- Welcome, or welcome back, to Wanderlust Walks! Thank you for being here.
Today we are exploring the picturesque Oxfordshire town, Woodstock. Best known to visitors as being the home to Blenheim Palace, the market town has a lot to offer in its charming centre, including many shops, pubs, and restaurants. Being a Georgian town, Woodstock's architecture is beautiful everywhere you look, with its many attractive period buildings throughout the town. The Town Hall, designed by Sir William Chambers, is an 18th century building that was commissioned from the 4th Duke of Marlborough. On the south wall of the Town Hall is a sundial, which is believed to have come from the previous market cross. The St Mary Magdalene Church is another building with a long history, as it was built during the reign of Henry I for the convenience of the court during royal visits to the royal hunting lodge of Woodstock Manor during that time period -- the beautiful church also has an attractive Norman doorway, early English windows and a musical clock, which plays tunes hourly. Walking around this stunning market town on an early summer morning was simply magical, and we hope you enjoy coming along with us!
