I'm glad we get to see Sephiroth fucking with *everyone* in Rebirth and not exclusively stalking Cloud.
Agreed
Mr. Nintendo: "The guy everyone wants to bang."
Mr. Square Enix "............."
Mr. Nintendo:"But Cloud doesn't."
Mr. Square Enix: "OH yeah...Sepherot."
Thanks TruthBlade Seeker^_^
Amen to that!!
I wonder if we will see Rufus vs Sephiroth on Part 3
@@arnold666heartagram Oh that would be interesting though I think I’d know who would win that fight.
And to think Ben Diskin plays another square enix character where his origins can only be seen in an app game
I knew it they were both from the same voice actor!!
Alright, new comment to sum up what happened here because I think I figured it out.
The real Col. Glenn Lodbrok was shot in the back and killed by Rufus back in the day. Probably around Crisis Core time because Glenn (in Rufus’ flashback) is wearing the same cloak that he wears in Ever Crisis when he confronts Sephiroth near Fort Tamblin. He also had less facial hair in that shot, so he was younger when Rufus killed him.
Sephiroth and Glenn have a close relationship in Ever Crisis: The First Soldier story so far, and I’m betting they were still somehow on good terms even if they clashed briefly. If Rufus murdered Glenn, well, that probably pissed off Sephiroth back in the day.
So now, five years later, evil Sephiroth has used a black robe guy to pose as Glenn and trick Rufus into starting a war with Wutai, but Sephiroth is so clearly subconsciously bitter towards Rufus that he spends most of the time degrading and mocking him. Rufus figures out the ploy and Sephiroth reveals the trick, mocking Rufus further by saying, “Our promised land will become reality. A father’s dream accomplished by his son.”
Rufus obviously gets scared and shoots the black robe, but Sephiroth gets one last snide comment in about how Rufus went for the shot in the back again. Then Rufus panics and empties his pistol into the phantom.
Now if you go back and watch Glenn’s scenes again with the knowledge that it’s Sephiroth, you can see how it adds up. His mannerisms are all dramatic and he sneers constantly. The way he talks is eloquent and full of malice. He abhors Shinra and Rufus and mocks the promised land because he knows it’s a false dream. He also seems to understand Rufus pretty well, which is something Glenn likely wouldn’t have known. But Sephiroth grew up in Shinra, so he would be more familiar with Rufus.
Basically we got an entire subplot of Sephiroth being a total bitch to Rufus and trolling him lmao. Absolutely amazing. I love this.
I agree. I noticed that "Glenn" was acting weird here because he talks too formally. He also tends to use curse words(in the English dub, as far as I know) and slang to demonstrate his tough-talking, hot-blooded attitude.
As soon as I found out "Glenn" is actually Sephiroth pretending to be him, I was SHOCKED. I thought that after Sephiroth went insane, he dismissed everyone who was close to him. So for him to remember Glenn and use his image to fool and mock Rufus was surprising. And that Rufus killed the real Glenn by shooting him in the back. I was worried that adult Sephiroth was the one who killed him.
I also noticed that Sephiroth used the terms "father and son" as if not only to describe President Shinra and Rufus, but also his similar former relationship with Glenn. Glenn was the father figure in his life that Hojo could never be for him.
It would explain why Rufus trolled Kadaj in AC to get back at Sephiroth.
@@EvelynL.1112maybe he was refering to someone else as the son. Someone blonde and spiky haired
A father’s dreams accomplished by his son. Cloud is Glenn’s son
@@EvelynL.1112 Glenn is more like a big brother in Ever Crisis so far
They took the Glenn phasing in and out as Sephiroth straight from Advent Children when Kadaj did the same to Rufus
Oh! That’s a cool find! I didn’t even think about that!!
So Rufus will trick Sephiroth by discovering that he is Viceroy Sarruf, same as he did with Jenova Box?
@@arnold666heartagram I think Sephiroth already knows. So there would be no tricking him. Like if you watch the very last scene when Glen asks Rufus where Saruf was during the press conference, it’s clear he know.
So, let's see if I understand this all...
Before the events of FF7, Rufus Shinra shot Glenn Lodbrok in the back.
Glenn Lodbrok was an ex-SOLDIER from Shinra who led the coup d'etat against Godo Kisaragi to establish Wutai's interim government, all under the orders of a supposed Shinra Resistance Committee leader named Viceroy Sarruf. Regardless, the real Glenn is very much dead.
Secretly, Viceroy Sarruf is theorized to have been Rufus himself. He used the coup d'etat in Wutai to consolidate control of Shinra's enemies, which let him fund AVALANCHE in secret. He did this because he wanted to depose his father, President Shinra; he hated the old bastard. Success in AVALANCHE would make President Shinra look bad, making it easier to depose or kill him. Pretending to lead the Shinra Resistance Committee as Viceroy Sarruf also allowed Rufus an opportunity to kill Glenn. Killing Glenn was about removing a potential complication from the AVALANCHE/Wutai conspiracy which might have revealed his true identity.
Notice how Rufus says nothing whenever anyone talks about Viceroy Sarruf's identity. Tseng may also be complicit.
Now, Sephiroth, using Jenova's powers to manipulate a "Sephiroth Remnant", disguises the remnant as Glenn Lodbrok in order to get close to Rufus. This "Glenn" functionally blackmails and intimidates Rufus into continuing aggressions against Wutai by implying that he now controls the "Viceroy Sarruf" identity. It's all a ploy by Sephiroth to taunt and instigate a war, distracting everyone from his real goal of using Meteor to gain control of the Lifestream.
So, what we have here is manipulations from an individual with no less than FIVE identities -- Viceroy Sarruf, Glenn Lodbrok, Sephiroth, Jenova, and whatever poor bastard's body is being controlled by Sephiroth/Jenova.
What a clusterfuck.
A total mess!!!
Sarruf was Rufus, but since Glenn is dead and likely controlled by Sephiroth through Jenova, he is now using the Sarruf identity himself. He used Glenn’s body not just to intimidate Rufus but also to publicly speak for Sarruf. This is not good for Rufus since he was using Sarruf for his own plans, which is why immediately after the parade he asked for a truce with Cloud to leave him alone in exchange for him killing Sephiroth
If you played Before Crisis none of this is shocking. Avent children had a horrible English dub
Sephiroth posing as Glenn poses a huge problem for the main party too, Yuffie is loyal to Wutai and believes in Glenn's vision for the nation. She could unwittingly steal materia from the group and deliver it to Sephiroth (The party's materia isn't going to cut it it'll be the huge materia this time round).
The devs are going to cook extra hard with Yuffie and Vincent's stories to make up for them being optional first time round it's going to be a long wait for PT 3.
Oh look, Young Xehanort.
Still starting wars with the world
Sephiroth is now Xemnas. Has a group of people with just a little bit of him inside all of them. 😅 I call it Xemnas syndrome, everyone is him if you look hard enough.
Glen voice actor is YX
Well technically speaking sephiroth did it first xehanort made it infamous though.
@Wheredidigetthismuffin Where have you been? Sephiroth has been doing this shit since the OG.
It's Jenova. Sephiroth like others are just puppets. He just happens to be favorite. He was infused with cells at birth eventually it took over his mind. Jenova is a hivemind. Thus all the "clones" that eventually became hooded men.
I would definitely really want to see Sephiroth vs Xemnas
My theory is sephiroth wants a war to get more souls into the life stream so he can rebuild himself in the northern crater because him siphoning the life stream is what is preventing holy from being casted
ya regenration power is all that he is lacking...
Ya. And that all that negative emotions like loss, hatred, sadness to make him stronger
SARRUF == RUFFUS; Shinra is being played by Sephiroth
If Sephiroth controls Glenn, then he dont know that Sarruf is Rufus so technically Rufus got his cards aswell againts Sephiroth
14:43 Scarlet: "Who exactly is this 'Sarruf'? The invisible man?"
Tseng: "Regrettably, we have no intelligence to present at this time."
My guess is that "Sarruf" is a pseudonym. Just like Sifo-Dyas in Star Wars: Episode II, who was called Sido-Dyas in the original script and was a pseudonym for Sidious, he is probably another person being controlled by Sephiroth.
Rufus again, huh? Good theory. Makes sense!
@@cerberusrex5623 Rufus, Sarruf. You're right, they do sound similar. Might be on to something there.
@@jamesgravil9162 I'm guessing Tseng knows about it too, seeing that they always look at each other with unease whenever Sarruf is brought up.
Sarruf is Rufus, they all but confirm it when he Glenn chides him for not showing up to the broadcast and Rufus says the set looked too cheap. In Before Crisis it established that Rufus had long been funding anti-Shinra elements, including Avalanche, with the goal of getting his father assassinated so he could assume control of the company.
Glenn (and possibly Matt and Lucia with him) founded the SRC, and it was probably funded by Rufus. Rufus probably killed Glenn to cover his own identity.
I always associated Sifodyas with seafood, because really how can you not think seafood with a name like that. Sifodyas=Seafood Diet:)
By far the most captivating character in rebirth, from Soldier to mad man, but unlike sephiroth, we don’t know his full story.
Because there is no story. He defected, he died when Rufus shot him in the back. That's literally it. Please spend another $100 in the Ever Crisis gacha game
@@RedTigerDragoon why did he defect?why is he now a puppet of sephiroth? How did he end up in Wutai? Where is Matt and Lucia? the mystery of detail is engaging.
@@wolfstyle8945 idk but you can make some informed guesses. He defected because Shinra is obviously evil. Sephiroth is using him as a puppet because it would get him into a meeting with Rufus (but also to give him a cameo to promote the gacha phone game), he got to Wutai because it's just another Sephiroth clone, can't go 10 mins without tripping over one. Matt and Lucia are most likely dead, same as the real Glenn until the writers need to pull them out of nowhere to use them for a purpose. There really is nothing deep about it. Same silly stuff that Nomura and writers do with Kingdom Hearts.
@@RedTigerDragoon only time will tell, but I do agree that this remake trilogy is awfully similar to the silliness in Kingdom hearts
@@wolfstyle8945Matt and Lucia have a blink and you miss it moment, in the cosmo canyon protorelic quest line you get a flashback from the Avalance members Yuffie worked with in intergrade it shows their perspective of when Avalance HQ went mobilized their forces to reinforce Barrett’s cell when they went to break Aerith out of the Shinra building. The intergrade team is with Wedge in the back of a truck with other operatives and you hear the truck driver say that “Matt and Lucia’s teams are encountering heavy opposition”
By the sounds of it they are leaders of their own cells of Avalance
cloud shut off and reverted to his persona like in the beggining of AC remake, barret noticed.
tfw Square makes their mobile game an integral part of their next big game
I am sure he is not important, just another puppet of sephirot so he can manipulate rufus
@@dforond man...I think you could be very wrong lol.
@@raulsouza5866you think he's Cloud's father?

Use dark portal like Organization XIII
Don't look for logic, it's Nomura
Holy shit dude, don't include random shit just to pad your fucking runtime. Especially not when that random shit is full of spoilers. Have some goddamn integrity...
Glenn was charming AS HELL in EC, like he may looked and acted like he's an obnoxious reckless leader, but in reality he's a high-spirited character done right, unlike some certain girl **Cough Cough** Yuffie **Cough Cough,** and he's actually a great leader in all departments but monetary one, with a side bonus of having an expressive sympathy that earned him a good friendship with Sephiroth.
Why does this game hate hot men who are much bulkier than the twink Cloud? At least it's twink on twink friendly-fire that Sephiroth trolled Rufus.
Well heck darn…never thought I’d see the day I see Young Xehanort & Sephiroth speak at the same time LOL
ALSO, I definitely had a brain ‘splosion when I learned that Ben was the voice the moment he mentioned “war” 😂
If glenn wears a black robe like those other people who got mako poisoned then i started to think that he becomes a servent of sephiroth because he just met sephiroth and i called him "the villain of midger"
Man I was wondering what the deal with Glen and his crew were in ever crisis. I like them a lot but I just didn't know how they would fit into the later story.
Yuffie is most likely raise by Wutai, The fact that she mention Glenn that she have to be like a baby all the way through probably 5 years old maybe in ever crisis story. We most likely going to see Yuffie, Tseng and Rufus in ever crisis story
I wonder if things will become so out of control with Sephiroth in this reality that it will lead to an "enemy of my enemy" type of situation with Rufus and Shinra vs. Sephiroth?
Granted that Shinra's ambitions and Hojo would probably clip that wing before it ever flies off the ground, but it's still an interesting thought.
He has all of Sephiroth's mannerisms. I wonder if this mannerism was his and Sephiroth copied it?
In Ever Crisis, Glenn’s mannerisms are way more rough and silly than Sephiroth’s, but here they have that dramatic villain vibe, which I think are strictly Seph’s. Another sign that this was all Seph just shapeshifting through a black robe.
Yeah@@MotherOfTheCrows
So is Glenn basically Kadaj now? I didn't get too far in the 1st soldier story in EC
Knowing that Rufus was the one behind the initial attempt on President Shinra's life, it's pretty obvious that "Viceroy Sarruf" was him.
He was backing up Wutai in hope of weakening his father's position and make it easier to take him out.
Why Glenn act more like if he was an Ascian?
or a Xehanort
Am i the only one who finds glenn hot?
Who would've thought a bulky short-haired blonde himbo who "grew up" to be a dilf is hot?
23:29 how can a smile be creepy yet cute at the same time 🤭
WTF. I came here to find out Who The heck is Glenn and I saw all The secrets anda spoilers of The Game. Thanks!
Cloud's detailed, extenstive knowledge of Shinra technology, operations and plans is terrifying. Did he really get all that from Zack? I doubt it somehow...It's gotta be his inner dorky personality at work.
As a Kingdom Hearts fan, I strongly believe that Sephiroth is also the master of masters. His demeanor in that glenn disguise is way too identical for the MoM to not be him. The gazing eye also is the same green eye with the slit pupil. Sephiroth is the MoM. I'm calling it.
how tseng can see glenn?
not just tseng but everyone can see him here but when Glenn appears to Rufus in the next scene even darkstar couldn't see or feel his presence
@@jodaakbr7227 how midgar can see him through the TV?
i think glenn survived in zack universe, and he traveled to cloud universe
Great content but a few of these scenes don't even have Glenn in there lol
5:21 bro is that Claptrap?
Okay, let’s talk about Glenn.…and I have a few thoughts.…
I wasn’t entirely interested in his story….at first. Compared to how heavily invested I was in everything else Rebirth was throwing at me, the scenes between Rufus and Glenn just were not hitting me as much as I wanted them to.
My original take was that I felt the story was retreading covered ground with the Shinra and Wutai conflict and I felt it detracted from Rufus’ goal to reshape the company. I was of the opinion that it was regressing Rufus as a character and weighing down the narrative.
But all that changed, when Palmer, of ALLL fuckin people, said this:
“Well, who can blame them? They fought against the republic in the name of freedom…but when the smoke finally cleared, they found themselves under the heel of a new oppressor. Why, I‘d be more surprised if they didn’t hate us!”
That was the moment when this particular story grab my attention, and when I realized the game was making a commentary on regime changes, that’s when I was interested and I found relevancy with what they’re doing. And it helped me further appreciate how terrified Yuffie was when she saw her fallen commrads in Nibelheim. Now she feels like a soldier without a proper military, and she has no one to turn to but her new friends. That is fuckin interesting.
I also now think that Sephiroth/Jenova pulling the strings (ha ha) and forcing Rufus into a no-win scenario has allowed me as a player to look at Glenn’s scenes and listen to his dialogue in a newer light. I find it so fuckin fascinating and smart on the part of Nojima with the specific word-choice that he used because it’s not obvious Sephiroth dialogue at first, but upon replays and rewatches, I’m now going “ah fuck it was right in front of me the whole time.”
That is clever shit, to me.
Shooting behind Glenn is pretty cowardly and less boss. Well done, Square Enix you stole this spotlight before we continue seeing the story of ever crisis. I still don’t know what happened behind to Glenn and other two members…
Matt and Lucia are alive and mentioned in the flashback scene where we see the perspective of the characters from the Yuffie expansion in the first game.
Both of them are members of Avalanche now and went MIA during the attack on Shinra HQ when they were leading separate teams. They may return in Part 3 once they do the return to Midgar part.
@@orrthehunter I hope Glenn, Matt, and Lucia return and see what their beloved leader has become. They'd definitely be devastated. Seeing this lethal, but sweet teenage boy become a psychopathic monster would be very interesting to see. Angeal already got to see how much of an evil monster his friend had become in Dissidia Opera Omnia.
@@EvelynL.1112 well consider what Glenn is now, he already knows. Matt and Lucia on the other hand probably do not. Either way it looks like Matt and Lucia been set up for Part 3 and who can say where they may take Glenn story in Part 3.
@@orrthehunterif that’s true I can’t wait I really liked Matt
@@FNGalcatraz Matt is the underrated one of the trio. While Glenn and Lucia openly express their affection for Sephiroth(when he was a teenager), Matt and Sephiroth are the most rational and logical of their respective trios.
What’s this OST?
Wtf is the magnus materia?
It’s the Materia in the weapons found in the reactors I believe.
Who is Glenn?I dont know him
Play the first soldier story in the ever crisis mobile game
So Glenn is Cloud's Dad, RIGHT?!
lol what?! nah...
what is ur source
but i do see they look kinda alike
Yes. The only thing explaining why Cloud was able to kill Sephiroth. It was so unexpected for him in Nibelheim...Cloud's sudden interference in his plans, made Sephiroth obsessed with time travel as he wasn't able to realize at first how karma was following him all along. Glenn's story is going to become a gateway towards redemption for our favorite archvillain and hopefully an end to Cloud's curse of reviving him with his hatred every time.

@@ThatBeingCedNomura is still influencing.

He's from FF7 Ever Crisis, Chapter FF7 First Soldier.
He's heavily hinted to be Cloud's father
Buddy…Play ever crisis before you show off your ignorance
Cloud's dad, that's who.
@@reddishcarp1237 Glenn doesn't look anything like Cloud. Rufus does look sort of similar to Cloud though, and President Shinra looks to me like an older version of Cloud. My head canon is that the President is Cloud's real father (Shinra does have other illegitimate children), that Claudia was told to lie about their affair, and that Cloud was experimented on at some point which is why he's so special, despite seemingly being a complete nobody.
