    Te Waikoropupū Springs are the largest freshwater springs in New Zealand, the largest cold water springs in the Southern Hemisphere and contain some of the clearest water ever measured.
    Te Waikoropupu Springs (known as Pupu Springs), discharge 14,000 litres of water per second.
    The qualities of the water from Te Waikoropupu Springs are of considerable scientific interest. In 1993, The National Institute for Water and Atmosphere (NIWA) carried out optical measurements under water and found that the visibility was 63 metres.
    This is very close to optically pure water, with clearer water found only beneath Antarctica’s near-frozen Weddell Sea. The water clarity is a result of natural filtering prior to the water’s emergence at Te Waikoropupu Springs.

    lived over that side of The Hill, for many years off n on. Worked fishing boats out of Waitapu. Also worked in Puponga coal mine when it caved in. many years back, the locals judged your mentality, by how many years you'd lived on that side of the hill... true. ;)

    • @levib6596
      @levib6596 5 лет назад +1

      yes and no you used to be able to swim and drink but now you can barley touch it because of all the barrers and signs prohibiting you to

    • @Hugh7777
      @Hugh7777 Год назад

      @@levib6596 Not because of the barriers and signs, but because the Māori spirituality of the place is now officially recognised, after decades of being trampled on. You can't "barely" touch it, you may not touch it at all.
      Some things are more important than individual whims of the moment.

    Hi Marty, my name is Josh. I run the channel Joshua Johnson Outdoors (and I live in ChCh). I've discovered a youtube channel (Be Amazed) that has used some of your video, in their own. They did this to my video for Blue Lake as well (without permission). So far, their video has almost 3 million views. Could we perhaps communicate about this? Thank you very much.

      @@MartyT hi there, thanks for the quick reply. I've initiated a copyright claim, but am just making sure I have all my details correct. Channels like these I've noticed tend to just take other creator's content, conglomerate it, put a few graphics in and voiceover, then publish as their own. I think it might be a bit of a grey area, but regardless, it feels pretty unjust that they profit so handsomely, off of what is likely a lot of stolen content.

      It is the wild west, they will claim fair use but you can at least try to take it down and then negotiate a fair fee for the use of your clip, I find most of them will accept $200USD to release the claim.

      Te Waikoropupū Springs shortened to pupu for lazy people

  • @Hugh7777
    @Hugh7777 Год назад

    Te Waikoropupū was declared a waahi tapu (sacred place) in 2005. It was quite improper to fly a drone over it (what if it had fallen into the water?) and bloody annoying to people there enjoying the sounds of the water and birds. If you have monetized this page, so much the worse. Shame on you!
