After I did the review, I noticed that some apps have touch capabilities to a certain degree but it's far from useful. I could imagine apple will open macOS to touch input at a certain point, but before that happens we'll probably see an iPad with Mac like features and capabilities.
That won't work at this point. The connection must be initialised from the Mac with Sidecar. Luna Display does it better. It automatically establishes a connection upon plugin.
How far can I use the iPad far from my sidecar computer? Can I leave my computer on and work with the iPad outside with these software? Or in other words, do I have a way to use zbrush software on the iPad with no proximity to the computer?
The range is rather limited. Through the lack of touch support, you also have no way to interact with MacOS itself without a wireless mouse or keyboard. On the flipside there are certain apps like Adobe Photoshop that offer fully integrated touch support through sidecar.
That'll be a bit bumpy with sidecar at this point. You can't start the connection from your iPad. So first you'll always need to hook up another monitor to the Mac Mini. This process is easier with the Luna Display. It automatically initiates the connection once you plug in the dongle.
@@AttiBear so you cant mirror two screens in the iPad, then what you said in the video about Wacom is irrelevant because this don't have the same use-case.
This feature will be available with every device that supports macOS Catalina and iPadOS. You don't necessarily need a cable for that.It only reduces the latency.
When I use photoshop thrpugh sidecar, I get little dots at the beginning of my strokes. Do you have any idea how to fix this? It happens with no other app or program, only photoshop through sidecar.
Can anyone help me please, when I open the sidecar app it shows me there are no devices although my iPad is right next to it and open and connected to wi fi , i don’t know what is the problem. Help
@@AttiBear I'm having the same problem I've also noticed that screen that the airplay feature does not exist on my MacBook. I have the newest version iPad Pro and MacBook Pro
In my opinion that's far from true. Your finger never can be as precise as a pencil. Especially paired with force sensitivity. Btw I know did find out that some apps actually give you limited touch support under Sidecar.
Adarkjet I hope they aren’t thinking that way... it’ll kill it for artists...I’m banking on them adding touch BUT now that you mention it as a motive for selling hardware...I can see apple doing that :( Anyone really using sidecar for artwork would already have the pencil for the ipad though.
Definitely the whole touch thing is ? OMG really?! BUT I would be more surprised if it doesn’t come along soon. And when it does Luna /astropad will be gone. Right now I think the only way luna/astropad have a chance is to ditch the subscription... and if ipad photo shop is really good, luna/ astropad will become even more redundant to users. If luna/astropad hadn’t switched to a subscription model I would be rooting for them...but as I don’t approve of their business model I just see it as their greedy subscription choice biting them back. I do everything I can to stay away from Adobe because of the subscription as well. Procreate and Affinity designer are awesome on the ipad and Really looking forward to using sidecar for getting desktop work on my ipad so I never have to sit at that desk again! YAyyyyy!
As long you are using the luna app it's quite a bargain. Also I agree the combination with luna und astropad studio get's pricey quick. But if you use these tools to create content you charge your clients for, it's a small price to pay. Same applies in my opinion to Adobes products. I think the way how davinci resolve approaches the whole licensing is more practical for semi professional users and beginners. You get access to a bunch of incredible tools and can give feedback through the community. Once you reach the point where you require all the bells and whistles, you can easily upgrade to a full licence and you probably can afford it too 😁
Muhammad Iyadh Gmati There are many iPad OS features that are unavailable on iOS 13. I think that’s why they gave it its own name. It’s like people calling the iPhone 10, iPhone X.

Excellent that you mention that sidecar can't change resolution. But Luda display has a lot of bigger resolutions!!! Interesting if it worth.
That's why I always try to make my reviews as thorough as possible 😉
What is your prediction on them adding touch capabilities for sidecar...its the main thing that I can see being a big issue.

Great video, thanks!
Does it work with iPad in portait mode?
Thanks Marc 🙂. At this point it only works in landscape mode
Nice overview !
Is it possible to know the latency difference on Zbrush, between Sidecar and Luna ? (Zbrush has a free trial normally :p)
Id love to see a comparison of bluetooth sidecar vs wired usb c to c latency. Thanks for the video
I'll see what I can do 😉
Great video! Exactly what I'm looking for. I hope you do another comparison in the future when Sidecar is released 👍🏾
Thanks Ishy. Is there anything in particular you’d like to see?
@@AttiBear Are there any news with resolutions?
Still the same. Sidecar does not support other resolutions
do you use an ipad air or a normal ipad? im trying to decide if i can get away with just a simple ipad
I’m using an iPad Pro which can do a lot. What would you like to do on it?
Atti Bear Just sidecar, notetaking, and youtube haha
Well for that the iPad is perfect. Especially in combination with iPad OS 14, taking notes with the Pencil is super easy and convenient
Good video. Clear explaination
Thank you ☺️
I just need support to control a headless Mac mini and using iPad Pro as my main and only display interface. I don’t even mind using the pencil.
That won't work at this point. The connection must be initialised from the Mac with Sidecar. Luna Display does it better. It automatically establishes a connection upon plugin.
Does it support portrait mode? Great video!
Thanks Takaaki. Unfortunately not for now. Maybe they’ll add it on the future
@@AttiBear OK cool thanks for letting me know! Hope they do cos its useful for documents!

@@AttiBear Do you still need to manually initiate the Sidecar session when running a wired connection between the Mac Mini and the iPad?
Yes it’s easy if you use team viewer or Any desk 🔥. But I have a question : is Mac mini 2012 support sidecar?
Bruh why am I watching this right after bought wacom
It's never too late to check the return policy 😁
Can I use the iPad Pro camera while I'm doing this sidecar thing? Other device is a Dec 2019 Mac Air
Sidecar works like an App so you can jump between all your other apps.
I just bought a Wacom tablet and I already had an iPad Pro... why am I just hearing about this?!!
If you are lucky, you may be able to return it 😉
How does it work if you have a dual screen? The Wacom is a point to point - so the active aria is both screens. How to the Ipad do that?
Only the iPads surface is the touch sensitive area since there's not Apple Pencil support for Mac Displays
@@AttiBear so you cant mirror two screens in the iPad, then what you said in the video about Wacom is irrelevant because this don't have the same use-case.
So this will work with my iPad 5th gen 2017?
no :'(
does this work with the newwest ipad airs
Absolutely it does 😉
do u have to have apple tv for the apple display to show
No it also works without an Apple TV
Is there any way to turn the iPad into a second monitor for a windows pc?
None yet as far as I know. Luna Display is working on a portation for windows at the moment
With the 10.5 iPads, can you plug in a usb c to lightning cable and be able to output the display like you can with the 2018 iPad pros?
This feature will be available with every device that supports macOS Catalina and iPadOS. You don't necessarily need a cable for that.It only reduces the latency.
does it supports audio while video editing?
plsss ans
Sidecar only works as monitor not as an audio device. You mac is still used for Audio playback
Everything works until I try to use the pencil. No response except for the buttons on the left. What am I doing wrong? Touch Bar does nothing.
Have you tried to update both devices? Apple just released new macOS and iPadOS versions
Can the iPad be used as a pen tablet (not drawing pad or mirror) like a wacom intuos? ie a sensitive, versatile pen mouse- tablet
I think sidecar wouldn't fit your needs. But you could use the newly released Photoshop for iPad instead.
When I use photoshop thrpugh sidecar, I get little dots at the beginning of my strokes. Do you have any idea how to fix this? It happens with no other app or program, only photoshop through sidecar.
Hhhmm sound weird. Haven't experienced that one yet. Does it also occure if you connect the iPad through a cable to the Mac?
Why doesn’t it work with my iPad Pro 2017 12.9”?
Hey Emma, are you running the latest iPad OS 13 and also macOS Catalina?
i am mad cuz i have bought astropad standard, which now not have sense with sidecar

can we hide the two side bars?
Yes you can disable them in the settings

Rochelle watters Sidecar is terrible. Complete let down.
1:35 you said iOS13 for the iPad. The iPad no longer has iOS, it's now called iPadOS

It’s just a buffed iOS 13. I call it iOS 13 as well not iPadOS, I find the word obnoxious 😂😂
