You mentioned lead poisoning. Arsenic was used in paint and the inks on wallpaper all the way through the 1800s. Also in makeup. Arsenic poisoning was not uncommon.
I read the "crack" in the house as being a wound. A festering wound
This is awesome and very interesting!!
One of my favorite pieces by Poe.
Really appreciate all the lectures that u upload... Would be grateful if you could make a vedio on " The Sublime and the Avant Garde"Jean-François Lyotard
Very well explained 👍🏼
Is it possible that the “disease” is inbreeding?
The family only has one branch, and all the Ushers are confined in the house. For some aristocratic families, it was a way to keep the blood pure, but it also causes physical and mental disorders.
thats true
Dear Carrie, your videos are amazingly clear and helpful, thank you so much for uploading them! And also, you convey so much passion and excitement during the explanation and that makes it even more pleasant to listen to.
Regarding the question "Is it possible for a house to make you sick?", I believe that Mike Flanagan was inspired by this very short story to create the Netflix series "The Haunting of Hill House". The element of the relationship between two twins appears in it as well. It also seems that in 2023 there will be a series just about The Fall of The House of Usher :)
I wasn't sure if I should watch "Hill House" or not; I can't always handle horror movies, lol. What did you think of the series?
I 100% agree, love most all of the Flanagan series' these past 4-5 yrs. Are you going to watch the new Usher series??
@@CarrieHooverMike Flanagans various series on Netflix have been mostly incredible. Hill House is arguably his best, the haunting of that poor family is resllt sad at times, its such a human story. The Bly Manor (turn of the screw) follow up story for me could've been shorter, but the last few episodes are great and a beautiful and tearful finale. Midnight Mass is my absolute favorite of his, not based on a book, but it's like the best "version" of Salems Lot I think we'll ever get on TV/movie. His new 2023 series, fall of the house of usher, looks fantastic (the preview anyway). I hope you at least try that this October 2023 given your series on RUclips here
