Stumbled upon this video in hopes of seeing someone remove a circlip for the wrist pin on the piston so I can clean mine. Got a couple of burnt valves on my 14 R1 so my engine is torn apart ATM. This video DID give me the idea to tip the motor so I can clean the grooves where the rings sit so thanks for that! Your video was also very nice to watch and a good DIY project as well, thanks!
Next time you paint if you want professional look please mask off everything and use PJ1 High temp satin engine paint it's designed specifically for motorcycle engine parts I will give you the best finish, keep up the amazing work brother 👍🏿
I'm glad it helped you Jim! I figured it would alleviate some anxiety for people that don't know what to expect when they're considering tackling that type of job...
@@LeeTillbury I think he has a 07/08 frame on a 04/06 R1 being they shared the same frame. Or maybe not that would be crazy if they used 5vy marked cases on the 4ce. What’s weird is the original part numbers were the same except for the first 3 digits 5vy and 4ce but the new part numbers are totally different.

I see similarities between this engine and the FJR engine. I like Yamaha lots!!
Yamahas are very similars indeed 👍
Wherever you don't want paint just cover the area with Vaseline and spray away. When the paint is dry just wipe/wash the Vaseline off.
Thanks, this video really helps, looking forward until the bikes finished ! 😊

Take your time and do it the right way ! Good work ! Engine looks decent !
Thanks ✌️
love your videos, I have to do my r1 project aswell. Going to paint the engine block.
Which paint are you using ?
@@TristanDurandBuilds its called hammerrite here its good against the elements.I also use engine paint sometimes.
good stuff, perfect kitchen too
Gotta love that kitchen! 😅
Loving the build! Keep up the good work bro! 😎
Thanks Romeo, I appreciate the nice words!
Big job .I m be mecanic in brazil
Cool Walter 👍
Legend mate!!
Thanks man ! I appreciate your nice words 👍
I couldn’t see the crankshaft bearings did you install new?
love your videos, keep it up sir!
Thanks man, I appreciate it! 👍
I'd avoid acetone in case it comes into contact wiith any plastics. Use IPA as a solvent.
I'm about to be working on a 07 R1 changing the cylinder head does the motor need to come out to do it
Definitely, you can’t take the cylinders with the engine on the frame
The 07/08 seems to have had valve guide issues. It’s a shame cause I so love this generation but I’m afraid of them. So I’ve stuck with 04-06.
Good job, well done. Strange that your engine has 5vy stamped on it (time stamp 20.12) when the 07 is a 4ce?
That’s right, engine is 5VY and frame is 4C8
@@TristanDurandBuilds So it turns out they used the 5vy engine casing on your 4ce engine, just swapped the vale train out from a 20 to a 16.
Yeah that’s right the frame wasn’t new for the 07-08, the engine was updated.
I was confused the first time I saw that too 🤔

@@jacobhendrickson8935 It's been answered by me a year ago ^^^
Why would you not replace that crankcase??
Nice videos man
Thanks Laurentiu 😊
I appreciate the compliment ✌️
@@TristanDurandBuilds keep doing this man
@@TristanDurandBuilds i've learned many things from your videos
That’s the most important thing I’m trying to achieve: show things that people didn’t know or didn’t dare execute 👍
Would you work on a 2015 r1?
bro how did u weld it with what
In brazil we like more of the honda
Ha ha, wow if every country has their own preferences... 😅
Must be alot of grass in Brazil😂😂😂
Way better in English!
Haha! If you don’t speak French the other channel must be confusing 😅
Painting inside of an engine case???? Oh thats stupid. The paint will flake, and end up in the oil, and ruin the engine one day... 100%
Well, I try to not do stupid stuff but I’m sure it happens because I keep doing things
Tris.. I need your help bro. Msg me please
Ok Danny, you need help with an R1?
@@TristanDurandBuilds yes. Same bike. 07/08 R1
I guess you don't believe in purchasing the right tool huh?
Not sure I understand this comment 🤷🏻♂️
