should have hiked with us in the Central Highlands in 1967, real test around Dak To in November
Thanks for being so Ernest. For Whom the Ski Poles! (These are Hemingway jokes because the man in the video resembles the famous writer Ernest Hemingway).
What an incredible conversation! I’m ordering the book right now!
reading book for the second time this holiday weekend, very inspiring. but not necessary to hike. just overcoming
Y’all this needs to be a movie! I read the book and am in the middle of “the pursuit of endurance”. Sooo good and inspiring.
I went to college in Nelsonville, and often hiked in the Hocking Hills State Park. I can see why Grandma Gatewood liked it there so much. The visitors center was actually how I first found out about her, too.
Beautiful…we will be contacting BHC soon for a family hiking trip
Brilliant, very helpful. My knees need a nice break.
Just came back from Cumberland Is, parks van tour, and seeing Carol by the road as our van passed. So intrigued, I bought and read Will’s book. While perusing RUclips for videos by or about Carol, I found this one. Excellent interview! Thanks so much!
Does anyone know what song this is? Minute 4:45?
What a nice ole fella
Cool🙏🏼
This is great!!
I love Mirna Valerio! I just saw her on The Today Show. What a insperation! The Mirnivator! Great to see your interview with her her on your book club. Thanks for posting, great interview!
Thanks for the great interview! In one of her most recent videos, Dixie from Homemade Wanderlust went on a hike like Grandma Gatewood.
Good show, im impressed grandma, and Jen walked the A.T. 3 times! Congrats.
This was a wonderful, inspiring book.
This was so refreshing and authentic. Thank you, Jennifer!! The message really resonated with me -- and I'm sure with others. You're coming to a library near me soon and I wish I could make it but sending good vibes to you and your beautiful family.
JR is a legend. What a great interview. I’ve read the book twice now and loved it each time. Being an Aussie, I loved and laughed about his Australian adventures. I hope he writes another book. Thanks Jennifer bringing these book clubs.
I’m 1/3 of the way in your second book. You are inspiring. I took my first “hike” last week of 3 miles which isn’t much but I have been sedentary for like 2 1/2 years. I may not ever get to the AT but I hope by this time next year I will be able to hike the 128 mile Lonestar Trail here in Texas. Thank you.
I love these book clubs. I hope you keep them going.
Just finished reading Journeys North. It was excellent. Makes me want to hike!
I'm listening to your book now. Did a Google search and here I am!! You are amazing and I'm looking forward to reading and watching more!! God bless you!!!
The Unlikely Thru-Hiker was a great read. So inspirational. “Mr. Fabulous” did not get a chance to see a Moose. 😂 Your trekking poles were with you from the beginning. Only fitting they should be with you at the end. Thank you, Derick for sharing your experience on the AT.
She is referencing Scott Williamson and Heather "Anish" Anderson. Two amazing hikers. Look em up.
Love this! Thank you!
Ski pole? You mean trekking pole...
No, he's using an actual ski pole.
I needed to hear this today. Thank you, Jen!!
I loved your book club. Just getting caught up AND really enjoy these talks. Thanks for putting it together Jennifer.
Great Book - best wishes from Germany to you 👍❤️😊
I love your book club Jennifer, and just finished Gorge. I am a little behind on the readings, and so relieved to be able to see the chats on RUclips.
I finished reading "Becoming Odyssa" last week. I don't know when the last time was where I managed to finish a book in under two weeks! I'm easily distracted and a lot of the time I wind up picking up other books before I'm done with the one I was first reading. Congrats on keeping my total interest! I was already thinking about reading "Pursuit of Endurance", and I already had "Thirst" on my wishlist.
Love the book
Wonderful interview - I'm planning to read his book next month.
Raw. Honest. Beautiful.
Thank you for this. This reminds me why I bring my 8-year-old daughter with me on the trail as a single parent. One day we will section or thru hike the AT.
One of my trail sisters shared this with me. It's everything I didn't realize I needed to revisit in this moment in life. We talk often about our experiences and much of the discussion is exactly in line with your thoughts and sentiments. Thank you for sharing those with the world.
Thank you for your story and inspiration!
This reminded me of how I was able to look at my body differently when I started road cycling in the mountains. I'm a 5'5" guy. I always saw myself as short. It wasn't a big deal, and I still joke that I don't hit my head on things as often as taller people. However, when I started climbing on a bike, my short stature didn't matter at all, in fact being small and light was an advantage, as it gave me a better power-to-weight ratio. I know that it was just a small realization, but it completely changed how I felt about my body. I didn't have a lack of something, I had an ability! Yes, having a family sure does not fit with the program of the outdoor/athletic adventure/endurance corporate model!
You’re a beautiful person. Loved your comment about when after your overall record that you did your next best thing - start your family. Awesome.
So inspiring. Thank you for sharing your story with us and giving me renewed perspective on life! I can identify with so much of this as a Mom, teacher, ultrarunner, and AT LASH-er.
This was great! Thanks for something so positive in these times. I have the AT on my to do list, number ONE when I retire actually. Keep adding more videos when you can!
Thank you for the incredible messages about body image. Thank you for sharing your struggles and your story!
Great Positive Inspiring messages in this film. Thank you JPD.
Thanks for that! Reminded me of our time with our own kids when they were young and places I'd like to share with our grandkids.
Thank You for this video. During this pandemic, I have restarted walking outside but walking to do my errands. I walked to my local grocery store. Tomorrow, I am going to walk to the post office and another store. The big goal is to walk to my bus transit area and catch the bus from their as opposed to the the bus stop near my residence. I have really enjoyed these videos. I hope you continue posting through the remainder of the year.
My favorite place
Right now is so hard for planning...anything. Great idea for short-term goals!
Thanks Jennifer! So intelligent yet so optimistic.
Thanks for the hopeful message!
