The iPhone XR & XS are officially set to get at least 7 years of iOS support - and the only devices not getting iPadOS 18 are the iPad 6 and 2017 iPad Pro models. The final iPads to never have a calculator app, a true tragedy. What are you excited for in iOS 18? Anyone have an iPad not getting the update? Do you think the XR/XS gets iOS 19? Very curious to hear everyone's thoughts!
well I can tell you a simple answer, the pros and the iPad 6 are already 6 years old so that’s why they’re gone. But the 7th gen iPad is a year younger than them. So that’s probably why they’re losing support
Got the iPad 6th gen when it first came out and I haven’t updated it for 2 years meaning it’s still on iPad os 15 but I barely use it and i am afraid if i update it, it might just get slower anyways. I only use it to play music by my pool anymore because of the legacy aux port. Wish new iPads still had them still. Not really mad about the loss of updates for it as you can tell. 😂
Hot take but the iPhone XS/XR may possibly get iOS 19 because every S model increased the total number of years for iPhone support without exception. - iPhone 3GS- 4 years (iPhone OS3-iOS 6) iPhone 4s - 5 years (iOS 5-iOS 9) iPhone 5s - 6 years (iOS 7-12) iPhone 6s-7 years (iOS 9-15) iPhone XS-8 years?? (iOS 12-iOS 19???). But I also suspect that in late 2026 the 11/XR/XS may all get dropped together.
I think it's because A12 is vastly more capable than A11 is, especially in terms of Neural Engine. That's why they give more support years than iPhone X
I tried a similar prediction. iPhone 3GS (Essentially A3) - 4 years A5 Chipset - 5 years A7 chipset - 6 years A9 chipset - 7 years But they broke it with the a11 chipset.

The big comparison back then for the iPad Pro 10.5 was the iPad Air 3 and at the time they said oh go with the iPad Pro because the chip set doesn't matter well I guess the chipset does matter because the iPad Air 3 will get years more support with the a12
My iPad Pro wont get iPadOS 18. I will use it until I need to change the battery as this iPad is a fantastic model! Probably the greatest one I have ever had, (had a few in the past).
Apple really needs to drop support for devices when they become too slow to run the latest version of iOS/iPadOS, not arbitrarily based on the age of the device. This would mean that the iPad Air 2 and Mini 4 should have gotten iPadOS 16, along with the iPhone 6s, 6S Plus, SE first generation, iPhone 7, and iPhone 7 Plus getting iOS 16. A9 and A10 devices do not feel slow at all on iOS 15. The iPad Mini 4 is a bit slow on iPadOS 15 but the Air 2 still runs iPadOS 15 pretty well. I can absolutely forgive the iPad Mini 4 and Air 2 for not getting iPadOS 16 but the iPhone 6s and especially the iPhone 7 lines should've gotten the operating system even if it meant that the devices were a bit slow. The iPhone XR on iOS 19 will probably be a slow buggy mess judging by the fact that it's already a bit laggy on iOS 18 but it is still perfectly usable. I'd be fine if the iPhone 8/8+/10 would've gotten iOS 17 and then not iOS 18 by the way. The reason why Apple does this this way is because they want to support all of their iOS/iPadOS devices for six years it seems at least. Then they want to drop support for them as soon as possible so people upgrade. So the iPhone 7 got six years of support but at the time that it was dropped off the iPad seventh generation had only gotten three years of support. It will likely be dropped with iPadOS 19.
I got the 14 pro max and I feel that should of gotten the Apple intelligence I can understand the regular ones but pro and pro max users should of gotten it
I’m still using my IPad Pro 10.5. It would have been great to get ios18 to run this thing gracefully into the ground for another year (battery is cooked, constantly have to have it plugged in and the screen is cracked but use tempered glass protector to cover up) Hard to hold back the urge to get a new iPad now, just what Apple wanted… smh
Can any one please tell me that after updating my iphone 15 plus to ios 18 will my apple watch se 1st gen work being on watch os 10??…will it receive calls, msgs etc from the device?
Too unfair for 2017 iPad Pro users compare to iPad 6th gen. Pay more but less support. Good news for iPhone XS series user and bad news for iPad Pro 2017 users. “Great job” Apple you scum 😡😡🤬
The fact that my iPad Pro, a 2018 11-inch, is getting iPadOS 18 is both a testament to longevity but a reminder of how Apple is purposely crippling the iPad from its true potential. It’s time for the iPad to merge with the Mac. That’s the only way the iPad can be powerful.
Dankpods just put out a video arguing for a unified Apple OS with a touch-based version and a mac version. Basically he said bring touch screen macOS to iPads.
It’s not the ram, when I see it right the system could run without issues on 2gb ram devices, I think the way bigger issue for apples programming are the different screensizes where they partially must overwork whole layouts instead just to cut a new function that it still runs on 2gb ram…
@@Eddy_E. it’s the ram issue. Friend had iPhone 8 on latest available iOS and it definitely felt sluggish. The screen size doesn’t make sense cause iPhone SE (2nd and 3rd Gen) have home button with 4.7” and still get latest iOS. Then there are iPhone Minis with 5.4” screens.
@@ProtectusCZ every current supported iphone gets iOS 18 that shows that you just talking bs, sorry… Here is the iPad the topic and there we have the difference between 9.7 (iPad 6) and 10.5“ (iPad 7) that’s for sure more important for an Major update as the ram… Apple can handle small ram but what they can’t handle pretty well are different screen sizes…
@@Eddy_E. My mom still uses the 8 Plus and it runs everything smoothly on the latest update. I think the Plus has more ram than the normal 8 so that might have something to do with it though.
i think the real reason why the 7th gen could still be supported is because apple wants to give all their devices at least 5 years of support, if the 7th gen dropped now it would only be 4.
That’s not the point anymore, even an iPhone 6 with just 1gb ram would be mostly able to run newer OS like iOS 17 or 18 but the issue here is how many use this device anymore and for how dose Apple role out an update that cost millions for each device to get on… They just make this and this amount of money with older devices and at this point where they must pay more for the update then they get back from the device users in purchases or subscriptions they just have to cut major updates to keep the right numbers… And when then the money flow on a device breaks completely they even end up security support for it… No one has something from updates for devices that nobody uses anymore…

I pad 6 not and 7 yes cuz the screensize, the 6 is the last 9.7“ iPad and it’s for real a thing to Programm on different screensizes on iOS/ipadOS and with that I think it has more to do with that instead with the power of the device… The 1gb ram more is maybe a thing to but I think the screensize reduction has more impact on Apple as the 1gb ram…
@@THEcoolGAMER60 mini has nothing to do with that that it is just cheaper for apples updates when they cut a complete screensize in special when we talk about a category that has meanwhile 3 or 4 subcategory’s… That is real money when you will make good updates for those devices so they are lucky with any screensize they can rid off… The iPad mini is a completely different story, there comes just one device every couple of years and the people who bought them are everytime the exact same people, so that are 2 completely different examples and one has nothing to do with that what I am talking about…
@@THEcoolGAMER60 just to make it abit mor clear, on the mini category you have just one device you can go with, the what ever size current mini maybe the mini of the last batch… On the 10“ category you can currently go with an iPad 8 (at least in some regions), 9, 10, air 4, 5 and 6, pro 11 of the last 2-3 generations… Already in this single (!) category we have 3 different screensizes (ok 2 of them are compatible but have different resolutions so hard enough to count it as 2) when I am counting right and with the iPad 6, iPad Pro 10,5“ we already have 2 screensizes more so nearly doubled the number… That’s a lot of programming you can just cut with a simply end of major updates for just 2 devices with user numbers that don’t really makes money anymore… Again, that are 2 different worlds from the Support sight…

The big comparison back then for the iPad Pro 10.5 was the iPad Air 3 and at the time they said oh go with the iPad Pro because the chip set doesn't matter well I guess the chipset does matter because the iPad Air 3 will get years more support with the a12
I hope my XR is still good with the new iOS update because it may get slower
Can’t believe apple watch se 1st gen dropped support so quick
My iPhone SE 3rd Generation got IOS 18 yesterday I install it
does anyone know if any part of apple intelligence will be supported on earlier iphones, or will the whole AI thing just not be supported?
no support at all
My iPad Pro wont get iPadOS 18. I will use it until I need to change the battery as this iPad is a fantastic model! Probably the greatest one I have ever had, (had a few in the past).
Grrrrrrr I bought 2nd gen iPad Pro 12.9” FTW weeks ago 😔
Still using an air 3 as a high school student to take notes, i love it
Apple really needs to drop support for devices when they become too slow to run the latest version of iOS/iPadOS, not arbitrarily based on the age of the device.
1:44 that answer is yes
Not me only able to get the ios 18 update on my iPad ( Air 3) at all. As my iPhone is 7+ and a macbook pro (2015).
My iPad just lost support lol, but thank goodness my iPhone SE (2nd Gen.) didn't! THAT barely made the list of compatible devices itself!
So please tell me ipad 10th gen cannot get an update right ?
it will get the update
Yay! Finally I didn’t spend money for nothing!
that P5 bop though
iPhone 13 mini I’m getting it so exited❤❤😊🎉
Will Ipad Pro M2 4th gen will get OS 18 Update anyone would tell please? 😢
It’s a recent device. It won’t lose support for another 4 or 5 years. 😎
@@InterestingThings2024Official thanks that's like a sigh of relief 😌
Thank god I have a 15 pro max 😊 so happy for the AI
Where is ipad 9th generation Update?
Ipad 12.9 M1 can get updates ?
Yes.
@@MrCooper83my air 3 will drop support soon i think 😭😭😭😭😭
I got iPad but can’t update ? I try to update it don’t work
You can get the iPadOS 18 beta. Basically works the same as iPhone but with an iPad flavour to it.
Im on the XR and iPad 6
Apple isn’t supporting them based on specs anymore. They’re supporting them based on number of years
Iphone xs is the last iphone with 3d touch and S model
I've lived 65 years without AI. Lord willing perhaps I can live a few more years without AI. Greetings from Reynosa, Mexico.
It’s honestly surprising that the iPad 7 is getting iPadOS 18. iPadOS 17 runs like garbage on it, even after several updates.
Xs gang lets go
I’m a big fan btw
The iPhone XR has 2GB of RAM and gets the update
Lies. It has 3 GB RAM
@@ProtectusCZ every current supported iphone gets iOS 18 that shows that you just talking bs, sorry…
Here is the iPad the topic and there we have the difference between 9.7 (iPad 6) and 10.5“ (iPad 7) that’s for sure more important for an Major update as the ram…
Apple can handle small ram but what they can’t handle pretty well are different screen sizes…
@@Eddy_E. My mom still uses the 8 Plus and it runs everything smoothly on the latest update. I think the Plus has more ram than the normal 8 so that might have something to do with it though.
I was going to punch a hole through the wall if I didn’t see my device on IOS18😂
Your audio is cooked in this episode
What about tvOS and macOS, I don’t care about watchOS
i still have a 13 😢 and iphone 16 is almost here
It’s not even old, I have an 11 and not upgrading anytime soon
13 isnt that old
13 is good u can keep it till 2028
Sucks that backglas is expensive to repair
Cuz my 13 is cracking😊
my grandma with ipad 6 needs an upgrade...
i think the real reason why the 7th gen could still be supported is because apple wants to give all their devices at least 5 years of support, if the 7th gen dropped now it would only be 4.
DANG IT! I HAVE AN IPAD 6 GEN
Me too, but I also use a mini 6, so I’m not really affected.
Can I install it on my iPhone 6+?
No you can’t
@@Laranth-km2mh NOOOOOOOOOOOO
It doesn't even support anything past iOS 12 lol
@@MissionControlTet But me want ios 18
No but on your 4s…
I knew that the xs xs max and the xr would get iOS 18 they are more than capable of it iOS 17 runs smoothly on the xs max
That’s not the point anymore, even an iPhone 6 with just 1gb ram would be mostly able to run newer OS like iOS 17 or 18 but the issue here is how many use this device anymore and for how dose Apple role out an update that cost millions for each device to get on…
They just make this and this amount of money with older devices and at this point where they must pay more for the update then they get back from the device users in purchases or subscriptions they just have to cut major updates to keep the right numbers…
And when then the money flow on a device breaks completely they even end up security support for it…
No one has something from updates for devices that nobody uses anymore…
@@Eddy_E. Lol no way would the iPhone 6 keep up these days, it was already slow by the time iOS 9-10 came out
@@supersmashmaster43 just cuz it’s not well optimized for the hardware, it would be better if Apple would invest more in this but this is everytime an own calculation for any product…

Of course, it was released recently
Why would you get emotional over thinking a recent device wouldn’t be supported? It’s supported for another 4 years or so as of typing this up.
Xʀ gang!!
1 view in 0.0000001 seconds you feel off
Ipad 10😢
?
Bro thats a good ipad
I pad 6 not and 7 yes cuz the screensize, the 6 is the last 9.7“ iPad and it’s for real a thing to Programm on different screensizes on iOS/ipadOS and with that I think it has more to do with that instead with the power of the device…
The 1gb ram more is maybe a thing to but I think the screensize reduction has more impact on Apple as the 1gb ram…
your reasoning falls flat with the existance of the ipad mini
@@THEcoolGAMER60 mini has nothing to do with that that it is just cheaper for apples updates when they cut a complete screensize in special when we talk about a category that has meanwhile 3 or 4 subcategory’s…
That is real money when you will make good updates for those devices so they are lucky with any screensize they can rid off…
The iPad mini is a completely different story, there comes just one device every couple of years and the people who bought them are everytime the exact same people, so that are 2 completely different examples and one has nothing to do with that what I am talking about…
@@Eddy_E. my bad 🤕
@@THEcoolGAMER60 just to make it abit mor clear, on the mini category you have just one device you can go with, the what ever size current mini maybe the mini of the last batch…
On the 10“ category you can currently go with an iPad 8 (at least in some regions), 9, 10, air 4, 5 and 6, pro 11 of the last 2-3 generations…
Already in this single (!) category we have 3 different screensizes (ok 2 of them are compatible but have different resolutions so hard enough to count it as 2) when I am counting right and with the iPad 6, iPad Pro 10,5“ we already have 2 screensizes more so nearly doubled the number…
That’s a lot of programming you can just cut with a simply end of major updates for just 2 devices with user numbers that don’t really makes money anymore…
Again, that are 2 different worlds from the Support sight…
Its all marketing
Okay
