yep I think I'm sold on this. Need one for a more "vloggy" setup for my G7 (if Panasonic fixes it) for events, but haven't bothered and can't justify the expensive ones.
    Just got burned by the original "VideoMic" back in the day and never wanted to look into these again.

    Thanks so much for this review, Caleb. I've been using the VideoMicro on my Canon M3 for a year and love it, but being an audio guy who came over to video I'm constantly frustrated with the noise floor. The second you said "6 db louder" my brain translated that into the rule of thumb we learned back in audio engineering school: 6 db is "twice as loud." Already ordered through your link and looking forward to checking it out for myself.

    Just for information: you can buy the very same mic under the "Boya BY-MM1" name on eBay. It often can be found $5-10 cheaper.

      Alex Adrianov you sure it's the same mic as the movo vrx10? How do you know that?

    Thank you for your reviews. I am being gifter a Cannon M50 for Christmas in 2020, and I am looking at affordable exterior mics. RODE has come up a lot, but I am on a fixed budget. Your comparison video here was most helpful. Both mics look good, but the higher db on the Movo sounds better to me and at a price I can live with. Great video!

    Okay, this was the video out of all the RodeMicro vs Movo microphone reviews I've watched that really nailed it for me! Excellent review! And finally someone involved the fluffy deadcat muff test. I'm now definitely buying the Movo. Thank you so much!!!

    Hi there Caleb,
    I have a problem with recording audio on my Sony A6500. I shoot it a ton of different environments and I often find myself peaking the levels even if the levels are set to 1 on my camera, for example when it's windy outside (using the movo mic).
    Is there any way I can change that? Is there any solution for the Sony A6500 to have a better way of monitoring sound? I think it's super strange to have peaking levels even on level 1.
    Also, what are your thoughts on the new Zoom F1 with the shotgun mic?
    I hope you see this comment!
    Thanks,
    Sjoerd

    Hey Caleb, I have the same mic, shooting on a G85 and I get this horrible humming/hissing on all of my videos. Have my camera audio set to -12db....really at a loss for what's going on. Any ideas? Bad mic? Bad cable? Something wrong with my camera body? Not editing it out in post properly (can't seem to get it with an auto gate)?

    Could be true that the Movo might be louder but I also think that it picks up more Highs than the Rode, which may seem like it's louder. The Rode sounds more full and richer. Love the review! 🙌🏼

  • @JDW-
    @JDW- 6 лет назад +9

    Rather shocking that in a review as good as yours there wasn't any mention of the shock mounts. One has to read through the comments to find that the MOVO shock mount is a brittle piece of junk that offers no isolation at all, making the MOVO a difficult choice even if it is louder and sounds better. Someone told me they tried the MOVO in the Rode's Shock Mount but since the shape and weight are different, the MOVO doesn't balance the same. It's really a shame because the MOVO sounds like a great little mic, better in terms of sound than the Rode. But since people are going to use these mics for run and gun (not studio use), a good shock mount that works well with or without the deadbeat installed is an absolute MUST.

    More wind noise and that shock absorber will for sure break, I decided to return mine due to the quality being lower and rodes reliability. I did like that the movo came with the input for smartphones. I had to purchase that for my rode.

    The MOVO muff seemed to allow more wind noise. Ever try the R0DE muff over the MOVO mike? Or other accommodations to limit the wind noise?

    • @tjmcmahon8709
      @tjmcmahon8709 6 лет назад +8

      I think it's safe to assume that the muff for the Movo and the R0DE are the same, but because the Movo is louder, creates more noise. Not to mention that the muff for the R0DE is nearly half the price of the actual mic, whereas the Movo is around 15-20

    • @intrascendente
      @intrascendente 4 года назад +2

      @@tjmcmahon8709 Nope, it is not the same. The Movo muff sheds a lot of fur, wich makes it noisier than the Rode. And in case you still wonder, yes, the Movo sounds way better when using Rode's muff and shock mount. I like them both a lot, but for different situations each. In general, I think the Rode sound is crispier and thinner, while the Movo is deeper and detailed.

      someone here replied that the BOYA shakes a lot and makes much noise while shooting and waking. is that true? Looks like the BOYA's mount isnt that good. [neither the dead cat]...

      @wescraiglow7688 6 лет назад

      Just spent the week in Athens, walking miles through the city, filming street life. Never heard any noise like you describe. The mic performed well, and as expected for something of this price point. I am pleased.

    • @eladbari
      @eladbari 6 лет назад

      Glad to hear, man. It's a bummer to buy the BOYA while I have the Videomicro...but I will see how bad it really is with my canon camera.
      This soundman told me that many people mistake loudness=for better quality.
      But, you cant go wrong here...the extra loudness sounds better [it also adds bass]...even though there are some faults with the BOYA [annoying wind sound is still hapenning for example..]

      Try installing a Magic Lantern NightlyBuild for the T3i or T5i. It will remove AGC, otherwise known as Automatic Gain Control. I think it has a wind filter available as well in the build.

      PaulHarwood856 yeah I have ML installed on both but you can't improve the preamps within it. I have a saramonic preamp, bought on Calebs glowing review about it, that helps but not as much as I hoped. Thanks for suggestion though unfortunately canon can't can do with preamps :)

    I ordered Rode from famous Chineese webstore (original - I checked and registered S/N at the Rode official website) and it came with the smartphone connector already, so that was not an issue. Moreover, Rode's muff seems like having less wind through. Unfortunately, noise comparison in the room was fair though.

    Nice video and review but if the microphone records your voice too loud you can always adjust the volume of your voice when you edit your video
