    The cob were solid, the Philips shined more crisp overall and to the sides, the cree seemed to shine more towards the ground

    Cree is great, but on camera the Philips look to have the better distance, which is most important at driving speeds, not a few lumen more brightness right in front of you.
    Thanks for posting, very nice video - concise, music pleasant and not loud, practical demonstrations - perfect!

    • @razam1256
      @razam1256 6 лет назад +2

      I have to agree. The phillips has way more brightness at distance even though the cree is suppose to be more powerful. BTW could you do power consumption tests on the leds?

    • @fixanddrive
      @fixanddrive  6 лет назад +2

      I'm taking a closer look now, and you are right. I somehow didn't pay attention to the distance beforehand as generally CREEs were giving a more powerful light and I thought they were a better choice. Now I'm thinking of fitting the philips as they are sitting on a shelf in the garage. I can see that even cheap COBs light further than the CREEs

    • @theRealAV8r
      @theRealAV8r 6 лет назад +1

      Noticed that about the COBs too lol, but they're noticeably dimmer than both. Let us know how te Philips' work out in practical use.

      see if there is an adjustment, I am betting the position of the LED is affecting how it bounce off the reflector.

      they flow the beam too high, you`ll blind everyone with the philips, adjust the light height from inside the car , all cars have that option

  • @MrFastFox666
    @MrFastFox666 6 лет назад +15

    Personally, I would've stuck with Philips. COB seems to work surprisingly well, and is what I'd use for 'secondary' lights, such as high-beams or fog lights. The CREE seems to focus too much light directly in front of you, whereas Philips focuses it more ahead, which gives better downroad visibility. As far as I can tell, CSP LEDs, like those Philips work the best, since they accurately mimic the shape and size of the original bulb filament. COBs and Domed LEDs don't do this very well, so light generally isn't focused as it should.

    From the video, the Phillips and cob looks clean. The cree looks too scattered with dark spots. But the Phillips would be my first choice.

    • @abeeftec

      I think it is very possible that this is the way it was installed slightly different. How is it not possible for the cree to shoot as high but looks brighter closer to the car?

  • @jschrauwen
    @jschrauwen 3 года назад +3

    Clearly, the Philips ZES has the better lighting performance over the CREE. WHY?
    In your demo pics, the ZES had a brighter (hotter) center spot and a very sharp distinguishable cut-off.
    The Cree had a weaker center spot and virtually little if any sharp cut-off line. Two key aspects that separate the average from the best.
    Philips has always been the led chipset benchmark, others try to compete with.

  • @saulperalta4113

    You did a good job with your time. Showing what a simple test and what must people would understand. durability is another issue. Wonder if your CREE are still working as normally that surface area for those 2 chips would make them have a cold soldering! cheers.

      It makes no sense because the brighter one was the cree but the phillips shot the top of the crops as far as you can see.

  • @abeeftec
    @abeeftec 5 лет назад

    Ok, so how is it possible that the Cree is brighter but does not shoot as far? The headlight aim should be the same but the Phillips shoots the top of the crops and the Cree does not but its brighter near the car. This seems like an aim issue. MAYBE because the headlights only aim one direction (unlike the halogens which shoot 360 around the bulb) but Maybe you had the bulb aimed in a slightly different location in the headlight shroud?

  • @MrBarbagae

And keeping them outside like you did makes it impossible to close the dust cover, right?

    This video shows one really huge issue i have with these "pure white" leds. See how the grass just kind of blends into a white blob in the distance. Your eyes literally cannot process this light color quickly. Driving in the country late at night you almost cant tell the difference between the road and grass. Doing 100mph and its real easy to screw up.
    IMO halogen are better. However a good halogen bulb doesn't last long. Changing bulbs every 6 months gets ridiculous. Instead i run good led bulbs and yellow tint my headlights.
