  • Join us as we discuss the first woman to solo hike the Appalachian Trail. “Grandma Gatewood” was 67 when she first completed the 2050 mile path and she went on to hike the entire trail another two times. She became known far and wide for her walking ability, minimalist gear, and punchy one liners. Far less known was the amount of domestic violence she endured before she became a national renowned pedestrian. We’ll discuss it all with Ben Montgomery, author of the New York Times Bestseller, “Grandma Gatewood’s Walk.”

    Thanks for the great interview!
In one of her most recent videos, Dixie from Homemade Wanderlust went on a hike like Grandma Gatewood.

I went to college in Nelsonville, and often hiked in the Hocking Hills State Park. I can see why Grandma Gatewood liked it there so much. The visitors center was actually how I first found out about her, too.
