Really enjoyed your Jan review. Glad to hear someone else thinks life is too short to slog through crappy books. Funny though, some I have gone back to years later and loved it. Different life space I guess.
@@pattypage6723 ohhh yeah I definitely agree with that. I have come back to a couple of books and really enjoyed them. Sometimes I'm just really not in the mood for certain genres
I loved Song of Achilles with all my heart and soul. But I did know the story as I've been obsessed with Greek mythology for as long as I can remember. I can see how not knowing anything about Achilles and his part in Troy would be jarring, especially if you went in thinking 'oh a nice love story usually has a happy ending.' The first line of the Iliad is "Sing, goddess, the anger of Achilles" after all. I think I cried through the last two or three chapters. Greek myth is often quite tragic. If you want to know more about it, I'd highly recommend Stephen Fry's series starting with Mythos. It's fantastic and really funny. No one will claim it's authoritative but he's telling the stories to appeal to a modern audience and gets them across while being a lot of fun.
Another brilliant video Tyrone 😊 Your content always cheers me up.
Would love to see more of your bookshop tour videos (that way I can add more to my places to visit list). I already visited Scarthin Books on your recommendation and spent far too much money on some beautiful editions.
High Peak is on my list for next week 🥰
If you’re ever in the area, Ashley Book Farm is a wonderful second hand bookshop just outside Coventry. Great food and cake too!
You are so natural in your approach to books. You read a wide variety of authors and genres. As you say reading is subjective. Enjoy your reading Tyrone.
Glad your channel came up on my kindle. I'm an older American guy 75 with 4 British grandparents, paternal ones from Manchester area. My paternal grandma always dunked her cookie in her tea. My grandad came to USA to run textile mill. All the books on your list except for one are found in my library system here in Gulf Coast area of Florida. I lived up in cold north till I retired. I have a small house now so I use mainly library books, ebooks if they have them. Great selection of books. I get syfy fatigue after 3-4 books and switch genres. Been over to the UK many times, mostly to Manchester and Newcastle areas. Looking forward to more videos.
@@joegilbody4878 absolutely love the story of how your grandparents moved to the states.
Empire of the vampire… so over the top, dramatic and gothic. I absolutely loved it and I recommend it to almost nobody because I think it has the marmite factor where people are either going to love or hate it!
Chuck P. -Fight Club I agree was an almost DNF for me. Most of his books are because they are graphic and super harsh and without societal edits. Without giving it away I will tell you that what you think this book is, it isn’t. So if you can stomach reading through the muck you’ll get to what to book really is, which is not white men blowing off steam. To be honest, I’d probably get more out of it if I read it a 2nd time, since I slogged my way through it the first time, but I’m unwilling to put my self through that again.
So, no pressure as you said SO many good books out there to read. Love what you do. Glad to have found you here 😊
@@ShelliTruax I think one of my problems is that when it comes to deeper meanings in books, I usually miss them. I feel like id have more chance finding my Dad than the meaning behind most books 🤣
I love your approach with books and reading ! It's a wonderful reminder to myself that reading shouldn't feel like a chore. I've only read 3 books this month but it might be because I tackled Blood over bright haven at the same time as Anxious People 😂 Being in U.S, both books just were making me feel so much. Incredible books but definitely going to read silly books next xD
@@birdajet thanks so much. I am such a mood reader and have no issue in leaving a book if it doesn't align with my current mood and coming back to it. I'm a big believer that reading should never feel like a chore and should ALWAYS be enjoyable ❤️

Question:.
*Your* fave book so far (the book / story that gripped you?)
Happy New Year 2025 everyone'.& Keep reading:)
@@peckerdecker heyyyyy. It's actually the book that I'm currently reading. The fellowship of the ring
I SO want to read Blood Over Bright Haven. I made my New Year's resolution to tackle my owned TBR this year and I don't own it. CRY! I read And Every Morning the Way Home Gets Longer and Longer and I even liked it a little more than his A Man Called Ove which was wonderful too. If you haven't tried it though I'd suggest it to you. I think Fredrik Backman is class as you say. I'm here for whatever content you provide because you're so fun and relatable. Happy reading Tyrone!
@@coleenmorgan431 I still need to read the book. I watched the film a man called Otto with tom hanks and ugly cried at it lol. Thanks so much Coleen ❤️
I've only just discovered your channel, and I've got to say you're a breath of fresh air on this platform. Excellent stuff ! (And hello! I'm also in Derbyshire!)
@@valsif thankyou so so much ❤️
HOBNOBS Fir yer Brew lol
Not the chocolate ones, the original, love them lol
Great wrap up, And Yes Please would love to see more bookshop tours.
My Son and his family are coming back to the Peak District in summer camping, and I can not wait to go to the high peak book shop.
We saw the film Enders game, bloody awful.
Love to you and yours x
@@bluebellink7023 ohhhh I do love a good hobnob too. Might buy some on the way home for tonight 🤤
I must admit when I read the synopsis for The Song of Achilles, I was disappointed when I read that it was about war from approximately half-way through. Nevertheless, I decided to go ahead with it. Being forewarned, is definitely being forearmed and although it was my least favourite aspect, I still enjoyed it. The ending killed me. "In the darkness, two shadows, reaching through the hopeless heavy dusk..."
M W Craven - all these books are absolutely fantastic. Definitely a book-to-book series that are wonderful reads. If you can - give them a go!
@@AngelaColeman-b6i I definitely plan on finishing that series this year, for sure 😊
@ Personally, I would be unable to say which is the best - they are all great reads. I think I read the series over 3 weeks about a year ago. Passed them on to my sisters, who did the same. I hope you enjoy them as much as we did.
Another great video, good all round list and reviews thanks Tyrone ☕📖 still haven't tried empire of vampire or empire of the damned...MDB.
Absolutely love this channel, content so natural and so relatable👍
Hi! Nice to meet you in the Mencap shop yesterday :) My favourite book read in January was 'The White Road' by Sarah Lotz. If you like horror (but not too extreme!) I'd recommend.
@@SylviaDaisyPouncer heyyyyy, see I replied this time ❤️ I will definitely check that one out
Birdman by Mo Hayder was AMAZING! an ending that I still think about and I recommend it to everyone!
Damn I wish I could get through that many books in a month! I realise you have many books to read next but if you get chance try Strange the Dreamer by Laini Taylor .. not a long book and there is a second book Muse of Nightmares. The writing is so beautiful, really interested in what anyone else thinks 💙
@@debfletcher2607 this was an extremely good month for me to be fair. I spent soooo much time reading. I will definitely check that one out, thankyou. At the top of my list this month are a few Stephen king books before I give up on him and Lonesome Dove by Larry McMurtry
I love your book tours, it's because of you I went to high peak bookstore and I loved it there!
@@HiddenNuggetttv yeyyyy. I'm gonna do lots more in the future
Hey my friend! I hope all is going good for you and yours 😁🤝, great reviews as usual 😎
I've just subscribed after watching this . I love your natural style. I must read Dungeon crawler carl soon as I've seen it everywhere and people who's taste I usually share have loved it. Blood over bright haven is on my shelf ready to go this month
@@womenwotreads awww thanks so much. I never really have much of a plan behind what il post. Tonight's video is about my battle with depression and how books saved me
I don't know where you're from but there's a bookshop in Barnsley called Foster's Little Bookshop which is great but quite hidden away which I think could be great for the book shop series!!
@@elliestott I'm from Chesterfield so that's not too far at all from me. Il definitely head over there and check it out, thank you.
With Empire of the Vampire it was influenced by Ann Rice and Anthony Ryan, I forget the name of the trilogy but book one is Blood Song so it might be worth definitely looking at as that is the side that takes away the interview aspect.
Blood over Brighthaven was my top read of 2024 it was absolutely incredible! I still need to get to Sword of Kaigen
@@buildawallofbooks Sword of Kaigen is very different but equally fantastic. I think it's still on kindle unlimited
I LOVED both of Jay Kristoff's Empire series and I can't wait for the next book; due out in May. I just hope Gabriel gets a happy ending.
@@teresaharris-travelbybooks5564 I'm looking forward to trying out the nevernight series by him to see what I think to that one.
Please try Michael Sullivan!!! he is an amazing author! one of my favorite male friendships ever! the Age of Myth series is one of my 'of all time' series and auto-buy author for me :)
I listened to the audio book to the ‘empire of the damned” , it’s great. All of the series .
I have just stumbled accross your channel and FINALLY a channel that is about the books and not the pretty! New subscriber for sure have enjoyed your content so far :) Would love to know if you have read David Eddings and Raymond E Feist and what your thoughts on them are :)
@@KirnixCreations thanks so much. I haven't read either of them but I have had a lot of people recommend Raymond E Feist so that must be a good sign
Really enjoyed sword of kaigan so will be hunting for blood over brighthaven!
You might like Enders Game the movie - the book is better but the movie is good. I loved your book store tour - I'm in USA Arizona so I may never get to that book store but it was class (lol) and would love to see more
@@charmainekaldwell8481 I looked at the move trailer and I think I may like it because the children look older than 6 haha. I'm gonna do more class bookshop tours and if I get rich and famous il come and do them in the states haha
So glad to hear your thoughts on ads, they drive me mad 😂😂😂
Suggestion for a book tour - Barter Books in Anwick, Northumberland. We visited while on holiday last year and every city needs a shop like this.
@@annetteatkin9127 I sooooo want to go there. It's just such a trek for me from chesterfield
Have you read Ben Arranovich, the Rivers of London series? Crime and magic combination and are fantastic reads. Strong characters and relationships. Deffo recommend.
@@puppydood I actually got that in my last video from a bookshop and plan on reading it soon
Just came across your channel. Interesting thoughts. Following now, thanks
@@TheRubeeRose thanks for the follow ❤️ welcome to the mad house
I love Steve Cavanagh ❤ he can get a bit repetitive. But man, I love it so much, they're such an easy read and they fuck with my head hahahahaha. I can't wait until you get to "thirteen" (book 4) it was the first one I read from him and my dear lord, it was freaking fantastic ❤ (the plea is also really good)
I find books with vampires and other supernatural creatures in them can be hit and miss... When they're done well, they're great, but when they are badly written then they aren't. In the 2000's, there was a big trend for Urban Fantasy, and some of my favourite authors come from that genre - Kelley Armstrong, Jim Butcher, Carrie Vaughn, Patricia Briggs for examples. Then there other authors that are OK (for me, nothing wrong with the book, and plot, etc), but it would have some aspects in it that made me not want to finish the series - Kim Harrison, Sherrilyn Kenyon, Christine Feehan and Keri Arthur come under that category, then there were some books that I wanted to like, because I liked the premise of the series - Rachel Vincent comes to mind, but I just couldn't find anything at all to like about the main character and the people she was with, and then there are others were the writing was just terrible, or too derivative of other books. Don't feel bad about not liking the vampire book entirely because even fans of the genre don't like every book they read in it and find problems with the book even if they like them.
For Greek mythology, there are a couple of courses on Coursera that go into it and they are free and a website that I follow on Neocities has an indepth look into Homer's Iliad. The site's called the Reading Project.
There are some independent bookshops in Sheffield - Sheffield Space Centre, Porter Books (they do second hand books) and there was Oxfam and Age Concern at Broomhill. I'm not sure if the Age Concern bookshop is still there and there was a bookshop near Endcliffe Park, but I'm not sure if it's still there or not as it's been ages since I went. There was an old bookshop called Rare and Racey that was around for a long time from the 70's, but the guys (hippy types) running it were forced to close it because the council wanted to redevelop the area but never did. It's probably changed quite a lot since I was last there, but Sheffield Space Centre is still there because I follow them on Facebook.
Yeah empire of the vampire is a long book. I enjoy it but once I put it down takes me weeks to pick up again
@@NiceTryGuvnah yeah that's a little bit how I felt. It was my book club read so I had to finish it but I'm not sure I would have if not.
If you want vampires, you can't beat Anne Rice, and The Taste of Blood Wine by Freda Warrington is one of my favourites of all time. Still devastated you didn't like SoA T_T I think I've said it in every video now lol.
Hobnobs can be dipped for so much longer than 3 seconds.
@@StephReadsStufff I didnt hate it though. I actually LOVED the first 40% of it and it was on its way to be a 5⭐
@@BookishDadReads Definitely reread it once you know the actual myth ♥
I only know Enders Game as a movie. I'm not a sci-fi fan, but enjoyed the movie.
@@MMjones6459 il probably try the movie. It's the kind of book where the movie could definitely be better
Hi I loved the video also here a book a recommend. Godkiller by Hannah kanner. One my favourite fantazy sires.
🙌💛
Try reading the Stephen Fry Greek Myths Series, First book Mythos.
Love your videos….
I have to ask, where are you getting your copies of DCC from? I cant find them anywhere that isn't stupid expensive 🤣🤣Jen
@@thedragonsbookden I got them off Amazon. I think they were about £15
@BookishDadReads gonna have another look over christmas it went up to like 30 quid lol 😆
Gutted you didn't enjoy Empire of the Damned as much as me but I guess it would be boring if we all shared the same opinions!
@@macaullykearney6355 I know mate. I just don't think I expected all the church stuff and it just wasn't up my street
Give a try to Halflife series by Mark Simmons. Amazon says Dracula meets Godfather
Amen about Twilight. I DNFed the first one when it said that vampires couldn’t go outside because their skin shimmered and that they had to play baseball in the woods because they hit the ball so far. I mean…
