Subscribed & hello from the U.S. I enjoyed your video and that's a nice set up you have. I'm new to boating myself and in 2 weeks, will be travelling to BC to pick up our Pro500 at Stryker's facility in Aldergrove. For our purposes, I opted for a 30hp Mercury outboard & went through a similar decision making process (i.e. what size and make.) It's interesting in that for the 30hp class - when comparing Yamaha to Mercury - there's a 70 lb. weight differential, which proved to be the deciding factor in choosing the Mercury. It weighs in at only 145 lbs. Keep posting videos - you have a knack! I took some tips away from you. Namely, I was curious about the transducer for the Garmin. Cheers from North Idaho!
Hey thanks for watching! Yes lots of things to look at when considering brands. The mercs deffenetly are lighter. I also forgot to mention in the video that yamaha was offering a 5 year warranty on select outboards bought before march 31st. That was another reason that nudged me towards the yammy. That being said if there was a 70lb weight difference in a particular size that I was considering, I would opt for the lighter motor aswell. The weight difference between the two 15hp's was around 12 lbs I think. Both great brands either way. Congrats on the Pro 500 thats a beast and a half.
@@BCMountainLifeYou're welcome! I think you've probably struck the ideal balance (weight to power) which is also my goal. Personally, I want a powerplant that's just the right size vs. giving into the temptation to overpower. Same for boat size itself. I actually had a hard time settling on the Pro500. It might be a little too much for us and more or less needs to be trailered, which in and of itself wasn't a big concern of mine. It's always a trade-off and involves a bit of projection into the future.
How do you feel about your purchase now that you've been on the water a few times?
@@SIBXCDA Pretty good actually. It's probably the largest set up that I can physically manage without any help. Would'nt be able to handle any bigger alone. Also plan on getting a trailer for it eventually so that I can tow it around fish ready but always still have the option to pack it in the bag.

You need a rectifier, or voltage regulator. Yamaha makes an oem one. Any dealer should have them or can order them for you.
Boat's flying compared to the 6 HP one. Have you ever had the canopy caught wind riding like that?
Funny you ask... one of the strap buckles broke recently on a super windy day 😂 but never any issues going full speed on a calm day.
Thinking of getting the Lx 420 I have 2015 9.9 Yamaha you think it will be big enough for the boat?
If your only using it for fishing it would be ok but I doubt it would get on plane with more then just yourself in the boat. I would say thats underpowered for a boat that big.

@@jdh8835 Sounds like a good set up. The 9.9 should troll the 380 nicely and will allow you on smaller lakes too. Probably plane 2 people?
@@BCMountainLife Yeaa mostly on the Shuswap but also thinking I can upgrade to a 20-25 hp efi in the future then it would rip pretty good I think
