I feel your pain in the unknown, hope its not terminal on the bright side it looks like you'll be able to breathe life back to the van, good luck, cheers
Hello mate I was wondering if you know how to cure a problem with the steering wheel on a t4 it has excessive play inwas told a top bearing but can't find anything anywhere
There is a few components that can cause play in the steering. Ball joints will do that but also a failed ball joint will result in the wheel collapsing. The top ball joint can be replaced ruclips.net/video/zRaRHUhQdpM/видео.html
The things to look for are: #1 lobes pointing upwards (10:00 and 2:00), diesel pump marks close(ish) - final timing of the injection point alters these marks relative to each other, and you’ve also got the slot in the camshaft pump pulley being horizontal. Also the notch in the vibration damper pulley will point at 9:00 (rearwards). Finally the flywheel marks give you ultra fine checking to get TDC. So there’s loads of things that give clues to how close you are, but the flywheel marks are the most important.
Mate that’s awesome little write up, really helpful for those who read the comments 👌 I think also where the centre punch mark is I’m going to do what my friend done on his and with a metal paint pen I’m going to mark the centre punch mark to make it easier to locate in the future. Thanks for watching and commenting 🙏🤙🤙🤙
@@TwiggsT4 well it’s close but as you said in the video, it’s not exact because if final timing moves them. I think the pulley marks are better at confirming you are in cylinder no. 1.
Just a tip, once you get tdc set put a mark on the damper pulley to help in the future.

Thanks buddy, may take a little while till it’s back on the road, no rush tho, not like there’s many VW festivals at the moment 😂

The camshaft tdc reference is only visable once the pump pulley is removed
I was looking at the lobes on cylinder 1 and when both valves were shut, I would then look on the flywheel for the mark.

👍
Scribe a mark on pump @ tdc to save you time later on
The notch on the fuel pump pulley lines up with the mark on the pump housing

The tdc mark is very hard to find even with good eyes 🧐- you go no hope !😂
Yeah I got Harry to check he said he could see the centre punch mark
