that is an incredible machine... the only caveat I would have is the VU-meter-unit, because (if it is designed as other A80 models) it is in the signal path. For a machine designed to absolute audio perfection as this one, I would prefer a model without that VU-unit. But one of the finest tape recorders for sure!!!
Something like that could probably do a 256-QAM modem signal with tape that wide. It's a sin to put a vinyl on this, you need a 24 bit source or live sound or another tape...otherwise it's like buying raisin bran and then picking out all the raisins.

fiddler on the bike the metering circuit is fully independent and buffered and doesn’t disturb the audio path.
