for all you naysayers, notice that plant, on this album, didn't do any other duets with any body else, and if you hate tori amos, be sure you do so after perusing her over 20 year music career (be informed before you open your cake hole XD) like someone else said, just to reiterate, she freaking LOVES zepplin and has already covered MANY of their tunes
indeed. well said. and any naysayer rubes still waltzing in and protesting in outcry with their sophomoric takes and prepubescent squeals can kindly fck off.
Doesn’t matter how long her career was or anything else. Plant sounds awful in this song, and her horrid screeching voice is even worse. I love most of what Plant has done both with LZ and during his solo career, I have followed everything he has done. But the only duets he shone in were with Krauss. This song is the worst he ever did. Love is blind and deaf.
Damn right! I know v well the story about Tori & Robert, and I think the trolls should stfu - could they do better?! Didn't think so. Love to T and Robert, I'm delighted this finally happened on its own merits. Bless them both, and fuck the tiny naysayers! ❤️
Welcome to America where your opinion, if it doesn't match what the pitchfork toting crowd says, you're wrong and sentenced to an eternity in hell. I can like Tori Amos and not like this track. No one cares that she used to masturbate while listening to Zeppelin.
I have listened to this many times, but only just now realized Plant’s guitar playing is at times imitating the sounds and styles of Tori’s Bosendorfer piano. I enjoy this song and version more and more with the years.
As much as I love Led Zepplin and the original song, I actually think this version is better. As a matter of fact, most of the covers on this album were top-notch (although, of course, many of the originals are better). However, this version takes a rather light-hearted song and turns it into a dark, haunting love song. Beautiful.
Robert plant has struggled so much with his voice but always makes it so special. He's not trying to do zep stuff anymore just uses the voice he has the best way he should. Love him still.
You think this is a result of Plant lacking the range to sing down by the seaside? When he was singing immigrant song every night in 1990. Or belting rock and roll and black dog in their original melodies during the Page/ Plant tours from 95 to 98. Have you listened to any live Robert Plant in the past 30 years?
I have loved Tori for as long as I can remember and I knew of led zepillin obviously, but had never really listened to them until this album came out. it was because of her duet with robert plant that I really became familiar with the band's library. It was through Tori that I was introduced to other Music I was "supposed" to know, joni mitchell, 9case of you), rolling stones (angie) I've listened to their duet a million times and it never gets old. It's always haunting, moving, and visceral.
This one stands tall on its own. Completely different from the original and equally great if not more. At 6:30 she goes into 3 variations of crooning. absolutely haunting. Another song in Encomium that rewrote boundaries is Going to California by Never The Bride. Oh that song gives me the shivers.
I did not think anybody can do better than Led Zepplin but this is as good as the original. Juat amazing hearing Percy again. What a treat for the fans.
Happy New Year 2021, and what's this little gem, sounds like a bad day at the beach. I'm so locked into Zeps version, as well as the rare acoustic demo version that this version (and Robert owns it so he can do what he wants), is so strikingly melancholic and dark in contrast. And wow like Robert plays the guitar on this, very interesting, makes me wonder if it were him now playing acoustic on the original? The guitar is very dark compared to Jimmy's bright sunny day at the beach version. Robert the dark in this tune, Tori is the reluctant light. Very peculiar, but I like it. Reminds me of how I looked at the beach when I was young, and how I perceive it as an old man, kinda comes off like that, like one who has done much in life and is aware of nearing the end. Mind, matter and our search for meaning in an expanding and evolving universe, nice cut
@Joe Blow - completely, mate, in my opinion she's an absolute Goddess and wonderful to hear another guy give her the credit she's due! She saved my life in a spiritual sense back in the mid 90s w "Boys for Pele" and pulled me back from the edge like an alt-rockstar version of Lady Galadriel, and I love her for it so much! Best wishes to you from Australia 🙂
When I first heard this I thought it was Solstafir but once I realized it was a Zeppelin cover I was blown away by how incredibly different this version is on how eargasmic it is.
This could be Solstafir or an old Sigur Ros tune. This is one of the most played Led Zepp version s I listen to overall, even tho it's Plant. I find Amos adds something very special to it, and the band. It's so bluesy and catchy.
Ouvindo esta linda versão olhando de um quarto de hotel para a abóbada de uma igreja ortodoxa grega em São Paulo/Brasil. Noite. Frio e chuva. Alimentando a alma.
I don't think it occurred to you that Robert Plant was the lead vocalist of Led Zeppelin. So if Led Zeppelin is a legend, how is its own vocalist a disgrace to the band itself?
That’s because at certain point in time, all the surviving band members decided they will never make good music again and would go on to make tasteless dry tunes
He is generously sharing the spotlight with her and allowing it to bring out the best in her which I think is the sign of a TRULY fabulous artist. It showcases Tori. It thrills me. Phil collins does this as well with almost as amazing results, particularly with world music.
obviously Robert thought well enough of her to re-record one of his great songs with her... And "Tori Anus"? You've seen Zepp live, so that leads me to believe that you're 50 and not 5...

Idk this original I think. I do think if you listen to a tribute record you realize you're not actually listening to say Zeppelin. Idk there's a lot of cool layer stuff here. There's a conversation.
John Paul Jones hated the original. Wonder what he thinks of this. JPJ's Organ melodies where absolutely lovely in the original and I'm not a huge fan of the organ/electric piano....in rock specifically. Not sure id call the original a rock song or...Zep even a rock band. They were much more of a blues than anything. A damn good one at that. I have always liked Amos' technial abilities as she is an extremely gifted pianist. The possibilities this song presented to say the very least were sorely missed imho. But... artists gotta art and this was what they wanted. I hoped for something else.
@joyfulin christ: very poor statement....never ever is she a satanist....she is a loving and protecting person. ..if you had cared and read enough about her xou would have known she was a victim of satanic actions against her and she poured out her pain while singing!
Pretty poor collaboration and terrible interpretation in all fairness. I just found this on a Pressman Cherry Music studio duplicate cassette. It’s a copy from the studio master. Maybe it’s worth something to a die hard fan!
I see the word stunning used a lot below. Stunning is a good word, SHITTY, CRAPPY TERRIBLE, JUNK, HORRIBLE I can come up with a lot of words. Unfortunately NONE of them are very flattering! This is one of the top 3 Zeppelin songs in my worthless opinion. Love Plant and Tori is AMAZING singer. But this song just got so hacked up!
just really, really awful. I love both artists solo, but this version just guts what is a gorgeous and sublime song. it sounds like tori didn't really know how to add anything to the song, so she just crooned along. the instrumentation is terrible, too.
I worked for Tori Amos. She is not a nice person. I was part of the local crew at an arena where she was playing that night. (George Mason University, Fairfax, Virginia.) She requested that all of the local stage hands had to leave the arena and stay in a small, windowless room while she walked from the stage and to the bus. Once she was in the bus, we were let out, and continued our work. We were also told that night that before or during the show we were not to look at her or talk to her.
Tori Amos is one of the sweetest people I’ve ever met. I can’t tell you how many times she added me to her guest list because I didn’t have tickets, or offered me a ride in her limo. She is truly salt of the earth.
Sounds like pretty standard stuff to me, and I don't think you "worked FOR Tori Amos" then dude; more like you actually "worked for" THE VENUE itself, which....would make perfect sense with most of what you've said here.
LOL. I don't believe this for a second. Worked around her at a radio station in Austin when she came in for an in studio performance. She was one of the sweetest artists that had ever been in the studio. She came into the sound booth and introduced herself to all the sound guys and radio crew and said what a great job we were doing and apologized for her sound guy being an "ant fucker." Later that day, she stood in the lobby and met hundreds of fans for nearly three hours, took pictures, signed autographs and took requests before her soundcheck. I will never believe a bad story about that lady.
Yes I do know Plant was the lead vocalist of Led Zep. I've seen Zeppelin live. I was saying that "THIS" performance is HORRIBLE. Plant was at his best when he was 20- 30 yrs old. When he sang in the Honeydrippers band it all went south after that time. And this terrible version with Tori Anus really sucks. p.s. I know my Zeppelin history.
This song proves what I've thought all along. Tori Amos is way more Robert Plant than she's ever been Kate Bush.
U shut up okay bebe
❤❤❤Robert❤❤❤
Robert Plant was her teenage hero I believe and they sound great together.
Didnt know this existed until Tori mentioned it in an interview with Rick Beato. Amazing
me too
Same shame.
Welcome to it haha! Had this cassette back in 94 and it's awesome.

Tori is Incredible!
The people posting negative comments obviously know nothing about Tori, her love for this man, or this band. It's beautifully done.

I was going to say the same. This cover is an amazing re-imagining of the song.
Nope
Agree hard to beat the original but this does
I agree, it’s difficult to make the best song better, but this... is so much more... a different tangent, but on the same level.
Not even close, this is way to dark doesn't have that ethereal feel, her voice doesn't fit at all. Bloody horrendous!
