I got a deck for you to try 2021 standard with. All 4 Triton's, 2 lands. I appreciate you playing this game and leaving it in the video. It happens to me as well and I just shake my head in utter frustration.
Hello magic friend, great video. I have been working on a 2021 Standard Sakdos deck & I am loving Hobblefiend, Blood Aspirant, Mutual Destruction (even without flash) as my sacrifice outlets. I also use 3 The Ozolith, as stealing Yorvo, Lord of Garenbrig, Sprite Dragon, & XSerpent has so much value. I am also liking Stormfist Crusader for its Menace ability to make Tentative Connection cheaper & 4 main deck Lurrus. I also use 3 Kroxas. For lands I run: 4 Evolving Wilds, 4 Fabled Passage (as they juice up the Blood Aspirants nicely, help thin out the deck & also give Kroxa something to eat), 4 Swamp, 4 Mountain, 3 Castle Locthwain & 2 Castle Embereth.
Just the deck I was looking for. Tried to build Rakdos Sacrifice out of the previous shell, but couldn't think of what to add/remove to make the deck effective in the Standard 2021. Thanks CGB
Hey CGB I really enjoy your streams (beginning to end) and I just managed to get to diamond after a few month of play and beeing elaborated by your virtual presence... :) I picked the jeskai deck with the narset-fun - amazing! Beware of a patreon coming in :D
that was me hahah. Young toker. Have been brewing the deck for a couple weeks. Just for that sweet ass combo :) Happy i got to play it vs CGB! Nice commentary CGB!!!
matthew kuzik the white is for the nethroi removal spell. Kills ugin, kills clover, its the decks best piece of removal, by far. Play with 4 cultivates, so getting the one plains isn’t difficult. Only 1 plains and 1 triome. I can share my decklist, thats not a problem. How though? I have a screenshot of it. I guess I can write out the cards here for you. Here is my decklist that I am using now - a tad bit different from the one I used vs CGB: 1 Gilded Goose 1 Stonecoil Serpent 1 Wolfwillow haven 1 Kitesail Freebooter 1 Scavenging Ooze 1 agonizing remorse 1 Heartless Act 1 Epic Downfall 1 Easy Prey 4 Mythos of Nethroi 4 Cultivate 2 Mechagodzilla, The Weapon 1 Kaervek 1 Anguirius, Armored Killer 2 Questing Beast 1 Extinction Event 2 Clackbridge Troll 3 Vivien, Monsters Advocate 3 Massacre Wurm 1 Garrul, Cursed Huntsman 1 Ugin, Spirit Dragon 1 Great Henge 4 Castle Lochtwain 1 Plains 7 Swamps 8 Forests 3 Temple Malady 1 Indatha Triome Here is a quick deck tech- the ooze and freeboother are targets for the Viviens in order to find answers to specific scenarios. I quite like Sacrifice Lurrus mono-black. For one thing, the frickin' shuffler _finally_ gives me the mana I need. :D :D :D. And I stop caring at 2 (so it always gives me 3-4 even if I'm running 20 or less lands *cough* ) (I don't even mind if it stalls at 2, because just having the Lurrie dangling in front of the opponent means they'll hold back some kill spells just for it, so it's doing work even just sitting on the naughty-stool) So I think you're missing some beautiful cards: * Malicious butterknife. Oh, you (the opponent) want to kill my cheap creatures? By an amazing coincidence I _also_ want you to kill my creatures! By all means, let us play magic _together_. * The other cauldron, which gives life + cards. Though I have to give you mad props for figuring out the secret tech that is LoDV. * The skeletons which come back from the dead by themselves. Oh? Mono-white has a massive phat-ass pridemate? That's cute, I have four mana I wasn't doing anything with so ... (and toss in the cauldron and two more mana for a six mana block-sac-draw-gain-life combo) (Not as crazy as it sounds because you _know_ that the shuffler is going to at some point figure out you skimped on lands and say 'fuck you, I flood you with lands anyway trololololol') NB: and no, not butter bones, that's hot garbage (because while it _is_ cheaper, it can only block their phattie every second turn, and only if they lost life along the way (though having 2 + secret lamp tech would let you do it each turn I think??)). Sanitarium Skeleton. (Seriously, might be secret MVP) * If you're going to play sorceries and instants, they can cost more than 2. Just sayin'. (Specifically what I am saying is Witches -3 (thank you for playing a clan deck, insert new clan to continue), extinction odds/evens (thank you for playing _whatever_ insert more _whatever_ to continue), eat to extinction (gotta deal with pesky planes walkers somehow) etc. * A special shout out to the card which searches their eveything for all copies of a particular card and then gives them some 2/2s for _what they were holding in their hand_ (only). (Necromentia) E.g. oh, you banishing lighted my Lurrus. Okay, I'mma stop that from ever happening again. AKA 'fuck you and your little Uru too'. (You seem good at guessing at what the opponent might have, so this would be good for you ('Cavalcade, I pick you') if you can go first. * You can splash a bunch of these as one-offs and then add a single tutor, so that you effectively double how many there are in the deck. (And then maybe have more of tutor + whatever in the sideboard for best of three (AKA oh hey that one thing that wrecks you? I'm running 8 now. Have a day.)) * Eidolon + -N enchants, e.g. mire's grasp, dead weight, modi's favour. Against certain decks this is just an absolute machine-gun for chewing through all their creatures. (If you want to make mono-white cry, this is how). Of course all the Eidolon adds here is insult to injury, but the Eidolon's card draw from the machine-gun is going to tilt the opponent something chronic. Also, I hear card draw is good. (And we've gotta build the sanitation vat combo somehow) (Actually we don't, since they will likely rage-quit long before that, but hey, it's nice to have something to do when the game decides that thou shalt top deck all thine mana for the next ten turns in a row) * Piper, for all your rat creation needs (e.g. if for some ungodly reason you weren't playing with the sannie-pad skellies) For Black/Red: * Eidolon part the second, the deuce, AKA what the deuce. Rather than Claim the Firstborn, maybe Furor + a death-touch creature. It's basically Royal Assassin + Nettling Imp, (with a two-turn cool-down), and the Eidolon adds 'I can't believe it's not mana' no-mana card-draw to the combo. Also, I hear life-gain is good against mono-red. Also 1/2 creatures for one mana (see also: Sanitation Skellie) is good against red. And yes, they'll infuriate/shock/dragonfart everything on your side of the board that blocks or even looks like it's thinking about blocking to death, but _they were going to do that anyway_. * Also, if you do want to turn on the turbo-weenie mode on turn two this is a good way to do it - smack them for three (and you gain three) on turn 2 (T1 eid, T2 fury), and then four (and you gain four) on turn 3, because you added a butterknife. And if they somehow kill your 4/5 furion (spot the Riddick reference) then you draw a card, the butterknife gets bigger and you get to do it all over again a couple of turns from now. If you enjoy seeing your opponent come to a sudden, sad realisation ... just dual-wield butterknives. (It's also worth tossing in a single Shadowspear because it turns any other creature abusing the power of butter based cutlery into a pseudo-furion.) And it may be big enough to climb over the top of their mid-range creatures. The eidolon is also a great way to charge up the butterknives in the face of a wall of phat. Because yes it's a suicide attack which won't get through, but at least you gain some life out of the exercise. (Basically similar to how/why malicious butterknives are decent in combo with Silvermote Ghouls (of course we can't play with Ghoulboy in this deck, but similar principles apply) (And also Ghoulboy + Shadowspear = free Ghoul(s)) NB: in an environment where only once every ten-fifteen games do I get a griffin + Shadowspear to stay on the board long enough to attack once and make a second griffin (or replacement griffin) .... creatures that come back from the dead? That's frickin' awesome. (Which is why sannie-pad skellies are surprise contenders in the running for MVP). (To be fair sometimes it's not that they kill/bounce the griffin every turn until the heat-death of the universe, but rather sometimes they just get a ridiculous combo and swing for 'I can't believe it's not lethal' on turn 3 (the good news is now there's a whole bunch of different ways of doing this that aren't mono-red, and even mono-red has different ways of doing this, which at least forces them to make a choice for once). Or turn five draw half your deck and die. Or just conclave all the aeries, or ... (etc.) * For death touch, and for a limited time only, consider Orzhov Enforcer. Also, you get a flying token! Bonus! * Also the deck struggles against fliers in general (assuming that a flying deck will just bounce your archie-tokens), so Fetid Imp is worth including (or side-boarding). With a deck that _can't_ bounce your archie-tokens, a hilarious bluff can be to attack each turn (even fully tapped out) with the archie - _even if you don't have Call of the Death Dweller in your hand_ (or even in the deck at all - after all the black version of the witch's cottage can bring back the Lurrie almost as well - which if they have an easy answer for the archie-tokens might be the best use of CotDD) (And yes, I'm playing a version of lurrid one-ball-sack without Call of the Death Dweller, and racking up wins ... so it's doable) * Also, the main reason that piling resources like enchants and equips onto creatures doesn't work is it creates a single point of failure which has built in card disadvantage - e.g. let's play a game of kill the creature, which is a game I see you have come well prepared to play. But if the creatures and enchants come back anyway, then it's _not_ card disadvantage.... -------- To flip this around and go Lurrid mono white, I'd consider princess-prison. E.g. towers + caskets + pacifism. Lurrus + pacifism = Trollface, because even if they kill the pacifism, it's coming back next turn regardless. Of course the princesses will need glitter (sadly make-up artists (Heliod's pilgrims) cost 3 and are thus ineligible), and a prince or two to send out to do chores (e.g. maybe scry). Plus angel-summoner. And aeries. Not that we expect the aeries to actually do anything (heaven forbid), but rather to make our opponent _think_ that we're the kind of complete moron who thinks they're viable and thus underestimate us, and/or have them waste resources trying to kill the aeries when there are other things they should be worrying about. You can protect the princesses with shields (or rather, let themselves protect themselves with the shields because they are strong independent wimyn) and as a bonus you will eviscerate death touch decks because none of them seem to know how that works. (If I had a mythic rare wild-card for every time someone confidently blocked with the expectation of tricking out first strike on their death touch critter in order to 'kill' my shielded critter.... I'd actually be able to play most of the decks on your channel :D :D :D ) Hello!
Please, for god’s sake, learn the names of the cards. With that and the myriad spelling mistakes, I almost had a stroke reading what should have been a legitimately good comment.
10:03 Wouldn't a better block have been to block the vassel with the goblin and ping whichever the scorpion blocked? You would have left them with one scorpion instead of scorpion + vassel. Or am I missing something?
One of the oft-forgotten of the numerous Questing Beast abilities won me a game yesterday. Opponent played Nine Lives, but Beast damage can't be prevented. Opponent scooped when they realized they took another 4.
Been messing around with two witche's cauldron and Careless Celebrant in this shell. Running the cauldrons over the flings is grindier and gives the deck less reach, but I've found the continuous card draw from it, paired with some life gain, to be very helpful in some grindier matchups. Anyway, no priest = no crazy resource acceleration for this deck anymore. It almost seems fair now, except for claim ofc..
Did you try Slaughter-Priest of Mogis? It did great as 4-6-8/2 for 2 in my pre-companion nerf historic version. Granted that was with Priest of the Forgotten Gods and Fanatical Firebrand.
@CovertGoBlue So I made a version of this w/o companion. 4 Vessel 4 Arsonist 4 Skyclave Shade 4 Kroxa 3 Lurrus 3 Rankle // 4 Village Rites 4 Death Dweller 4 Bloodchief's Thirst 2 Claim the 1st 2 Fling // 4 Malakir Rebirth 2 Agadeem 2 Spikefield. My computer is broken so I can't test it. I was hoping you might take it for a spin with adds subtracts as you see fit. 22 lands with 8 tapped seem right? Or maybe just a critique if you can
good luck building green red dude. feels like all my games are against green red today and every one of them has been complete garbage. i was playing conclave mentor deck if it matters, but they all seemed really weak.
During the first game, towards the middle, you had a scorpion and a goblin arsonist. You blocked two scorps separately from the enemy. Why not block 1 scorp with both your cards, then hit the vessel for 1? Was it a misplay? Or were you intentionally avoiding hitting the 2nd vessel?
That's the first deck I made for 2021 event, and the one I enjoyed/played the most, it's really sweet if you don't compare it to it's "previous standard" version. A few things about it : Careless Celebrant is really noice in this deck, I played it x4 and loved it Oven is a x1 or x2 to have a repeatable sac outlet Fling is easily a x3 or x4 Without Lurrus as companion the deck is borderline garbage
Celebrant behaves similarly enough to dreadhorde/mayhem devil cause like...call. I got also that one satyr that gets +1/+1 counters on sacrifices and it's still p easy to get plenty of sacrifices, witches CAULDRON is decent too
Im using Maleficent scite with fling and dreadorde butcher, really fin deck. Pimpin the scite to equipe on the butcher sac him and basically double his ability. Unleash Fury Is also good in this combo
Is there something about MTGA I don't know about? When you or the opponent seemed to be flooded with lands, neither of you play and crack fabled passage to thin down the lands in the deck. In real life that should what you always want to do when you flood out.
good lord. that game where you were stuck on 2 lands was hard to watch. I run 30 lands in my gitrog monster historic deck and i cannot help but feel like it is intentional when I get stuck on 2 or 3 after casting an explore or 2. I dont mind losing games, but that is the worst way to lose them imo.
How the mighty hath fallen! Rack sac was my most played and most loved deck for a long time.. this is saddly just a husk of how powerful the deck was in its prime. I really think cat/oven was a poorly implemented ban considering most of the sac archetype rotates and the "slow play" reason being a total crock when you compare it to old mate mono green sitting there activating scooze every end step/attack step as well as many other durdly combos and tedious decks.
Your missing Demonic Embrace which can be huge. It give flying so you can actually attack with your creatures and is bonus fling damage and can be played from your graveyard if needed. Unleash fury is also another card even if its defensive like on a Lurrus for the life gain. Demonic embrace on a butcher with unleash fury then fling is death right there. To bad its rotating
Recently had a game 30 cards, 3 lands, in 24 land cards deck. Was able to go through half of my deck because I was playing Risen Reef + Uro + weenie elementals that I could use as cannon fodder.
maybe that means I'm a little slow, but I have always wondered why CGB is so bitter and just now it has dawned on me - it's because he plays a lot of Magic

"Quick, touch your cards. Maybe that will save you." Savage CGB.
I love how "card toucher" has turned into a low key insult :D
Yea but half way through every video CGB starts touching all of the cards. So let's not be snobs about it, we all do it.
All 4 Triton's, 2 lands. I appreciate you playing this game and leaving it in the video. It happens to me as well and I just shake my head in utter frustration.
The most frustrating. A beautiful hand and no land to play!!
Yes! The frustration was beautiful 😹 and the torture of not drawing lands ... Wow
I like how you're wearing Rakdos colors for the intro before changing back to CGB blue for the games.
That intro is just Evil CGB
Happy Birthday CGB!
Thank you!
Happy birthday CGB!

Happy Birthday, CGB! :)
Thank you!
Just the deck I was looking for. Tried to build Rakdos Sacrifice out of the previous shell, but couldn't think of what to add/remove to make the deck effective in the Standard 2021. Thanks CGB
Perfect opening hand: skill
Two lands 1/3 the way through the deck: even more skill
Cycle deck can't get another land: god mode.
was playing cycle the other day. 2 mana in my first 27 cards. shuffler op.
Many happy returns
love these 2021 videos. really helpful for new players that don't want to buy cards that'll rotate soon.
Glad you like them!
Happy birthday!!! Thank you for the great content!
Thank you!
Omg, that frikkking shuffler! No land is okay
Thx CGB, happy bday
Thank you!
Happy Birthday!

Dude! We have the same birthday! Happy birthday!
Happy birthday to you too!
ah shoot i missed the bday stream. Happy belated Birthday CGB!
Thank you!
The second game versus the card toucher was the worst - thx for letting it in ;-)
Very cool looking red & black deck mate. Quite similar to my one which I calls it the chaos deck and awesome video mate 😎🤘👍
Thank you
Your welcome mate 😎👍
Hey CGB I really enjoy your streams (beginning to end) and I just managed to get to diamond after a few month of play and beeing elaborated by your virtual presence... :) I picked the jeskai deck with the narset-fun - amazing! Beware of a patreon coming in :D
Nice work! That's really awesome!
Thumbs up for that endurance on the land screw match I would have given up keyboard punch waaay earlier
That Abzan combo off Vivien was pretty sweet.
that was me hahah. Young toker. Have been brewing the deck for a couple weeks. Just for that sweet ass combo :) Happy i got to play it vs CGB! Nice commentary CGB!!!
@@saucemasterflex hey man, what was the white part of the deck? you only played green or black for that game. You got a decklist by chance?
matthew kuzik the white is for the nethroi removal spell.
Here is my decklist that I am using now - a tad bit different from
the one I used vs CGB:
1 Gilded Goose
1 Stonecoil Serpent
1 Wolfwillow haven
1 Kitesail Freebooter
1 Scavenging Ooze
1 agonizing remorse
1 Heartless Act
1 Epic Downfall
1 Easy Prey
4 Mythos of Nethroi
4 Cultivate
2 Mechagodzilla, The Weapon
1 Kaervek
1 Anguirius, Armored Killer
2 Questing Beast
1 Extinction Event
2 Clackbridge Troll
3 Vivien, Monsters Advocate
3 Massacre Wurm
1 Garrul, Cursed Huntsman
1 Ugin, Spirit Dragon
1 Great Henge
4 Castle Lochtwain
1 Plains
7 Swamps
8 Forests
3 Temple Malady
1 Indatha Triome
Here is a quick deck tech- the ooze and freeboother are targets for the Viviens in order to find answers to specific scenarios.
The Godzillas are mid costed creatures that apply substantial pressure.
Looking to ramp into vivian and -2 on a wurmcoil the turn after, fetch troll if possiblem or Kaervec if necessary.
I thought of running red to have terror of the peak as a 5 drop
fetch from
vivian, it really makes the deck much more powerful in theory, but double red is too taxing on the mana for a deck that needs to cash triple black for wurmcoil and early green for ramp. Let me know how you find it :). Worked on it quiet a bit. Maybe cgb can give it a go as well
Going through a third of the deck and never finding a third land was just... wow.
Happy birthday, thanks for the content! I just had the same birthday, a little closer to being a grown up!
Happy birthday to you too!
Happy 40th birthday CGB!
Nooooope, wrong age.
CovertGoBlue pardon me. It must be 39 then. Or at least that’s what Danytlaw told us on his stream.
Happy birthday... 🎁🎈🎂🎉🎊
Thank you!
@10:05 , you could have taken the archfiend and still kill a scorpion or you didn't want the archfiend dead?
Fling is just the best fun card ever...since Stronghold
Have you thought about hatefull Eidolon and/or Mires grasp/Dead weight?
Check his video log, pretty sure this is where I first saw the deck myself.
Shuffler is saccing CGB big time

To flip this around and go Lurrid mono white, I'd consider princess-prison. E.g. towers + caskets + pacifism.
I'd actually be able to play most of the decks on your channel :D :D :D )
Hello!
Please, for god’s sake, learn the names of the cards. With that and the myriad spelling mistakes, I almost had a stroke reading what should have been a legitimately good comment.
Happy birthday
Thank you
the frosted tips, i cant! XDD thank you for the subtle randomness
That turn 3 two 5/5 flyers would have been so HYPE... #theshuffler
10:03 Wouldn't a better block have been to block the vassel with the goblin and ping whichever the scorpion blocked? You would have left them with one scorpion instead of scorpion + vassel. Or am I missing something?
Have a happy birthday!
Thank you!
One of the oft-forgotten of the numerous Questing Beast abilities won me a game yesterday. Opponent played Nine Lives, but Beast damage can't be prevented. Opponent scooped when they realized they took another 4.
The creature that saved midrange. Almost.
Keep the novelty flowing...
50:00 I literally did the same mistake with my "normal" Standard Sackdos deck today :D
the version of this i've been playing main decks lurrus so i can play terror of the peaks into kroxa and archfiend. so friggin fun.
Maybe with some Ogre Battledriver? :D
Happy birthday CGB. I got you a twitch prime sub. Hope you like it :p
I love it!
"Looks pretty bad but I'll keep it I guess" pretty much sums up this deck
Let me guess, blue player?
10:33, why didn't you block the vessel then use that damage to kill the scorpion, that way they'd only have scorpion.
That mana screw was epic
Although isn't the most amazing deck you can find out there you played out it with elegance. I may suggest Dreadhorde Butcher!
Dreadhorde Butcher is rotating next month. The deck here is rotation proof.
Let's see the other sac deck on youtube!
Been using Oven to bake food for Feasting Troll Kings.
Lord of the Flings
Deathtouch Arsonists are satisfying af
That's the first deck I made for 2021 event, and the one I enjoyed/played the most, it's really sweet if you don't compare it to it's "previous standard" version. A few things about it :
Careless Celebrant is really noice in this deck, I played it x4 and loved it
Oven is a x1 or x2 to have a repeatable sac outlet
Fling is easily a x3 or x4
Without Lurrus as companion the deck is borderline garbage
What about the editing from last video?
16:00 you can fling/Arsonist the Vessel and he doesnt get the 5/5
9:25 could’ve cracked passage for the 5th card in your gy to escape Kroxa
Dats what mean: cycled to the death...
Using Lurrus on kroxa great combo, I never put the to together
wouldent osorov sac be better in new rotasion
good lord. that game where you were stuck on 2 lands was hard to watch. I run 30 lands in my gitrog monster historic deck and i cannot help but feel like it is intentional when I get stuck on 2 or 3 after casting an explore or 2. I dont mind losing games, but that is the worst way to lose them imo.
what about Liliana's disciple over serrated scorpion. rinsing their hand with both kroxa and this guy on return duty could be very disruptive
Nice 2003 nu metal haircut dude.
Demonic Emrace doesn't work with lurrus. It costs 3
@@olafthemoose9413 you can play it from the graveyard by paying life. You don't need luurus for it.
@@konnan216 yes, but in this particular build, lurrus prevents you from playing embrace
I just wanna see Fiend Artisan get used ;_;
16:18 Claim the Firstborn? Pretty sure that 5/5 demon is no baby. 👹
Ty for original version.
Wanna see abzan doom foretold deck for m21(
So happy priest of the fallen gods will rotate out, fuck that card.
Day 53/750 of asking CGB to play a deck around Dream Trawler Magic Mirror and the new Teferi Draw more enchantment
I feel like there is a two land bug in best of one. It seems like I almost never draw the third land, regardless of the number of cards I see.
this happens in paper magic too, there is no bug, it's just magic as richard garfield intended
That 2-lander was hard to watch.
Please do a 21 standard Gruul deck
I believe there is a better chance for the BW version, no companion and Luminous Broodmoth, anyhow priest seems irreplaceable
Do the RG brew plz
Why no priests?
Rotation
@@olafthemoose9413 oh, well
this deck is praying for support from Zendikar
20 cards, 2 lands.
Damn.
Recently had a game 30 cards, 3 lands, in 24 land cards deck. Was able to go through half of my deck because I was playing Risen Reef + Uro + weenie elementals that I could use as cannon fodder.
CovertGoGetMeSomeFreakinLands?
maybe that means I'm a little slow, but I have always wondered why CGB is so bitter and just now it has dawned on me - it's because he plays a lot of Magic
Runs 24 lands, stuck at 2 mana forever. Sometimes the RNG just wants you to lose; I feel the pain. :(
Meanwhile runs 16 lands and floods out. love the shuffler.
After that one game I bet he plays 30 lands in the next video lol
Why do people touch cards so much? 🤔
CKC!
You are cool.
I like to steal and fling just because im a nicfe oppponent
So close
Not the momma
My version is the beast, is the poor version kkkkkkk
Pleeeeeease stop... save me from rakdofice
Ok I take it back this version really isn't as threatening
Last!
