"
Skarbowsky's jab is really unique... very good for keeping distance and almost zero telegraph on it. I think it's largely because he has his arm up and oriented left so he really just needs to extend and put his body behind it. Really impressed.
I’m impressed by how technical this Jean Charles is. He’s an intellectual fighter, not some giga athlete. Buakaw knew he had to be careful not to get caught by something.
Buakaw - who is 7 years younger btw - did his homework and so knew how Skarbowsky defeated legendary nak muays such as Robert Kaennorasing. A few years before Skarbowsky was Raja champion and fought for king of Thailand anniversary, which is a great honour.
In a pretty recent interview Jean Charles Skarbowsky admitted that he didn't know tha he was gonna fight Buakaw until the airplane to hong kong, he hasn't trained for 3month and was clearly out shap. Having this kind of fight in thoses condition is incredible but JC admitted also that buakaw was the better men tonight
you mean the pillow punches he's occasionally hitting buakaw with? the teeps are decent but against a teep master like buakaw its not enough. while the commentators were morons I agree buakaw landed good power punches...solid as fuck roundhouse kicks with both legs and several powerful knees. buakaw was the CLEAR victor....especially once the 3rd round started and JCS started upping the pace then it was overmatched by buskaw upping it even more. JCS is a solid fighter but he's not quite in buakaws league.
munkierunner I mean let me remind you that skarbowsky was the 3x world champion in muay thai and I wouldnt say that his punches and kicks dont hurt. because they do. he is known to fail weigh ins and indulge so I think it was about stamina in this fight. if skarbowski actually cut weight and leaned out and improve his stamina. buakaw would have lost. Buakaw is an amazing fighter and so is Skarbowski. they are both amazing fighters.

The points in the end didn't really reflect on the commentary. It almost seemed like a one sided fight. Both men were playing a game of chess, truly an honor to watch them perform. I've rarely seen Bukaw this humble, especially against a western fighter. Mute the commentary put some nice Thai fight music on and watch the fight.
Bien joué J.C j'aime beaucoup Buakaw mais là obligé j'étais pour ma patrie, t'a été solide !!! La preuve il se méfiait de toi, je l'ai jamais vu autant analyser un autre combattant !
During the following year Skarbowsky became n°1 of the Rajadamnern Stadium for the second time and retired. I'm impressed by his ftl reflexes even after some serious hits to the head, he can take a high kick like it's nothing.
I saw him doing work on the experienced MMA talent on an older Ultimate Fighter season with GSP. So just had to see if he went up against big competition in true Muay Thai, lo and behold Jean-Charles Skarbowsky went up against one of the best to ever do it. Wow! I mean Buakaw clearly looks more beautiful in technique (of course like all Thai's who've been born and bred to do it since they were kids - almost making all Thai practitioners child-prodigies) and outclassed him, but Jean showed he is a true master of the rhythm, technique, and nature of the game. His composure, poker face, and solid, solid base and doesn't back down with proper closing off of angles or opportunities (nearly impossible to do correctly for foreigners against a real thai, especially at this high a level of competition). Jean may not have been born in Thailand and grown in a stable like his opposition but he definitely lived over there for over a decade or 2 with some serious talent to hang in there like a legit Thai fighter.
Great fight - incredible skill displayed by both fighters. Poor announcing though. One announcer is painfully clueless and the other knowledgeable, but they both did their best to make the fight seem much more one sided than it actually was. The right man, Buakaw, won, but please give Skarbowsky the credit he deserves - he fought an amazing fight, but lost to a legendary fighter in Buakaw. Get some announcers who both know what they are talking about and who don't actively trie to take the wind out of the fight for the viewers. Would be nice.
He didn't train for this fight and didn't know he would be fighting a legend. So he did the best thing - paced himself in the match and just tried not to get humiliated.
Wellllll.... Maybe in Kickboxing. Buakaw was never a Lumpini Muay Thai champion (he was ranked 2nd) before he switched. He wasn't the best Muay Thai fighter - but he was the best to adapt the style into Kickboxing. He is one of the most popular Muay Thai fighters for it, but definitely not the best Thai fighter even during his prime.
First, there’s 7 years difference between the two guys. Buakaw was then at the peek of his kickboxing career and Skarbowsky stopped his nak muay career one year after this match. Second Skarbowsky did fight around half of his matches in Europe where fight style was at his time much tougher than in Thaï - opponents wanted to hurt you badly - which meant shorter careers in the end because your body is worn out. Third, if you don’t listen to the poor comments during the match and look at what happens: who is at the center of the ring and going forward? Buakaw did not steal the result of this match, but a two years younger Skarbowsky would have defeated him surely. If anyone doubt this just have a look to his matches in Thaï or in Vegas vs legendary champion Robert Kaennorasing. Buakaw is one of my favorite Thaï fighters along with Robert and Dieselnoi, probably some of most powerful ones of all time. But Skarbowsky is another beast, he had the thunder. He’s probably the one with the biggest amount of deadliest ko victories in that period. Not tkos or gentle kos, I mean the real bad stuff when the opponent leaves the ring on a stretcher with his eyes rolled back. Few people unfortunately remember that Skarbowsky was Raja’s champion or that he fought for king of Thailand anniversaries for 2000 to 2005. Few people know as well that when in Paris he was training at the same Muay Thai gym than Jerome Le Banner and sparing with him.

The reason why it has been said to the "public" that Skarbowsky training was concealed, is because he actually did not trained at all for 6 weeks before this combat, due to an injury. Putting this in perspective, it's not crazy to claim is could have been superior to his opponent with a decent training....
A good fight. Nice commentary but a bit dated, makes Muay Thai seem a bit of a novelty for us Westerners. But good to hear how we used to view. Good performance from Buakaw and not too shabby from Skarbowsky. Nice vid!!
goofy announcers, they missed so much of the fight. Western announcers are always so impressed to see spinning elbows, but you rarely see these have any effect on muay thai fighters, usually they miss or bounce off. This fight I think was before Buakaw focused more on boxing. I was surprised he didn't use elbows more, but then he probably had too much respect for Skarbowsky for that. As usual in muay thai, I love that both fighters displayed so much respect for each other. It separates this sport from most other martial arts and fighting styles.

yea he's an idiot. I think I know he means to imply kicks with your legs, but that's redundant as you don't kick with anything BUT your legs.
Yeah man this was really bothering me 😂 I hate commentators who don’t understand the sport
Chris McRoy No but you can kick a leg with your leg, a leg kick.

A natural Thai fighter carries himself differently, you can see it in his blood, the form, the rhythm and stance, he's confident but humble, he doesn't brag or run his mouth , he respects the fight, ring and the trade by keeping his composure during the fight.

first time i actually heard commentary on a muay thai fight.. these dude were clowns except the one dude who knew his shit.. didn't one guy legitimately ask if something was impressive or not? .".bro, are you asking me to validate your opinion? did it impress you? yes? okay... then yes it was impressive.

+NICKownsHALO27 agreed, and who is burrowkai?
you mean the pillow punches he's occasionally hitting buakaw with? the teeps are decent but against a teep master like buakaw its not enough. while the commentators were morons I agree buakaw landed good power punches...solid as fuck roundhouse kicks with both legs and several powerful knees. buakaw was the CLEAR victor....especially once the 3rd round started and JCS started upping the pace then it was overmatched by buskaw upping it even more.
Why has the English guy been asked to commentate on a muay thai fight, when he clearly hasn't even seem a fight before???!!!

People saying Jean Charles Skarbowsky was drunk or used to drink a lot before a fight are talking absolute crap !
At last !! i almost thought that every moron of this world had an appointment here ! thank you !
Jean may not have been born in Thailand and grown in a stable like his opposition but he definitely lived over there for over a decade or 2 with some serious talent to hang in there like a legit Thai fighter.
nice analysis on a good fight! everybody is pissed about the commentator haha but you focused on the fight, nice!! :D
Jean is probably more accomplished in MT than Buakaw
Great fight - incredible skill displayed by both fighters. Poor announcing though. One announcer is painfully clueless and the other knowledgeable, but they both did their best to make the fight seem much more one sided than it actually was. The right man, Buakaw, won, but please give Skarbowsky the credit he deserves - he fought an amazing fight, but lost to a legendary fighter in Buakaw. Get some announcers who both know what they are talking about and who don't actively trie to take the wind out of the fight for the viewers. Would be nice.

skarbowsky is soo minimalistic and conservative with his energy. he just kind of walks around as if he's waiting for a hamburger.
He didn't train for this fight and didn't know he would be fighting a legend. So he did the best thing - paced himself in the match and just tried not to get humiliated.

It's a great fight with respect between fighter and a high level of muay thaï

British announcer: "Buakaw is more buff, so he's winning."
lmfao smh
goofy announcers, they missed so much of the fight.
