I will accept the criticism that I have sanitized Stern a bit for this video. It's not that I wanted to censor his more offensive remarks about Magic Johnson as much as that I wanted to keep the video concise by keeping his comments focused on what exactly he found lacking in Magic's show, i.e. he's not a great talker and he doesn't have much to say. The compilation of Stern's rantings about Magic, found below, is over 4 and half hours long.

Say what you will about the overall presentation of The Magic Hour, but to put on Howard Stern with a live mic?
Balls. Huge balls.
Especially knowing Stern was talking shit. Instead of just throwing shots back at Stern he brought him on his show. I respect it.
Yeah when he introduced Stern I thought it would be some cringey impersonator and lame attempts to dunk on him. Instead the genuine article. Have to hand it to Magic for facing his critic man to man. Nowadays even the most mild criticism is dismissed as haters, racists, sexists, whatever. Stern was absolutely ruthless tearing the show up too. He wasn’t wrong, but he was ruthless.
Was just about to comment this. Say what ya want but Magic took his beating like a great sport, respect for that at least.
They were desperate at the time. The show was about to be cancelled anyway then when Howard started making fun of the show the ratings went up... They had nothing to lose so they had him on the show to see if that could save it from being cancelled.
Wasn't his idea. At all. He was helpless in every way, his only move was to quit.
I forgot how shocking Howard Stern used to be. He was the ultimate ish talker.
He should’ve gone with the “all net” for his signature talk-show-host move. In my opinion....
I liked the no look pass so he could “pass” it to the commercial break

I’m a huge fan of both of them. Why are people so surprised that Magic would dare to have Howard on as a guest? Magic always had balls. He has shown more balls than Fallon and Jay did in all years combined.
He didn't have a choice. His ratings were in the toilet and he needed to boost the average.

It’s a lesson that they keep forgetting is Howard alone is Brutal, Robin Quivers is even more brutal. But to not pay for her to come down was insulting and i’m sure they are openly glad that had a part in destroying that show. It’s like being lowered into a shark tank in NBC issued scuba gear and Stern is Aqua man

Howard has always wanted to be a late night talk show host. He has hinted at it over the years and he fully anticipated his stint on AGT would be a stepping stone to a late night gig. Unfortunately he came across as old, out of touch and disinterested. He couldn't stand when someone like Magic got a show - it burned him up to no end

Howard was jealous of Letterman and Leno, and Carson, yes, but Magic was just bad, like Chevy Chase... he was NOT jealous of Magic... he actually loved bagging on Magic's show and enjoyed it for that, and appeared on the show because he loved it...
By the time AGT rolled around Howard was in NO way looking for a late night show 😂😂 That ship had already sailed. You’re thinking of the early 90s. Also, disinterested doesn’t mean the same as uninterested. Look it up.

This was my favorite time of Howard. I would watch the Magic Hour just to listen to Howard goof on Magic for hours the next day. Magic had the best-worst show ever.
I vaguely remember that show. All I remember of it is being on vacation in the Bahamas, where they got American TV via satellite, and coming across this. Some audience members had microphones in their faces while they were singing the first few bars of the *Diff’rent Strokes* theme song as two or three of its cast members walked out onto the stage. They should have been used to the talk show circuit by then, but this would not be the worst thing to happen to Gary Coleman this year; it was the same year he got in trouble with the law.

Because if Magic was aiming for a black crowd they knew Howard's attacks wouldn't stick. PLUS Howard used to be "In Living Color" so I think they felt he was safe. I think from what I can tell Magic has always talked slow and I've never seen him use any ebonics anymore than Jordan did. It looks like it kinda skipped the 80s crowd to be honest because Prince and Michael Jackson didn't much either. I will say I don't recall any of this show and I was a teen then which is how crappy that show must have been. But I will also say what Howard is saying would be viewed as racist back then. You might get away saying that to Bryant Gumble but Magic was a basketball player...it's too tone deaf but that was Stern back then he was controversial for the sake of it.
It's amazing for everyone that has ever been cancelled recently how Howard dodged all that. I mean the guy was a sleazeball and loved being it, I recall on his old show on E! all he'd do was have porn stars on, wannabe porn stars, talk about sleeping with them, buying them boob jobs, and occasionally interview a midget or racist and how he dodged all everything I have no clue because if anyone has a sex scandal going on or slept with someone a little too young it's probably him.

Magic was pure greatness on the court. The only legitimate player that could play every position competitively. We’re talking about a 6 foot nine point guard who had a baby skyhook they called it and when he took over a game they were unbeatable I would put him one small step under Michael and equal to LeBron

According to Wikipedia it lasted 8 weeks (probably contractual obligations). I think Magic left early on (perhaps after 12 episodes) and his sidekick Tommy Davidson took over hosting for the remainder of the series.

Yes it was bad….it wasn’t Magic’s fault…probably wasn’t even his idea….blame his agent and whatever coked out producer….but no show in the history of talk shows was worse then Chevy Chase! That one still puzzles me…….it was like he lost a bet or something..like he wasn’t even trying or looked into how to interview someone….Akroyd’s realization of his buddy was even stranger…..his I.Q. is through the roof….he knew it was gonna get canceled so he went on the show and got Chevy to participate in purposely wrecking the show to get out of a contract and if he got fired he can be compensated….it worked….that’s a true friend ! Risking his own comedic genius to rescue his SNL buddy!

This seems to exist in some alternate universe. It's unbelievable - sounds like someone made it up: Howard Stern goes on a talk show - a talk show hosted by a basketball player whose everyday speech is so bad they give him a coach, as well as an interview trainer. However, on the show, he won't even be the person asking the questions of the guests - either a comedian or the audience themselves will ask questions. And they'll have top-notch singers as guests to come on the show and vacuum. WTF!?
