A wonderfully idiomatic performance of these irresistibly funny songs. Sheer genius how Britten matches the absurd humor of Auden's texts. A pity that the recording is rather piano heavy c.q. the singer sounds a bit recessed. On the other hand it lets one admire the very skilled pianist, who seems to take some liberties here and there but does so in great style. Thanks for posting !!

Let's consider the fact that this was my recital and these songs were just part of the concert... I remember that with my friend who took care about recording, we tried to set mics "kind of" compromise for the whole evening... I played lots of solo, there was this and also Piazzolla 4 seasons with - piano trio... Guja also does not sing directly straight to the audience (mics) on every single moment... So, I hope this would explain the sound-balance "issue". One can understand (I hope) that studio record would sound better balanced...
