I dialed back the overall volume a little too much I think in this one, so feel free to turn it up - it's not you, it's me. (that may not have been the first time I've said that...) Thanks for watching!
You that black leather jacket and that beautiful edition of WAY OF EDAN, making me think Rick Thunder advised this look today. (Thank you for supporting us on our release. You are a true friend.)
I wish Rick would help me with wardrobe. As it is, his rider is insane and I don’t want to ask for fashion help. But I’m glad you like the jacket and YOUR BOOK ROCKS !
You have a heart of gold, Brian! Not literally, of course -- that would be a serious problem . . . What I mean is that you're a kind and generous person, and I am honored and privileged to call you a friend. Thank you for featuring the special edition of The Way of Edan by The Broken Binding here! Also, I am in the middle of Discovery, and the Mintons have really hit it out of the park!
Wow man I owe you a thank you for a lot of things! First off, SO happy you enjoyed Discovery so much and you described it perfectly in the video. Also thank you so much for having me on FWTBT! Had such a blast and can’t wait to come on again with all three of us!
I’m all for a BellTube discord! The One for the Road hit me really hard. I’m a federal employee and with so much uncertainty around the future of my workplace, I haven’t been able to read much of anything for weeks, outside of news and executive orders. When I wasn’t doing that, I was commiserating with other federal employees about the news and executive orders. It’s been pretty depressing and angst-inducing. Thanks for being on Booktube Brian. Your videos help cheer me up.
I should be sleeping right now as I have work in a few hours but I’ve got to finish this video! The effort you put into these videos Brian is incredible! Your energy is just infectious!! And that’s a fact!! I can’t wait to read JAJ’s book in the spring and talk with everybody about it!!
Glad you enjoyed Discovery. I am super excited to read that and support all the Minton family. CotM is great, I am about 85% through it now and really enjoying it. The discussion will be fantastic.
Oooh The Way of Edan edition is so beautiful, I loved seeing Philip unbox that and get all emotional about it!! Super happy for you that Jannyuary has started off so strong, hope you enjoy the rest of the series just as much. And yeah I binged LPQ in one go, and that was definitely the way to go for me. It's such a nuanced and multi-layered story! Also, heeeeck yes for Discovery!! Hope February treats you well 🤩
Great video Brian! Seeing that Philip Chase special edition is truly giving me FOMO! Gonna have to pick it up, considering how much I adore the series! Awesome insights into Discovery! Reading it right now, and being wowed, especially by the cinematic elements you highlighted! The Mintons are SO TALENTED! Also happy to see the Janny Wurts love! As you know, she is so deserving! Thanks for being part of helping Janny to achieve a small measure of all the recognition she deserves! Happy reading!
I can't wait for Talking Story's book! So cool to see the family put something together like this! I'm definitely going to be picking up that pre-order for a signed copy Those Broken Binding books look gorgeous! I'm super excited, I finally got an invite to Tier 2 so I should get my first book in the subscription next month. I did also pre-order Grave Empire from them so hopefully I'll get that next month as well. Great video!
Great video Brian! I'm getting more and more interested in the War of Light and Shadow, but I plan to read Malazan first. All super short and easy books eh? In January, I finished the first half of Rise of Empire and started Of Blood and Fire. Im loving Of Blood and Fire so far! I really enjoyed your one for the road! It id such a good idea and reminder!
Discovery is awesome, I'm 2/3 of the way through as of this morning and absolutely loving it! Mistwraith was so fantastic, I was enthralled from page 1 What BS meter talk is huge. One of the most valuable things about my scientific twining in grad school is the idea of rational skepticism!
Great episode, I just noticed you are at 4K AWESOME! Both the Jakob and Bookborn shows were relly good, you caught Bookborn right after she dropped a really good video.
The Broken Binding edition of Philip’s book is truly stunning! Really interesting point about character names in LPQ! I remember Otah, Maati, and Amat Keeyan, but I really struggle remembering other character names in that series. Maybe it’s because there isn’t a a massive fandom for it? Wild that the whole series is fewer pages than Wind and Truth! 😳 Great wrap-up! 💜
I also read Curse of the Mistwraith and enjoyed it but not the super violent chapter. I fell head over heels in love with Tad Williams’s the Last King of Osten Ard and I am about half way through. This morning I started Gardens of the Moon! I think listening to GGK’s Sarantine Mosaic and Curse of the Mistwraith were great training grounds to listen to Malazan.
Nice! I can't imagine doing Malazan by audio but if you are used to big epics like that in audio, you'll be good! Excited to see what you think of Gardens of the Moon!
I’m loving discovery so far myself-out of my wheelhouse but it’s opening a whole new world for me. And I’m sad I accidentally shipped my Edan Edition to NJ 🤦🏻♂️🤦🏻♂️
Here in the wild (remote rural Middle America), I finally received my copy of the Broken Binding edition of the Way of Edan yesterday - what a beautiful book! I haven't started the Wars of Light and Shadow by Janny Wurts yet, but I'll get to it eventually, after I read her Cycle of Fire trilogy this spring.
That was a great One For the Road. It reminds me of why I come and hide in the bell tower when the bs-o-meter runs at full capacity. So, for that I thank you 🔔
Thanks, Brian! Your videos are always a boon to my day! February Goals-Finish Howling Dark, and then read Demon in White. Start Deadhouse Gates. On the ebook side, I’ve been chipping away at the Murderbot Diaries and just started The Justice of Kings. The elephant in the room is Wind and Truth. I’m committed to reading it just don’t know if I’m willing to dedicate the time to it yet!
Great video. I read the Overture of Discovery and I’m so pumped to continue on. I’m in the middle of a couple reads already though. So, I think I need to wait so I can focus more on it. Absolutely intrigued though! And good One for the Road. There is a lot of dumb nonsense out there right now and it’s a bummer. But focusing on more of the positives instead might help.
I’m glad to hear about Curse of the Mistwraith. My wife just found a hardcover of it at a thrift shop for $1.50!! I believe it’s a sign I need to read it soon. Brian did you ever read The Exorcist by William Peter Blatty? I just finished that up and it’s one of the best and most moving horror books I’ve read.
Best Reads of January: Mercy of the Gods James SA Corey Think I like more than you did. Sailing To Sarantium by Guy Gavriel Kay Non Fiction: Elephant Whisperer by Lawrence Anthony Author adopts an abused herd of wild African elephants and rewilds them. Sadly and wonderfully, I read afterward that the Elephants showed up at his funeral and stayed for three days. Next Month Reads: Way of Edain by Phillip Chase Mushroom Blues by Adrian Gibson Lord of Emperors by Guy Gavriel Kay which is the sequel to Sailing to Sarantium.
Sorry for the tome that follows. Think of it as "Channel Engagement". 8-) Primal Hunter, Zogarth - I had many of the same problems that you did with Primal Hunter, in that there were a lot of stats that seemed totally irrelevant to the story. Oh my, the 4-digit stat number is a new, slightly higher 4-digit stat number? Shock and disbelief! 1652 is _so much_ better than 1625 that I just can't stand it! That said, there were some decent character notes during that period, and there was story progression. At maybe the halfway mark, the story did get better, with meaningful decisions and actions, and I did like that bit. But during the the last 10-20% of the book, it seemed to lose its way entirely. What are we doing now? Well, not much, really. And we're doing it very slowly for no particular reason. Mayor of Noobtown, Ryan Rimmel - This was something of a guilty pleasure for me. The humor is juvenile (infantile?), but there was a real society-building story that I enjoyed and I did like most of the characters. I've read the seven books that have been released so far, and around book 5 or 6, the series started to drag for me. The first several books had good focus, interesting world building, and sympathetic characters. But the last few seem to have lost their focus. That said, I hope you like the series. For me, this has been a good month: 40 books, with six 5-star reads and a mean rating of 3.55. The highlights were: Starting a reread of Glen Cook's Garrett, P.I. series, which is just as good this time around. It's one of my favorite fantasy series. Finishing the Feist/Wurts Empire Trilogy and reading Feist's Princes of the Blood. The Empire trilogy starts out brilliantly but slips a bit by the end, but Princes of the Blood I liked a lot. Continuing Ted Steel's Player Manager series, which has a decent plot, excellent characters, and a great heart. Steel makes me care about soccer, which is a remarkable achievement. I've also been enjoying Drew Hayes's Fred the Vampire Accountant, Christopher Nuttall's Zero Enigma series and Schooled in Magic series (both fantasy), and Marc Cameron's Arliss Cutter suspense series. On the down side, book #18 of The Demon Accords, by John Conroe, was just dreadful. Short version: there are too many people on Earth, so we're just going to kill 35% (on the close order of 2.8 billion people). Oh well. I have really liked this series in previous books, but I'm taking a break from it now, because this just angered me. Also, Lee Child continues to be a good action writer and a complete idiot when it comes to research. Without Fail, book 6 in the Jack Reacher series, was one of the stupider entries.
Thanks, Doug! I'm going to hit that Cook, Garrett P.I. series hopefully soon. I also want to read Fred! I'll be interviewing Ryan Rimmel in March live so hopefully you can join us in the chat!
Yeah, I just know there's so much nonsense out there. Hope to remind people they can decide what they want to ingest. And, you know, I don't think they've been seen together.... hmmm
I have to say the broken binding editions The way of a Dan are very awesome looking because They actually make me want to read the book no offense to Philip but the original covers Are not exciting in fact They just to me scream boring
I actually like the original covers but they are highly stylized, so I can see where some people may interpret them as less exciting. Whichever edition you get, or audio, I think you'll be impressed. The books delivered for me 100%.
I dialed back the overall volume a little too much I think in this one, so feel free to turn it up - it's not you, it's me. (that may not have been the first time I've said that...) Thanks for watching!

Thanks so much, Philip. It's truly meaningful to me to have a friend like you.
I don't know Brian personally, but his kindness and generosity certainly come through in his videos.
Wow man I owe you a thank you for a lot of things! First off, SO happy you enjoyed Discovery so much and you described it perfectly in the video. Also thank you so much for having me on FWTBT! Had such a blast and can’t wait to come on again with all three of us!

I'm always here for you Dark-O! We should set up a call sometime in the next couple weeks too.
@ Thanks Brian, we should!
OMGI can't thank my lucky stars enough that our little family project hit with you my favorite brother from the North!!
Meant every word brother in the South!
@ you are so awesome!
Thank you for the wise and kind words in One for the road. I needed to hear those words today😊
I'm really glad you found some value here! That's the whole goal of the channel.

Great video Brian! I think Tori gives Jagger a run for his money. Let Rick know that. 😂😂 I’m so excited to read the Minton’s book.

Wow, this channel is fun! Rock on Rick Thunder!
That's a Fact!
The Blood Stones is awesome - I'm glad Rick agrees! I'm looking forward to reading Discovery - thanks for the review of that one!
It's fantastic. Both books are! Thank god Rick agreed. Would've had an issue with Tori.

Welcome to BellTube! We do things a little different over here and I'm super happy you are along for the ride!

Mistwraith was so fantastic, I was enthralled from page 1

@ I think so too!
Lol! "Not written by Mick Jagger" is a solid critique. XD
I'm so glad he delivered a unique blurb that will never be duplicated!
One could say Rick "reddiwhipped a book" :D (I'll put myself in timeout.)
timeout not required! Rick will be Rick!
I’m glad to hear about Curse of the Mistwraith. My wife just found a hardcover of it at a thrift shop for $1.50!! I believe it’s a sign I need to read it soon.

I'm not really much of a horror reader....
@ Ah. Makes sense. I think you’ve mentioned reading Kings Dark Tower. Have you read any horror from him or mostly just stuck with his fantasy?
Best Reads of January:

Nice! At some point soon I want to return to GGK for "A Song for Arbonne" then get over to the Sarantine Mosiac. He's so excellent.
Good content haha

Mick Jagger 😆😆
He's not Tori Tecken.
@@BrianBell7 not even a little bit!
Oh man major fomo with LPQ and Janny Wurts and the JAJ Minton book!
They are all so great. Wait 'til people get their hands on JAJ Minton's book in May. It's going to crush.
Is Dungeon Crawler Carl a audio book must? I prefer reading
I would give it an audio try first. It’s the best voice actor in the biz. If you don’t like it on audio, return it and get the ebook or hardback
