    Welcome back! You make me tired by just explaining your schedule... wow that is a LOT of live teaching time. You are so right the paperwork/meetings/case management never goes away. I hope your department reorganizes so that the teaching time can be more equitably distributed next year. Your experience reminds me a lot of my time teaching SLIFE (students with limited/interrupted formal education) I taught basic reading and math concepts to high school age students performing at a primary level in their first language. I bet you make most of your lessons from scratch or have to heavily modify everything so a ton of prep too! Happy to see and hear from you I look forward to more teaching vlogs. :-)

      Yes definitely similar skills being taught! My fingers are crossed and it sounds like there will be some changes next year!

    I missed your vlogs! All of your content is great but your vlogs are the most interesting for me to watch. I'm happy for you that you were able to find a new teaching platform - closer to home - that still allows you to work from home. Have a great winter!
    P.S. - I'm glad you got to have your pizza! hahaha

    I hated doing the case management responsibilities when I do not work directly with a student. Those IEPs are I feel least confident, represent the learning needs, including supplemental supports.. adoptions to those supports, using and accessing visuals, when and how best to adapt or modify instructions, etc. How do you make that work? How often are you calibrating? Do you push into general education to support? I am just curious because these are all challenges in SPED with in person instruction, so imagine virtual instruction even more so?

    Hello Teacher Brett! Thanks so much for your videos. They’re so helpful. I’m currently seeking an online elementary teaching position for 2nd grade through K12. I’m really interested on what a typical day looks like and I know 2nd grade is probably a lot different than what you teach for special Ed. However would you say you have a better work-life balance than if you worked in a brick and mortar school? And what made you want to work from home than in an actual classroom?

    • @ferrerjennifer01
      @ferrerjennifer01 3 года назад

      Yes I would like to see her perspective on comparing full time teaching virtually vs. full time teaching in a brick and mortar school. I’m afraid that with virtual, it’ll be more work and require more of my personal time. Which is not ideal.

    Oh my goodness, I would LOVE to be solely a case manager. I feel like I'm a really good paperwork person. I could SO do that if teaching didn't "get in the way" LOL

    how would I access the material you taught in this video? I also teach high school adapted and I have struggled with the unique learning system. They give us access to. It simply is not enough. please let me know where your best resources are to teach kiddos who are self-contained but virtual!

      This is technically considered a public school, so you need to have a state teaching license!

    Is there a certain laptop or computer brand or must haves that you recommend for teaching online?

    • @TeacherBrett
      @TeacherBrett  3 года назад

      I really like my Microsoft Surface Pro, just make sure the computer has a lot of memory so it doesn’t slow down once you start downloading and storing things on it. An external camera will usually give you a way better picture on video. A headset with a microphone is really important to students don’t hear an echo while you teach too!

    Interesting video. At 11:30 I couldn't believe you said you're teaching kids to use cash though. That's not a skill they'll need in the future as we're heading toward a cashless society. A lot of businesses don't accept cash anymore because of Covid and how dirty coins and bills are.

    • @TeacherBrett
      @TeacherBrett  3 года назад +1

      I have debated about this, but it is important to the parents and it incorporates basic counting and one to one identification skills that they need anyway. I don’t know that any of these students will ever be able to have a credit card/debit card independently. They may have some pocket money though.

      @@TeacherBrett The numeracy practice is good but carrying a wallet will be as old-fashioned as owning a rotary phone. The future is cashless and driven by contactless payments to mitigate the spread of Covid-19. For example the Pennsylvania Turnpike won't accept cash or credit cards anymore specifically because of this. Probably not long until retailers do the same & the only way to pay is with an app.
