In his response to MTG, he basically laid out the reason why no one on the republican side really wants to fix the problem. They just want to use it as in issue to run for election. The system incentivizes the exploitation of cheap labor by making incredibly difficult to get them some kind of status or even deport them, thus ensuring a pool of cheap labor is available.
It's all about cheap labor and both parties want that but the American taxpayer is the one picking up the tab to take care of them by housing, feeding, providing free medical care etc etc. It's not sustainable.

At 31, I miss the late 90's and early 2000's when i truly believed that our government cared about us - the people (remember folks, i said "believed").
