I'm a huge fan of the Jesus Lizard and everything Yow has ever done. My first club concert was Helmet + the Jesus Lizard in the early 90s. HOW AM I JUST DISCOVERING THIS SONG IN 2024?!
You could say that I am a true blue Zep fan. As big a fan as any. I can't stand stairway to heaven . And the thought of someone remaking their tunes just makes me smirk and grimace. Then I heard this rendition of this song. Im not saying the other bands didn't sound good. They sounded like they were singing a led Zeppelin song .. about as exciting as a plain sheet of white paper or dry toast. But, then these guys .. Took the song, performed it in their way, and presented it back. Now, that to me is a tribute. Not " Oh, hey, look, we can play your song exactly the way you did as can 1000 other people. The fact that this song is all about the night dresses and fooling around all night long. Makes the way it was sung that much better! So first, thank you for not doing the stairway, and 2. For presenting a real tribute. It rocked!
So funny this exists because every time for the last 30 years I've heard "Custard Pie" I've also thought "man, of all the bands to do a cover of this song, I bet Jesus Lizard would fit it like a glove". Then, sure enough.
HELMET and Dave Yow from the Jesus Lizard fucking rock. I saw them do this back in the day at the height of HELMET's powers. I believe it was The Hollywood Palace.
lol in 2021 you can't post negative comments without getting torched, but this song brought back memories of the first time I heard Encomium. This song was terrible back then, and it's still terrible today. That should've been left off the release. I've been a Led Zeppelin fan since 1974, and this was disrespectful to one of the greatest bands of all time. Sorry bro. I'll give you a thumbs up for trying, but this definitely didn't go thru quality control....Led Zeppelin Rules the Universe...stay safe out there, I love all of you nuts
@@SashaPesic I love Zeppelin, David, Helmet and Giraffes as well. I think David and Page's intensity crank this classic to 11. I also love Captain Beefheart for the same reasons. I'm also an artist, so I dig avante-garde everything. Not for everyone and that's what makes this a Cult classic.
Helmet.....Jesus Lizard......Zeppelin!!! Three of my favorites separately, but this version of this song is boring, i would of expected some innovation musically. Yow is how you would expect him, but is this really helmet playing, i expected more.

I little earlier 😁
David Yow is a fucking miracle!
Amen.

A-FUCKING_MEN!!!

David Yow is the man!
Even throws Elvis into the mix 😂😂😂
You have to blast this song. Great job. 😎

Wow... Never head this before. My Yow singing Zeppelin just made my evening.
David Yow is a god!! :)
After so many years of hearing this tribute album, this is the only song it does not get any old.
Like David says
It's not for pussys is it.
Amen, I come back to this one over and over.
love Zep but like this one much better!
Yow fronted Zeppelin?
This was fantastic!!
This is what it sounds like in my head
In hearing a bit of Jon Spencer & the Blues Explosion....
At least they played the song correctly musically.. Dave added a hilarious twist to it 😆...
Yeah!
They fuckin killed this shit haha made it punk as fuhhhhhh
I have this one
Really cool...
Kinda sounds like Bender from Futurama.
He does sound like Bender
This is the sound of insanity
Imagine if Yow fronted Flipper did a version of this.
Hard to find this album anywhere?:(
Yeeeeeessssss bro
@amccann7 I'm sure you mean "distinctive"
Where's the video???
This defeats the original. No contest.
With that pin pan drum? 😂 You do know Bonham is the greatest rock drummer ever?
Yow is the greatest frontman.
probrably the funniest cover of this song i have heard
112swordmaster Definitely.
I think it's unintentionally funny...
My dad enjoyed it. But he heard some of The Jesus Lizard's stuff first so he was prepared
David Yow>Robert Plant
no.
@@MoonGrrrl yes
MoonGrrrl yes. Any day of the week.
100%
Helmet's on fire. That singer however is another story.
He is on fire in the more literal sense. God bless little David Yow.
@@chrisknight3734 ick
yow is god. you just don’t know yet.
@richard101273 I agree, this gets boring fast and should be less than two minutes long, or just be David Yow a cappela for the remaining time.
Disagree - thought that it was great!
Monty Python, i suppose...
Sounds like this version was sung by Newman from Seinfeld while he had his mouth stuffed full of cottonballs
Great version, should have been the blueprint for the whole album instead of the terrible 90s blandness of what surrounded this!
Mojack!
@PutItAway101 at least yow never wrote songs about lord of the rings!
This always reminds me of Wings Hauser singing Neon Slime

If you were really a Weird Giraffe you would have loved this. David Yow is a miracle man. I love this version as much as the original.

Led zeppelin sucked that’s why it’s so boring, not helmets fault
This is worse than the most unlistenable moments of Captain Beefheart.
Not a Jesus Lizard fan?
Good, go back to Captain Beefheart. Don’t need that shit here.
Music is great, singer...not so much
