  • Conwy Castle in Conwy, Wales is one of the best preserved medieval castles in Britain. It was my #1 reason to visit Conwy. When you walk through the front gate, you walk back in time, into the Middle Ages and beyond. You can feel the history that took place here. The castle was built at the end of the 13th century by Edward I, King of England, who had conquered Wales. The castle played a key part in in both Welsh and English history, including being involved in several wars over the centuries. Throughout the video, I give you the history of Conwy Castle and added some medieval music to help get you in a medieval mood.

Lived by this my entire life and I still find it amazing every time I see it, I often just stop and stare at how amazing it is, I’m the shot where you pan across the river looking over to Llandudno junction and deganwy there’s actually remains of a ruined older castle on the hill side 👍👍

I visited this castle in March of 1996. I think it was the 1st castle I had ever seen. What was crazy about it was its right next to the road. When you drive by it is super imposing. I wish I could tell what it actually looked like when it was in its prime.

Edward was no mug. He built the castle right next to the main road so that he could get resupplied by articulated lorries more easily.

Visited Conwy in 1992 or so. Sadly, the castle was closed that wkend because a lady had flung herself from one of the walls. :+( However, I loved the village, visiting the smallest house in the world and combing the antique shops. I purchased an old birthday book and asked the shopkeeper if anyone knew the owner. She did, and I went to visit an elderly lady who was shocked and then elated that a Canadian girl would be searching her out. It was a delightful visit, despite the castle closure. I enjoyed this video visit! Thank you.

@@AndysAwesomeAdventures Many times in the past, most recently about 8 years ago when there was a renaissance weekend taking part with displays of armour and fighting. Not recently though. As with all locals, things on your doorstep become invisible to me as I see them so often. Plus I don't want to pay to get into something I am so familiar with. People travel a long way to visit my area of North Wales and I pay money to travel to other places. Ironic really. So much to see and do for me locally but I am bored of it all. I bet it is the same for everyone though. People that live in NYC probably don't visit the touristy areas. I'm travelling to Germany in about a weeks time. Looking forward to exploring Nuremberg castle. Travel all that way and expense to see a castle and other sights. When arguably I have better on my door step.

Wish I had a device to go back to any point in time, would love to see how much difference there is between post and pre industrial humans, habits, hobbies, laws and etiquette. So so interesting and for me the period between the 10th century up until the 17th century are rich in culture and I just love exploring and learning about it. All the best with your travels 😀

What would be awesome is if someone took a castle like this, left all the architecture like it is. Put put like a modern bed, toilet, and shower in there. And a few electrical plugs. Everything else: the walls, the floor, the dining hall... stays exactly how it is. Make it decent to sleep in of course. Then turn it into a hotel. Not this one but another one.
If anyone knows of a castle hotel like that, please let me know. The ones I found are too modern on the inside.
